Would like to take away more starts.....One star is way more than they earn. Today $447 to replace a left wheel speed sensor. National average for this service is about $200. And it's so odd....last year they changed my oil. On the way one a wheel speed sensor dies, and they charged me $118 to replace it. Last week they changed my oil, and the next day a different wheel speed sensor dies. $447 this time..... We will never, EVER use the service department or purchase another vehicle again at Cloninger Ford of Morganton. And we've bought plenty from here over the years. NO more. I will never take my business to this dealership again. I bought a key fob to replace the one that I lost for my work vehicle. I stopped by this dealership in March to have it programmed. After about 15 minutes they told me they could not program the fob and that my vehicle required a special order fob. The guy told me not to worry about it, they would order one and the next time I was in the area, I could stop by and get the right one. They handed me back the fob I brought to them and said to have a nice day. Here it is 3 months later and my boss gets an invoice for $149.80 for programming a fob. They never programmed my fob and no one ever said anything to me about a bill while I was there. So I went back to the dealership and was told that was for the guys labor. The hole 15 minutes for not being able to program. They still wanted me to pay for another fob and programming. Hell no if it wasn't for my department getting the first bill I would have not paid them a dime. This is shady business practice to me. I should have been told there would be a bill even if there was no programming. read more

I will never buy another car from Cloninger Ford of Morganton as long as Adam is GM. He is rude and has the personality of a fish! I own a Turo car rental business and have bought 7 cars from them this year plus recommended them to some friends but I bought a Kia from them and the motor went out 4 months later which I understand isn't their fault but since I am such a loyal customer, I thought they'd at least agree to help me with the $6000 bill on a $20,000 car. Instead he corrected me and said it had been 5 months since I bought the car. What kind of response is that??? I told him that's semantics and beside the point. He basically told me he didn't care if I ever bought another car from them. I like to do business with people that appreciate me giving them my hard earned money, if my business doesn't mean more than that, I will never be back. I just hate that some their amazing staff has to work for such a selfish know-it-all that is close minded and has antiquated morals. Back in North Carolina I took my work truck to only a Ford Dealer for everything. Cloninger Ford to be exact. To make sure everything was always done right and 100% no matter the cost. I come to the Midwest and my truck freezes up. It's totally full of water. After spending thousands and multiple trips to Cloninger Ford for their "multi-point inspections", I find out on the side of the road and overheated that not once did they check my antifreeze and my truck freezes up, overheats and cost me a tow and $200 more to flush and replace antifreeze which could have also cost me a head gasket. read more

Dont trust these people, they lied to me concerning more than one issue on a fusion I bought there. Sold it to me as a new car, but had been titled 6 months earlier, thus shortening the warranty for me(just found out). Also tried to change the deal after entering the finance office. Brought it back in about a week after purchase for a small crack I discovered in the black glass between the passengers doors, under warranty right.....Wrong, had to eat that one. I bought a used 2013 F250 6.7 with 108k miles on it. 4 months after purchasing, and around 4,000 miles later, the engine completely lets go. This truck left my wife and infant daughter stranded in oncoming traffic in Florida when the engine let go. Mind you this was also 9 hours from home. After multiple calls to the dealership and Ford, neither were willing to offer any assistance. This is a known Ford problem and even upon knowing this, they told me I was out of luck and there was nothing they would do to help me. I was a Ford fan before this incident, but the customer service and support is nonexistent. If there is a known mechanical failure issue with a model or specific year truck, it would make sense for a company to back their product and do the RIGHT thing by replacing the item, instead of the customer suffering and facing over $10,000 in repairs for bad production. My heros! My husband and I were traveling to Maggie Valley for vacation when our car ran over a large piece of a tire that another car had knocked in our lane. This caused the metal protector under the car to bend and start dragging. We pulled off at the next exit and saw the Ford dealer. They couldn't have been nicer. They were able to do a temporary fix until we could order a new part. We highly recommend their dealership. They have great customer service and a caring team. read more

I would give a negative mark if I could. I have been going to this dealership for ALL my service on my car for 7 years. Since changing to Cloninger my points don't get added to my rewards card, and I was on the market to purchase a new truck. I had spoken to the salesman several times was told he would send me email with info I never received. I was told to come by on a Friday and when I got there he handed me off to another salesman that had none of my info. I ended up leaving without my new truck and now have search for new service department. DO NOT GO HERE if you want to be helped with respect and care. read more

I had no problems buying my truck(I see now I just got lucky) almost a year ago and recommended my fiancé to buy her car from them thinking we could trust them. They found a car she liked but after she was approved and signed everything said that that car had too many problems(which I think was a lie because they had messed up the list price) and that they couldn't sell it to her. They promised to make it right and We went over a few options and they said one of their employees just traded in a car that fits what's she's looking for and is very reliable...she hadn't even made the first payment on it and she has to beat on her battery to even get it to start, all the sensors started malfunctioning, it has stalled and stopped working TWICE WHILE DRIVING!!!!(DANGEROUS). We didn't deserve this treatment and knowing they knew about its issues(was an employees car) it just shows how little they care about their reputation. When you take your car for service, you expect it to be there when you pick it up. We took our car in on Wednesday, never received a call Wednesday to let us know the verdict. We called them to be told nothing was wrong but they were correcting the recalls and would be ready the next day. Still no call the next day. We call them and they say it's ready to be picked up. When we get there on Saturday morning at 9:20am, we are informed our car has been towed to Spruce Pine to be sold. Wayne (service Dept manager) quickly gives us the run around that the towing company was at fault for picking up the wrong car. First off, they knew on Friday our car left the dealership on accident but didn't try to get it back until we showed up on Saturday. I speak with the JD (General Manager) and we go back to Wayne. Once again, he blames the wrecker company. He says "there were 2 silver escapes sitting there so I pointed and said the one with keys in it. We put all keys in the vehicles in the morning and take them out at night. That's how we keep up with them and don't lose them." I immediately respond with "that seems like an awful plan to begin with because anyone can take any vehicle." I assume both Escapes had keys in them? JD then calls the Spruce Pine Ford dealership and asked them to tow my car to Marion and have it there no later than 1:30pm. We were told we would receive a call when our car was on the way. JD then says "at least it's not far away, they have been towed out of state before." So I assume this has happened multiple times to customers? By 12:20pm, we haven't heard from anyone. I call Cloninger and speak to JD. He informs me he isn't sure and will call me right back. 10 minutes later he calls and said the wrecker left Spruce Pine 30 minutes ago so should be there anytime. My car doesn't arrive until after 1pm. He wrecker driver kept apologizing because he is the one who picked up our car from Morganton. He said Wayne pointed so he grabbed it and left. He also let us know that he was never told by the Spruce Pine GM to bring it to Marion so that's why it took so long - he took it to Cloninger first. I call JD back to let him know that we received the car and share my final thoughts on the whole situation (how poor it was all handled. Wayne made a huge mistake. The wrecker company isn't at fault. Etc). He doesn't answer so I leave it all on his voicemail. He calls back to immediately tell me and I quote "I'm actually not going to take responsibility for anything that happened. It's all the wrecker company's fault. I told them Marion so they should have brought it there." Yes JD, you told them Marion but it should have never left your lot to begin with! He lets me know that Wayne didn't make a mistake in just pointing at my car "because that's how we all do it. So I will not take responsibility for any of this misfortune." All of this was absolutely uncalled for and the worse customer service I've ever experienced in my life!! read more
