I find it disappointing or even bordering on unethical the policy of the Hickory Used Car…read moreSuperstore dealership (associated with Everitt) on deposits placed to hold a car with intention to buy. About a month ago my friend made an offer on a 2020 Subaru that had already been on the lot for a month. An amount was agreed upon, dependent on the trade-in offer for her car. To hold the car, they requested and she provided a $100 deposit. One day later, she presented her car for assessment/offer. A deal was struck, including her trade in. The finance department tried but failed to obtain financing for her- this was the same day she brought in her trade, and 1 day after placing the deposit. The only reason she did not buy the car was failure to obtain financing. Yet in-spite of this reason and the brevity of the hold, this dealership chose to keep her deposit. They have every right to do so, and I have every right to warn potential customers what kind of management you will be dealing with. That car remains for sale on their lot today. I can't help but wonder how many offers on the car they received but had to turn down during the 24 hours that they held the car. Likely zero. Had she obtained financing but then backed out, that would be a different thing. Our sales rep Nick was fantastic to deal with and has no ability to change this seedy policy. One star given due to our sales rep, and one star for the efforts of the finance department. Zero stars for management and for common sense. There are plenty of alternatives for finding a used car- I recommend taking them.

Recently purchased a new truck from Carmax. After searching dealers and online searches I found…read morewhat I wanted at a fair market price. I had no trade in. From my research they have the best out the door price with a 299.99 Doc fee. I had found these fees to be in excess of 800.00. So you have to know what to add for your out the door price at any dealer. In the first week I found some mechanical issues that I wanted addressed. The service department was first rate in communications and addressing my major issues at no charge. I would have given 5 stars but for one practice I disagree with and am having to handle myself. If a remote (key fob) was lost by the previous owner it becomes your loss. They will provide one key fob and one extra key. All new cars come standard with two fobs and in the case of the truck it is the only way to use remote start. It will most likely cost in the range of 200.00 to get a remote for my wife. This practice puzzles me because they addressed much larger problems with a smile. Ask before you sign the papers how many key fobs the vehicle has because it may have only one. I hope they change this practice, sometimes it's the small things that could easily be addressed that bother you. I would buy another Car at Carmax in Hickory.

I was selling my car that was registered and titled in my trust, and had ALL of the legally required documents per NC statute and required by NCDMV. They declined to by it as they said I needed to show them the entire trust. Funny, Hickory Toyota had no problem buying my car and changing the title using the same exact documents I presented to Carmax. Do not go to Carmax, go to Mike Johnson's Hickory Toyota (a Carmax participant) first and save yourself time and frustration. They offer the same if not better price for your vehicle.

First day driving off the lot, check engine light popped on and then started to flicker like crazy…read more The CEL light had been "shorted" out somehow causing a check engine code for that circuit and a po420. Next day turbo code comes on, po299 turbo under boost. I take it back to them under there 30 days 1000 mile warranty. Did not like the customer relations guy at Tech 3-there repair shop. The lady upfront at tech 3 was very professional and well liked. After being lied to from the customer relations guy at Tech 3-he said turbo wasn't working because engine was 2 quarts low-what a lie....turbo is fed oil from oil filter, secondly the car can't tell its 2 quarts low on oil, only that its really low on oil. Needless to say, a week and half later they bring the car to the dealership with the same check engine light for turbo boost low, and my bluetooth system is no longer functioning properly since they took car for the week and half. During the time in the shop, they said they replaced the turbo and supposedly a pcm. During pickup at week and half, the turbo was not new, and salesman stated they put a used $500 turbo on......there $500 on amazon new with 2 year warranty. So to sum this after two weeks of buying a car, they've made bluetooth not work properly, didnt fix turbo issue, very suspicious of the CEL being shorted out during first 3 days of having car-per my scanner, being lied to constantly by either corporate office finance manager or guys at tech 3 shop, and last but not least, they have no loaner cars for when your cars in there suspicious shop. I just like others expect truthfullness, and for them not to be shady.

The car we bought was spotless and detailed very nicely. The showroom and parking lot is clean and inviting. Lots of really nice cars in there. The day we visited they had the grand opening of the diecast store inside. That place is cool. Many, many great diecast vehicles and other machines. It's a neat tie-in that is logical for the car dealer. Why not five stars? Because though we were assured that the car had been looked at closely and driven on the highway, we noticed a sound while driving it home. That didn't show up during the round the block test drive. Perhaps if that test drive had turned left we would have noticed. There was a small issue with some of the fender liner on the front passenger wheel-well that would only touch the tire when high-speed air forced it back onto the tire or during a heavy left turn. I've fixed the issue, and I'm grateful that it wasn't major because I had already bought the car as-is. It's a reminder that we need to be hyper-detailed when looking at/driving cars, either in-person or remotely.

The sales person was helpful at that point. I requested an inspection and the salesperson suggested we come up with an agreed price first. I was ok with this. We talked over the phone and I offered 32500 for a vehicle listed at 33500 which is more than fair. The sales person said "why that amount" or something to that effect and I responded and said "because thats what I want to pay right now". He said "well I'm sure you'd want to pay 20k" and laughed. Then he claimed I owed sales tax even though I told him I live in a tax free state. We went back and forth over text and I told this person it was rude. I asked for the manager. He called me and tried to make it right. He was overall very nice but something stuck out to me. I asked for a best price and he sent me the exact price on the site with a dealer fee. No discount whatsoever and backed it up with the work they did to the truck prior to the sale and the fact that they are a "non negotiable dealership". Thats very strange to me. They arent Carmax nor do they have have it listed on their site about this. I still wanted the truck but this whole experience sat with me and im not spending a dime of my money towards a dealership who employs rude people as the manager said "hes young and hes said things before" and doesnt want to budge at all on their price after a fair offer was made. I thought others may want to read about my experience when ready to spend cash and buy a vehicle at almost the listed price.
