But having read the reviews of those who *did* finally get booked, and viewing his high-quality photo gallery-- I was willing to deal with a little slow service. But after 5 emails, and 6 phone calls over the course of 5.5 months (since Sept. 2014), we just gave up. I'm inclined to think that this dude JD has greedily chosen to ignore us because we openly stated that our event would not occur until May 2015. So I hope his unwise choice of instant profit-gratification over the numerous poor reviews he receives in return-- is worth it to his pathetic business and poor customer service. Regardless of his awesome picture samples, the affordable rates, and a few happy customers-- too many customers (and even non-customers like me) would not work with this company. I'd rather pay more for reliable service, open communication, and a quick return on my photo copies.

It was the 3rd Annual Leap, but it was also the inaugural run through Tustin's famed Blimp Hangers!…read more Documented as the largest, unsupported wooden structures in the world--each 18 stories high, with a length of over three football fields--the Tustin Hangers made for an impressive and unequivocally unique 5K run this morning at the Tustin Legacy. Over the years, I must've driven by these magestic twins at least 100 times, never exactly knowing why they were built or how they were used, and certainly never believing I would ever set foot inside them, not to mention having the chance to run through them. But today, I was in awe! Respectfully, a "short" history lesson: Originally commissioned by Congress for construction in 1942, they were to house six Goodyear airship blimps necessitated to conduct anti-submarine patrols off the Southern California coast during World War II. So there you go. The race, then--everyone contributing to the surging sea of luck-o'-the-Irish green--couldn't help being amazingly fun! It had no choice! I can't tell you how much I absolutely love rising before the sun stretches over the horizon, lacing-up my sneakers, and grabbing a quick cup of coffee and a banana while heading out my front door toward another exciting running event! The air, crisp and refreshing; the people, excited and smiling. And after a great workout, running alongside others who've also arrived in the name of charity (proceeds benefitting the Tustin Community Foundation and the Tustin Chamber of Commerce), the very cool "Terry O'Tustin" finisher medals--shining amidst the brilliance of the morning--congratulated and applauded all your effort! This 5K, Tustin, was golden! Chip-timed: 32:26! =]

I'd like to have known that I'd be running on gravel part of the time, and not all paved area.... gravel + me = no no. I saw people that had the Groupon having problems picking up their packets, and there being chaos there. I didn't do the Groupon (shame on me), so I didn't have those issues. The organizers should do corral starts, or whatever the proper name is (like they do for the Knott's run). Too many people with buggies and dogs up front.. so if you're a runner, and in the middle, you need to navigate around people... who weren't really moving.... yeeeah... All in all, I'll be back next year. Tustin is my hometown, so will definitely support :)

Lucky for me, Dolce Entertainment was the polar opposite of that. Michelle Gregory, our wedding coordinator and the owner of the Jones Victorian Estate, works with Dolce a lot for her events. Gotta love referrals. So much easier than doing all the legwork yourself. Michelle gave Dolce all my contact info, and Lisa Muir at Dolce emailed me the paperwork a few months before our event. I was a real slacker when it came to getting back to her, but Lisa was very patient. She'd just email me occasionally to check in and ask if I had any questions for her. The planning guide she uses covers all the basics, including: -What genres of music you'd like played. -Which songs you want to use for all the special dances. -Names of all the parents and wedding party members for the introductions. -Which traditions you do and don't want to include in your reception, such as bouquet toss, garter toss, special dances, etc. -Special song requests and dedications. -And, most important of all if you ask me, the songs you absolutely DON'T want played under any circumstances. Lisa also includes a list of their most-requested songs to help give you ideas. (Since a lot of the popular stuff is pretty Top 40-focused, most of it wasn't really our style. But hey, if nothing else it can help you come up with the list of stuff you don't want played.) I finally got the completed planning guide back to Lisa after a couple months, and she didn't mind at all when I asked later on about requesting specific songs for the cake toss, cake cutting and last dance. My husband also spoke to Lisa over the phone just to go over a few things about our music preferences, make sure they had music for the hora, etc. I'm sure we could've scheduled an in-person meeting if we'd wanted to, but we never felt the need. Jon (Lisa's husband, I think) is the DJ part of Dolce Entertainment, and he was exactly what I was looking for in a DJ. He looked a little like a member of the Secret Service in his dark-suit, dark-glasses combo, but that was fine by me. Jon was very friendly and professional and did a great job of playing the type of music we liked throughout our event, including our specific song requests. He never tried to sneak in any country songs or silly theme dances, both of which we'd banned entirely from our playlist. And you know it's gotta be soooo tempting as a wedding DJ to take over and play what you want. All in all, if you're looking for a DJ who gets it and won't try to hijack your event and play obnoxious music you don't like, Dolce Entertainment is definitely worth a look.

The connection process was quite simple, as we filled out electronic forms about us and about our wedding day plans. We sent them over and then met Jon at a Starbucks about a month before our day. Our wedding planner was lagging in getting back to us so we were very thankful for Jon because he essentially set the timeline for our entire wedding ceremony and reception in that initial meeting. He has set playlists if you are not very particular about your music choices, as well as the ability to customize playlists if you know exactly what you want. He helped steer us in the right direction for appropriate playlists for before the ceremony, during the cocktail hour and during the dinner hour. He was also brilliant in adding in some fun extras to keep the guests entertained throughout the night. I'll save the details for him so as not to spoil them! With approximately 15 years (I believe that's what he told us), he definitely knows how to run the party. He is the timekeeper of the flow of the party and he has great instinct with knowing when to play certain types of music to ensure everyone keeps moving and enjoying themselves throughout the night. Our guests are still raving about what a fun party it was and how awesome the dance party was all night. He even stayed later than planned when we decided to extend the party for a little while longer. sidenote: I found out later that the power had gone out during the ceremony (we were married in a backyard at a private residence) but Jon had backup speakers and system in place and nobody ever knew, except for him and the wedding planner. This is also a kudos to him as this was the first wedding at this location, with multiple levels and he did great with the sound system reaching everyone. He definitely knows his business!

After speaking and conversing by e-mail with Karla and Ryan,I was blown away by the attentiveness and professionalism that they displayed. Their prices were also amazing. I was able to not only get a DJ but also add some fun to my wedding with a photobooth. The So Cal Ragnar Relay was a really great race experience, driving around in a van with 5 other…read morepeople running from spot to spot against other teams was a lot of fun. Interacting with other teams at the exchange points, having random teams drive by while you're running or being on the side of the road cheering you on gave you a real boost during some of those long up hill runs. Even though it's a pricey race (around $1200+ for a team of 12 just for registration) the road trip running experience was worth it. They also have a "Volunteer" requirement. You have to have 3 people volunteer a certain amount of hours with Ragnar (unless everyone on the teams lives 100 miles from the start line of the race) if you can't provide any volunteers there's an extra charge around $300 for "volunteer fees". For that just put an address that's further away when your teammates register to avoid that extra charge, they don't check to see if people actually live at the address they listed. I'll probably do the Las Vegas relay this fall because it was that much fun.
