My friend Rachelle O. had done a full session at DSP and also highly recommended her. Spring/Summer 2021 is the time for fresh new photos! I had a photoshoot lined up with Mariah Ann Photography and Veronica was immediately the first one I thought of to take care of my hair and makeup. It was simple to book with her via this Yelp business page, do a phone consult and retainer payment via Venmo (remainder paid when services rendered). Unfortunately, the late May shoot had to be rescheduled last minute [photographer] and Veronica gracefully was able to accommodate the new early June date and time, appointment was in the afternoon the day of my shoot. Veronica was very responsive with any communication (Yelp, IG, phone/text), which I appreciate. My portraits shoot was going to be outdoors (Old Sacramento) in the late afternoon/early evening so the hair and makeup had to be ready to withstand any wind/breeze and heat/sun. I showed her a photo of the floral cold-shoulder maxi dress I was planning on wearing to get an idea of the color scheme (to match makeup palettes) and what hairstyle would work best. First was the hair -- we went for beachy waves rather than full curls, and pinned twists in the back, sort of half-up instead of a total updo, no braids this time. Set with hairspray after letting that settle a bit, I loved the soft, romantic, flowy look she achieved! I let down the pins but next-day the soft waves still look great. Next stage was the makeup, also such an amazing job! Smoky eye, winged liner, bottom waterline liner, thicker eyebrows, false eyelashes, concealer, foundation, contouring, blush, a berry/pink matte lipcolor with some moisturizing color on top, and a rose-scented setting spray to lock it all in! It was such a "wow" transformation/makeover, dramatic but all for better effect in photos. We even stepped outside to make sure it was all looking great (color matching, etc.). I love how it all turned out, and can't wait for the photoshoot images to come back for the final look. Veronica was so sweet, I'm so happy I decided to work with her for this occasion. Unfortunately, I simply did not have the time to do this as I was leaving to attend my nephews wedding in Tuscany, and then hosting relatives from all over the world coming for my son's wedding. We emailed back & forth about the price, date & time of the wedding, location of my hotel etc. I also emailed her photos of myself. We then set up a date & time for us to chat on the phone. She asked what hairstyle I wanted, and I said, " I want an up do chignon that is classy, but I have baby fine hair." Victoria told me to go on Amazon and purchase "ponytail hair extensions". I was so pleased because the hair extensions were the same color as my hair! The day of the event, I was nervous in my hotel room. But Victoria was on time and quickly put me at ease. Also, I've never had airbrushing before and I really like how it covered and smoothed out my skin without feeling like the makeup was caked on giving a flawless, natural-looking appearance! I raised my concerns with the stylist immediately after the appointment and explained that I did not like the hairstyle. Rather than attempting to make adjustments, I was told that it could not be fixed because I am Asian and have thick hair. I found this response dismissive and unprofessional, particularly because I was asking for my concerns to be addressed. Although my appointment was scheduled for one hour, the service was completed in approximately 37 minutes. The stylist also mentioned that she needed to leave, which made me feel rushed. After I expressed my dissatisfaction, no effort was made to correct or improve the hairstyle. I understand that different hair types may require different techniques, but I expected clear communication and a reasonable effort to achieve the requested style. Instead, I left feeling rushed and dismissed. The final hairstyle was not what I requested, and the overall experience did not meet my expectations. Based on this experience, I would not return.
