I had two 2019 photo sessions with David Suh Photography in Sacramento (one portrait, one professional headshot) and although I did my own hair and makeup for those shoots, I knew that typically for his client's services, professional makeup and hair are done by master artist Veronica Marshall (@veronica.marshall.dvbeauty) -- and the results of those are stunning. My friend Rachelle O. had done a full session at DSP and also highly recommended her. Spring/Summer 2021 is the time for fresh new photos! I had a photoshoot lined up with Mariah Ann Photography and Veronica was immediately the first one I thought of to take care of my hair and makeup. It was simple to book with her via this Yelp business page, do a phone consult and retainer payment via Venmo (remainder paid when services rendered). Unfortunately, the late May shoot had to be rescheduled last minute [photographer] and Veronica gracefully was able to accommodate the new early June date and time, appointment was in the afternoon the day of my shoot. Veronica was very responsive with any communication (Yelp, IG, phone/text), which I appreciate. My portraits shoot was going to be outdoors (Old Sacramento) in the late afternoon/early evening so the hair and makeup had to be ready to withstand any wind/breeze and heat/sun. I showed her a photo of the floral cold-shoulder maxi dress I was planning on wearing to get an idea of the color scheme (to match makeup palettes) and what hairstyle would work best. First was the hair -- we went for beachy waves rather than full curls, and pinned twists in the back, sort of half-up instead of a total updo, no braids this time. Set with hairspray after letting that settle a bit, I loved the soft, romantic, flowy look she achieved! I let down the pins but next-day the soft waves still look great. Next stage was the makeup, also such an amazing job! Smoky eye, winged liner, bottom waterline liner, thicker eyebrows, false eyelashes, concealer, foundation, contouring, blush, a berry/pink matte lipcolor with some moisturizing color on top, and a rose-scented setting spray to lock it all in! It was such a "wow" transformation/makeover, dramatic but all for better effect in photos. We even stepped outside to make sure it was all looking great (color matching, etc.). I love how it all turned out, and can't wait for the photoshoot images to come back for the final look. Veronica was so sweet, I'm so happy I decided to work with her for this occasion. I had the pleasure of meeting Veronica about 2 months ago when it came to finding the perfect hair and make up artist for my wedding. I found her through yelp and decided to give her a try for my engagement shoot before making any decisions. My trial took approximately 4 hours as we played around with different styles and looks to achieve exactly what I wanted. I was shocked at how patient, humble and professional Veronica was! I'm very particular about my makeup, and have had negative experiences in the past specifically with "mall" make overs, so I'm hesitant to let anyone do my makeup. When I had a photoshoot scheduled with photographer David Suh, I opted to do my own makeup. Veronica often works with David for hair and makeup. I showed up with makeup on but needed my hair done. Thankfully the hair stylist is also the makeup artist and she had all her supplies! Veronica ended up fixing my streaky foundation that I applied with a brush, added more blush and contour for better photo effect, applied the lips and brows, and set my makeup. It looked amazing! I'd have total confidence in allowing her to do my full makeup in the future. As for the hair, I loved that too. She is skilled at both hair and makeup! She is also very pleasant to work with with a great attitude. I found Veronica by looking for a professional makeup artist to help me with my engagement photos. She responded the same day that I sent her a request. Because of the time crunch, she was already booked for the day I requested but did reach out to other artists to see if they had availability. Working with Veronica was really easy. She came to my apartment to do a trial run of my wedding day hair. We tried a couple different styles until I was satisfied with it. She seemed relatively professional and did a good job on our hair and makeup. It did take a few trials to get what we really wanted our hair to look like, but in the end the bride was happy. I'm giving Veronica 2 stars because she did a good job on my daughter's makeup. However, based on the way my daughter's hair turned out I'm not sure she's a licensed hair stylist. We sent her pictures before the day to ensure she could do the style and be prepared. It wasn't a difficult style. She used way too much hairspray and my daughter's hair was basically a glob. I brushed it out after she left and re-curled it. She was very slow and didn't finish on time. She was not worth the money at all. Very disappointing. read more
