I wish I was able to give a better rating because the wall unit is beautiful but the workmanship on the finished project is subpar at best. They left huge gaps between the unit and the wall. Installed the crown molding upside down. Getting them to come back to fix the problem was like pulling teeth. It has been three months and still no resolution. Tried numerous times to contact the owner via phone text and email again with no response stay away from this company. There are plenty out here in Long Island. That will do a much better job. I made an appointment to have an estimate given on two wall units, but they would both by used for storage, as I am a sewer and have lots of sewing "things" that I want to keep hidden when I have company. Jeanette came over and put together a digital display of exactly what I was looking for in order to fill the two wall areas. She understood that I wanted something that looked nice, would give me lots of storage area and yet wouldn't destroy the walls themselves. It was amazing to see an exact digital replica of what I envisioned. She showed me samples of the wood used and color finishes too. I was very happy with the estimate (extremely affordable, even for someone who is retired with a small pension). Jeanette was so sweet, yet knowledgeable, she kept me informed every step of the way. I received notice that my units were ready to be installed, they set a date for installation, and I couldn't be more excited. Victor and Dan showed up on installation day, and they couldn't have been any nicer and they were both so professional. They worked quietly to get all of the pieces into the house and then Victor looked at a piece of paper brought every piece together like a giant puzzle with just a paper layout. I was so impressed. While Victor was installing the larger unit, Dan was at work cutting pieces for the second unit and the facia for both units and once Victor finished the installation, Dan went through each shelf and cleaned it as well as the outside of the unit. Quite frankly, I expected them to be here for many hours, but they were done in less than five hours. They cleaned the work area so well, there was no residual dust left behind. Not only are my two new units exactly what I wanted, they are even better, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THEM. Angelina, the designer, was great! She spent at least an hour on our consult and even got us in touch with the manager for some additional discounts. The time following, up until the install she checked in and even made additional suggestions that really made most use of our kids' small closets. Jack our installer did both closets alone in 3 hours. He even cleaned up/neatly left our tearouts for easy disposal. Honestly, the closets turned out better than I expected. The worst worst company don't even bother trying to do anything with them. They got my measurements all wrong and I've had to wait months for them to come and do the install again which they were supposed to come and do last week for the second time , and instead of contacting me to tell me that they're not coming, I just don't hear back from them. They also wanted me to pay an extra charge for the appointment where they came, and that all the measurements were done wrong, because the company has no sense of communication with each other. My experience with Robin Wiley from Closets By Design was great. She was responsive and kept within my price point. The product was delivered and installed on time. Chris did a nice, clean installation. I love the final product. (I replaced my bedroom furniture with a wall of built in shelving and drawers). BUT. BUT there is another measure of a company and that is customer service. I did not immediately notice that my drawers are not all aligned the same. It was about a week after install that I noticed it. Minor issue but this was NOT an Ikea purchase. I spent well over $4000 for a bedroom unit that is opposite my bed and stare at. I notified Robin of the issue on December 16, 2025. Robin is very responsive but she doesn't seem to have any influence on the scheduling of repairs. After 2 or 3 emails, it is now February 7, 2026 and I still have not heard from anyone or been scheduled for correction. I am happy with the product but the lack of resolution after almost 2 months will make me think twice before using Closet By Design again. read more

The designer was so nice that I chose them above California Closets. Pricing was very competitive. The customer care is terrible. I had my closets installed in April and was not installed correctly, also scratched and dents. The installer was sloppy and ruined our hardwood floors. They came back in July and didn't have the correct order parts and here we are now in November and they will not schedule me till they have another order in my area. Would rather go with anyone else but them in the future. And I have a lot of closets and a huge garage to do. They are the absolute worst. Stay away!!! read more

Stay away from Closets by design in Bohemia. Thecmost unprofessional company ever to work with first and foremost they do not make anything custom . All measurements are off. They try to use fillers on all their closet designs so you don't see all the imperfections. Closets and shelves are installed damaged and warped Marlene and Eddie are dishonest and refuse to fix anything unless you give them more money, I specifically instructed the designer five times that I did not want my clothes hanging over outside of the closet cabinet yet my clothes hang 10 inches outside of the cabinet . My custom closet looks like a clothing rack at lMarshall's . I explained this to Marlene over and over again and though it was their problem to fix their mess but they would not comply and fix it. They wanted another $5800 to tear down the one side of the closet and redo it . not only did they want to charge me for the closet but they wanted to make an additional profit on me. Very bad customer experience with Closets by Design, I do not recommend working with them. The sales representative Allison Wright visited me very quick, me spent 4 hours designing the closet, measuring and closing the deal. We signed an agreement on Monday June 2nd and my installation date was June 26th. It seems my credit card was wrong and it did not go thru. When I called on Monday June 9th, they said the credit card did not work and they have tried to reach me so they went ahead and voided the contract. They then pushed the date to August, then September and finally Marlene Digirolamo, her manager, said "we are not the right company for you". I ended up no closets and lost 2 weeks of time. read more

The quality is worse than ikea and it is overpriced for the quality. The drawers and moldings did not line up. I had to ask them to fix it 3 times and still the drawers are crooked. For an 11K closet system the drawers should opening and closing flawlessly! Massive waste of money. Biggest regret. Although it's not my usual practice to leave negative feedback, my recent encounter compels me to express my profound dissatisfaction with both the quality of the work and the service provided by (CLOSET BY DESIGN). It's entirely unacceptable for any customer to receive work of such subpar quality, especially when considering the high standards your company should uphold. During the installation process, I noticed that several cabinets were missing back panels. I communicated with the installation guy and requested a pause in the work. Their office called me and directed me not to engage with the installer and to let the work continue. Under these circumstances, how can I be expected to allow the job to proceed when I'm clearly dissatisfied with the work?! Then, I received another call from Heather, who informed me that the company would be willing to add back panel at an additional cost of $970! - Back panels were not discussed in the consultation. - Cabinets always have a back panel - I was surprised that there was no back panel to cabinets. As a result, there's now an open space between the shelves and the wall. To be clear, I never requested a closet door or a full cabinet FREE of charge. All I asked for was a properly completed cabinet with its necessary panel. Ultimately, this job remains incomplete in the right way, and I'll need to hire another company to rectify the cabinets. As expected, the company's response was a simple "I'm sorry that you were unhappy."... I'm trying this company for the first time, and without a doubt, it will also be my last. I'm determined to post this issue on social media and inform my family and friends, urging them not to consider this company for future services. read more

I worked with Lori to design my closet and schedule the work. She asked how I used the closet and what types of things I kept in it so that the hanging portions and shelves suited my needs. She was always available if I had a question, which she either answered herself or was able to find the answer quickly from the installers. I was happy to be able to schedule on the one available day in December, which was New Year's Eve. The installer was on time, showed me how to adjust the shelves and hanging bars, and cleaned everything up when he was done, including vacuuming. I also loved the option to finance with 0% interest, which was one of the factors in making my decision to choose this company. read more

We needed some closets build in our garage so we hired someone from Closet by design company. Someone came out to our house to take the measurements and post gave us a date on July 18, 2024. It was supposed to be two day job. It took over 6 weeks and we are still not done. Today is August 26th and I am being told they will give another date to come finish up the job, which is frustrating because it feels like i am working around their schedule. They charged my CC the full balance even though the job is not done. The guy name is Eddie, he charged me full payment without finishing up the job. He is not reasonable to talk. He is rude, and had no manners or care to please the customers. Every time I brought up any issue with closets, he would refer it back to the contract, the same contract also says, "last payment upon job completion". I would not recommend Closet by design to anyone. I just want my money back if they are not planning to finish up the job. There are few things missing. The left side of my closet are held by one tiny little anchor. It is not secured properly. I have two little kids in the house and it doesn't feel safe. There is a drawer that is sitting still on the floor and missing few hinges. And door handles are not on. I have been using closets without door handles. its been 6 weeks now. read more

As a smart consumer, like yourself, I was looking for different quotes to create the walk in closet of my dreams! I decided to try out Closets by Design - what a waste of time. Their prices are so inflated that they acted as though it was a favor to match the price of a competitor - Guess you don't want my money at a fair price?! Hence, you can find 40% off coupons on the web (sound too good to be true ...well because it is!), they mark up the prices so high so it will look like you are saving big with this coupon -get this- even with "40%" off; it still couldn't match to the competitor pricing. How much do you need to offer off via a coupon to make the prices fair - 70%? Want an example, soft closed drawers $35 per drawer, competitor $25. One glass front drawer : $175.. It get's better though, so if you think you finally come to agreeing on a price, well think again! Not only was I asked to sign off on a contract/ put down a deposit on the spot - BUT you don't get all the details during this period. I stupidly put down a deposit (which you have roughly 4 days to opt to void to decide if you would like to proceed), and on the 4th day - I was finally provided the additional details and was still expected to make a decision. Ask me how the competitor handles a sale - provides you with a price and no deadline for your decision to be made. Why you wonder? That's easy - they aren't scared of you shopping around because they didn't rip you off. Now this is my FAVORITE PART (get the popcorn ready for this drama!) on why you should beware, if you made it this far in my review and are still considering this company - DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME - GO ELSEWHERE- About a week into confirming and working on pricing, in which from day one - I have stated from the start that I would like a fake marble countertop - well thank you Sue (Manger) for letting me know on the day that we are suppose to sign off on the contract that, SURPRISE, there is now an additional $600 fee for the countertop. This is a preliminary review. We have an install date starting Monday, November 16th. We had the pleasure of meeting with Daniel, who took measurements twice and was very meticulous. We also were requested to meet at their location in Deer Park in addition to the two meetings at the job site. Our last meeting was on October 23rd. We did receive a message on November 11th, just six days before installation: "We no longer provide mirrors and we didn't charge you for it." This was way after we gave a deposit and finalized everything. Now they want an additional $168 to fill the original space where the mirror was supposed to go by installing a "mirror ready" door. Then we will have to pay for a separate mirror and install it afterwards. We found this very inconvenient due to the short notice in proximity to install. We are really hoping the project goes smoothly and contradicts some of the reviews here on Yelp. We will be back on here after to give a detailed report with images and an updated rating. ********UPDATE******** 8AM received a call saying the install needed to be postponed since some items were incomplete due to a machine issue. Rescheduled for tomorrow. *******UPDATE******** Closets look good and no problems as of yet. Will come back on in a few months to comment on how they are holding up. read more

My wife and I had a great experience with this company. We redid our layout and were able to build out a pantry after changing a few walls around. We used Closets by Design to help build all the shelves, drawers, and accessories for the pantry. This was numerous years ago ... back in 2012. The pantry is still heavily used, and the drawers and shelves are just as good as they were as day one. The installers came on time, all parts were ready at the start of the job, and our installers did a good clean job. I am not a big reviewer but this company did right by us. read more

It's been horrible negotiating with them. First the couldn't schedule installation unless they had a second job in Manhattan the same day. Had to schedule on a day which wasn't great for me, but ok. Then they arrived 2 1/2 hours late. The two men were nice, but one was obviously just learning. By 4:30 when they had to leave the building, they were about two thirds finished. When I called the office, they wouldn't give me a return time. I'm sitting here with two large closets worth of stuff piled up in the living room. read more

Today I experienced the worst customer service ever. I entrusted Closets By Design to design closets for my wife and I. After the initial consultation, I inquired with the designer Patty Mango about installing an additional drawer to my closet. She responded by indicating the plans would be amended and there would be an additional charge. While my instructions via email were quite clear, she made the changes to my wife's closet in error. This was a mistake on Patty's part. Once the closets were installed I contacted the company as it was apparent that there had been a mistake. Patty admitted that she thought we wanted to make changes to my wife's closet and realized her mistake once she revisited the email which clearly stated my intent. She then advised that she would talk to her boss and would call us back. The boss called me (I didn't quite hear her when she introduced herself). The boss advised that "WE," the consumers (not Patty the designer) should have caught the mistake prior to making the payment. Since we didn't, a refund is not possible. I DO NOT recommend Closets By Design as i don't believe we were treated fairly. We were not even offered a partial refund or an alternative resolution. Very disappointing. read more

I am writing this review to Thank Sue for sending the guys to finally fix my drawer last week. it took too long, but better late than never. Also the guys who were blasting music, she reminded me, were contracted out by closet by design to & rip out the old closet, not The actual "Installers of the New Closets", whom were ok. I am not happy with the height the designer made the actual closets, because my coats & dresses still hang down onto the other clothes on the bottom racks, the closets could have been built closer to the ceiling. She told me she left that space, 6 inches for "baskets"??? or storage, in hindsight, i needed to hang clothing, i showed her how many other closets i have in the house to do in the future for storage, i.e... needed shelving and drawers installed with labeling... anyway.. you can try your luck, I'm done with them . read more

I contacted this company for a price quote/consultation. I was asked for dates and times that worked for someone to come to my home for a price. I chose two dates, one preferred and one alternative. Those dates came and went with no contact from anyone from closets by design. Almost a month after I initially asked for a quote, I got an email from someone asking me to contact the office to set up a time for a quote.
