I used to really enjoy both shopping and selling here, but unfortunately the store has changed in recent years. The staff is still wonderful, but the overall selection feels much younger than it used to be. A few years ago, this felt like a women's store with a wide variety of brands and styles for different ages. Lately, the pieces being bought and sold seem geared more toward juniors, which makes the shopping experience less versatile for someone like me. I get the impression that the buying team is focusing on trendier, youth-driven styles, and while that may appeal to a younger crowd, it's a noticeable shift from what the store once offered. It's discouraging when my like new items from stores like J Crew, Theory & Vince are turned away, and then I see brands like SHEIN, Forever 21 & American Eagle on the floor. read more

I tried to sell my stuff there and they wasn't specific until I asked them but it just confused me cause I'm trying to sell my clothes I barely wear. I assume they would take in good condition clothes, but they were very specific of what they can take in which is a hassle and want seasonal clothes which I wasn't informed about until later and no one said anything to me about it before I can sell. Then I asked if they take in pajamas, one of the workers said no and the other said yes which is a mess last time I went. I only managed to sell a few things, but that was that. I wait two hours for them to go through, only to have them tell me the only thing they wanted to keep was ONE pair of shoes. For $5. Give me a break! This place is great for PURCHASING (especially designer purses!), (first star) but expect to get paid ABSOLUTE peanuts if you drop anything off with them. Not exaggerating. I'm almost embarrassed a little for them. I brought in a full garbage bag filled with lovely things today, and they gave me $15 and a few cents change. That will barely buy two lattes at Starbucks. They only took a handful of NAME BRAND items, and donated the rest. I think that averages about three dollars an item. In their defense, they pay their clients cash upfront which is very nice. They also give you a quote upfront, so you are free to simply deny the quote and take your items back home. They just earned their second star. No matter how nice your items are, expect at least half or more to be rejected by them for whatever reason. (I have only brought them the best of the best, too.) If you don't feel like taking your items back home, they will donate them to a local women's shelter which is nice. Let's face it, unless it's an expensive jacket or purse, who really wants to drag their items back home? That being said, I hope you like "peanuts" because that's what they will give you for your items IF You are blessed enough for them to actually accept them! From this point forward, I'm finding another option to consign. That being said, I will return to purchase. .... Especially if I would like a very nice designer purse. This will be my "go-to" purse place. I also found a sterling silver/gemstone crystal Vintage "Silpada" necklace in there for eight dollars. Whoever priced it didn't realize that it was a $200 necklace when new. That means the "consignor" probably only got two or three dollars for it. I'm going to throw in one more star, just because I like the girls who work there too. Especially their greeter. She's a sweetie pie. Bottom line? I made $15 more than if I dragged it off to Goodwill. I hear THEIR CEO makes millions per year off of donations that most people think goes to assisting the less fortunate. Good news? I was sold a fake bag before Covid and still haven't heard from the owner. I paid $1000 for it. I own a lot of designer bags and never purchased second hand. Lesson learned. Abby was so rude and Shawn the owner just called me. He was very unprofessional. He continuously cut me off . He kept saying how long ago it was. I called and he never returned my called during Covid. It just wasn't a priority then. People were losing their lives. GOD don't like ugly. I'm still in disbelief of the way he was talking to me about the date of purchase. Maybe he's going through something. I pray he heals. I hung up the phone. I have always loved clothes mentor but I recently went in two separate occasions and felt I needed to write this. I am not one to write a negative review but after my last experience at clothes mentor I won't be going again. They have great clothes and the shopping experience is good. The experience selling clothes was terrible due to the staff unprofessional, rude, and passive aggressive behavior. While waiting in line you can hear all the employees judging and talking poorly about customers and their clothing. Someone who has worked in customer service for many years I understand how challenging it can be, but it was absolutely unprofessional and just nasty. We live in a world where we need to show each other compassion and kindness, even in the smallest encounters. My sister likes Clothes Mentor and she's not the thrifty type. Now, I always hear about Clothes Mentor on the radio in Charlotte. I stopped in once with my mom just to kill time. I got a pair of LIKE NEW suede cobalt blue sandals by Sole Society for $10. They probably retailed for $60 before. I returned back just to see if I've missed anything else, not really. I recently purchased a Lily Pulitzer dress online from CM Arboretum and am absolutely thrilled with it! The price was considerably less than retail, it was in perfect condition, was in style, and fit perfectly. The dress arrived quickly and was packaged so no rain could ruin the dress if it sat in my mailbox. Another plus was that the staff had added a cute "thank you" and smiley face, which was so much more personal than receiving a bill of sale from a big vendor. I can't say enough positive things about my transaction with this store. I highly suggest giving them a try when shopping for stylish items in gently used condition for a fraction of the price. Overall, this store is pretty good and very organized. I usually come in the morning and they really aren't that busy. Store is organized by size and color which is great. They have a lot of designer stuff as well. My only complaint is that sometimes it's a pain to try to find someone to open the dressing room for you. I've also come here to sell a few items. All name brands and some items not even worn. They would buy a few items and tell me the items they didn't buy is out of style or out dated BUT I would come back a few weeks later to try to sell the same items they didn't buy and they bought a few of my items they declined. So if you get declined, go back in a few weeks because it might be what they are looking for! read more

I visited this store for this location for the 1st time on Dec.1 about 2:30-2:45. I had not done consignment with them before, so I asked how the sell/buy program work. A middle aged, short clerk told me how it worked. She said they only take high end like "Prada" and another designer name that I didn't recognize. I asked her if Loft, Ann Taylor and Talbot were high end and she responded no. I had an appt near by so, I didn't get a chance to browse. I came back about 6pm on Saturday and was intentional about browsing the racks. I was applaud to see the labels of Old Navy, New Directions and a sweater from Target. You can't imagine how disheartened with what I saw. I couldn't believe that what I saw was considered high end but the brands I mentioned were not. I actually purchased ankle boots whose label "Xappeal". I looked them up and discovered that brand is sold at Wal-Mart. That confirmed for me that the clerk did not provide me with the real truth. As I walked through the store, it occurred to me that it wasn't my designers/labels she was declining, it was my ethnicity. Shame on Clothes Mentor! I noticed another consignment store right across from you, "Hush". They gladly accepted my "Ann Taylor, Loft, Talbot and Dooney & Burke purse and my Michael Kors crossbody purse. FYI..Word of mouth can make or break a business. I suggest that you train your staff that EVERY customer should receive exceptional and honest service. this place is so unprofessional! I brought clothes there to consign and was told that they changed their consignment hours. As a hospital worker their hours are not conducive to people that work longer shifts. I went back a second time and was able to drop off. They then changed their store closing time from their previous times so when I went back for pick up the location was already closed. I then went back to pick up the next morning after confirming that it was OK to pick up a day later and got there 45 minutes early apparently because they also change their opening times to 11 AM. I then called because the staff were in the store and ask them simply to put out my bucket on the sidewalk and I would just take it that I could not come back for a fourth time. They refused. A staff member then came out and opened the door for another employee yet although I was giving them permission to put my items in my bin on the sidewalk taking the risk that they would be stolen they still refused causing me to go back for a fifth time. I will never sell with them nor recommend them. Aside from that, they will give you a total of about $18 for three Lululemon pieces one free people and some citizens jeans. If that $18 for all five pieces is worth it then go ahead read more

I also get so many compliments about the items I buy and the items are so much less inexpensive than retail stores with the exact same items. So, I hate to be the lowest rated review, however my review is based on consigning with Clothes Mentor, rather than shopping there. After three visits, I was truly disappointed with the amount of money they give you for your items. I have brought good brands, J. Crew, Banan Republic, Seven Jeans, etc. and both visits offered less than $30 for 5-6 items. Ridiculous! Great prices & a good selection of merchandise means that I will be back soon to do some more shopping at this new consignment shop in the Arbo. The store has a pretty large footprint for a consignment shop and they have so many racks of clothes, that you need to be prepared to spend some time hunting for your next bargain. I got a cute shirt for work for $8 and my sister found a great little skirt for $4! Gotta love it!! Plus, they have several fitting rooms, so you shouldn't have to wait too long to try something on. The employees I encountered were friendly & helpful. I will definitely be back to shop and will be bringing in some of my things to sell when I have some time to clean out my closet. Brought a bucket full of good quality clothes in and they chose nothing! Such a huge waste of time. I was told 20 minutes and got the text less than 10 minutes later. Most reviews said clothes were left how they were brought it, mine were clearly looked through because they were a mess in the bucket! I come here to buy and sell very often! Sure, they only pay $2-6 per item, but hey it's better than getting $0! They clothes they sell are cute and cheap. I got three shirts for $4 each, which is a great deal compared to going out and buying brand new clothes. The only complaint I have is that some items have unnoticeable defects until you have worn them for a while. I purchased a shirt there and when I was out wearing it I noticed loose threads coming from the seam, but I just got some scissors and removed them. This place is grand. A consignment lover's dream- especially if you have a taste for finding designer clothing. First time coming here I found a few Michael Kors blouses and a Tori Burch sweater each for around $20-25. Wasn't impressed with the fit of these particular garments, but I still walked out with a $5 tunic blouse from H&M, another top from a chic line I hadn't heard of, also $5, as well as a fabulous BRAND NEW wool hat from Urban Outfitters (original price $34, bought it for $6) and some spiffy new $6 shades. This store has a wide, WIDE selection of shoes, pants, tops, sweaters, jackets, dresses and handbags. All reasonably priced. Pretty cool :) Plus if you sell clothes to them, they give you cash. I had the best experience here! The staff was so friendly, I was asked probably by every employee if I needed help with anything or asked if I was ok. When I was ready to check out, I asked them about a post they had posted on Instagram and wanted to know if the outfit was still there, they stopped what they were doing to help find the entire outfit (which I ended up purchasing) it also was my birthday month and got 15% off. I was happy with what I got, the staff, how neat and clean the store was and the great selection of clothing they had. I always thought clothes mentor was for older women, but i found a lot of cute stuff for younger adults. I will definitely be shopping here more often read more

I was at a store next door and decided to drop by because I haven't been here in a while, which has honestly been very intentional. When Clothes Mentor first opened they were true to their mission: good quality, used designer clothing at reasonable prices. I'm not sure what has happened over the years but this store has become a huge disappointment. I am hard pressed to find designer clothes and have to pick through crap from Target, Walmart and Old Navy. You know the crap I'm talking about: poor quality, fast fashion throwaways that nobody wants. IMHO, if you are going to consign low quality merch, put it in the back & sell it for a dollar. All I know is I'm not paying $10 for a second-hand t-shirt from Target and I'm not picking thru rows of them just to find a gem. If you get lucky enough to find a designer brand item, many times they have stains or rips! Also, the hangers are packed onto the racks so tightly that you can barely move an item to get a look at it. And don't even get me started on the shoes. They are absolutely disgusting: dirty and scuffed up. There's no way I would ever buy shoes in here. The past few visits have always resulted in sore arms and a headache which is why I probably won't be going back. Such a shame... it used to be a nice store. Very poor customer service! I dropped off two huge bins of designer clothes, and they. Allen me the next day to let me know they were ready for me to pick up and collect. I got there the next day During MY LUNCH HOUR, and was told that they were unable to buy any of my items r/t wear; style or season. I look over at my bins, and the clothes are in them the same way I placed them two days ago!!! The clothes were never EVEN looked at. The manager offered to go through them "again" for me, but I refused.i would have appreciated honesty, but to tell me that they were unacceptable; when I look at the clothes that they are selling, and see the condition of them; when my clothes were last years fashion. If I could leave a negative star... I would! Brought 13 suits...all Talbots, Ellie Tahari to sell. First off was told they don't take suits because " they don't sell". Really? Wouldn't that be an important points to put on their website ( which it is not)???? Second they said they would look to see if they would but as separates (ummm but not as a suit) but ok. I n sooner walked across the parking lot to get a cup if coffee (since they said would take 1/2 hour) then I got a text that they were done "evaluating". So went back and they decided not to buy. Ok their choice. Then looked at the bags I brought them in.....and they never even opened them. Really? I understand that this is not my business but come on....you have no respect for customers do even look? Or to waste my time? I will never deal without these peoples again. Ever. PS. On Wednesday I came to clothes mentor, a thirty minute drive I should add, to buy some cute clothes! This place has been recommended to me and I finally decided to give it a try and see what good sales they had. As I walk up around 4:30pm, I try opening the door and it was locked. I was very confused because the lights were still on and there were still employees inside. There were no signs on the door about being closed early but some of the girls inside seemed to have been mouthing that they were closed. Now I do appreciate the company for giving the employees a half day before Thanksgiving, but as someone who lives far away, I was very upset about not having any information on why the door was locked. I think the management in the store could have stepped up and simply put a piece of paper outside letting customers know. Very disappointed. read more

So today I left a store so frustrated, I was in tears......I had 4 hours of free time so I decided to go to my favorite Designer Consignment store, this one Charlotte NC that I had never been to (not a tour, not to see family, but to go shopping)....we'll there were 2....so I mapped it out and knew I could spend 45 minute's in each one....so I get to the first to only to be met by a new cashier, who either didn't answer my questions, couldn't answer my questions or mumbled her answers....I asked her was I in the system...she did not know...can you please find out...do I have my points...she didn't know...well can you please find out..I asked her can you punch my members card...she didn't know..I asked her could she find out.....she was just not able to answer any questions....well she asked me for my personal information including my email address.....so finally after much struggle, her co worker came over (for what I didn't know). She explained that the cashier was new....... the manager just happened to (Kelly, who was great and now cashier #3) walk out the back, started answering my consumer questions and stated she would make sure I got in the system, took over the transaction and asked me how much had I spent in CM. she would take care of everything...even giving me a 25% off to the next store, answered the rest of my questions and we even talked about when her baby was due........so I was on my way to Gucci-Land and made it there with only 20 minutes of shopping time....I picked out my selection's and they take me to a special register (feeling so grand)....I then was told I didn't get the 25% off nor the 20% off that I hadn't used at the first store....I asked if I could speak to a manager (8120 Providence Rd Charlotte,NC 28277 Arboretum) and after making me wait about 5 minutes she finally came out....she told me she would not honor the coupons as they were not for designer items....duh...isn't this a designer store...not my first rodeo either...love me some Clothes Mentor....GLOBALLY...any way after going back and forth...she finally says...in addition, you're the one who called my sales associate a "crybaby".....I looked at her in disbelief....I told her look at my profile in your computer: my email address is "PCRYBABY" she asked me what my email address was 3 times..(I think that's why the second employee came over)..the manager looked dumbfounded...I told her the other employee should have helped her (cashier#1) instead of calling ahead to say that trouble was coming. If she (#2 cashier) would have listened to the whole conversation, she would have known what was going on and the original cashier never even corrected her...... I slowly pushed back the pair of Karen Walker glasses...The Furla Purse...The Lamb wallet...2 earrings and a broach...... As a black women, never felt so embarrassed, hurt, profiled and insulted in my life. They actually called ahead to tell on me. Cashier #1 must not have corrected what cashier #2 thought she overheard. All anyone had to do was simply look at my profile and see my email address. Just for the record, I train and develop young people at cash registers all over the country (proprietary software and corporate trainer) currently working for Chico's/WhiteHouseBlack Market/Soma and Boston Proper. It is sad that racism still exists; the manager felt the need to admonish me (as a customer and a person) and didn't take the time to get the whole story. That was time I spent that I can't get back. Such a fun store to go to. Prices are reasonable. Lots to look through, make sure you have enough time to look. I found some great things here, all which were brand new with the tags on them. You can also sell your like new clothing here. I will definitely be back. read more

Aside from the weird hours (who closes at 6pm on Saturday??), this location is pretty good. There are a lot of things squished into a small space, so I really have to be in the mood to dig. Recently, I'm not sure if they have come under a new management or something has changed but it seems like they are always understaffed and the employees seem overwhelmed, although they are still helpful under these times. The store is overwhelming. The clothing racks are so full you cannot shop comfortably. It seems as though management should step up and restore the store to its former glory. Took 4 bags of never used ( some with store tags on) or gently used good brands like Tahari , Ann Taylor, banana republic, Calvin Klein to them... I must have had 100 different dresses , suits , tops, sweaters and skirts..... it was a big effort carrying all this stuff over and then to go over the next day to get the clothes they didn't accept back . I was very disappointed that of the entire lot , they accepted 4 pieces of mine ! Was told that if they have too many of one brand or size they reject the clothing even if in good condition . This is my second experience with them and I won't go back again to this consignment store to sell anything ... am better off donating at goodwill . Not worth the time and effort!
