First time visiting this thrift store and I was pleasantly surprised. It was well organized with plenty of dressing rooms. It reminded me a lot of Plato's Closet with it's design. They have name brand clothing, accessories, shoes and purses, but at decent prices. I would not consider it upscale, but it is nicer than say Goodwill. read more

This store has saved me, even in times of emergency when I needed a dress for a wedding the next day! The prices are amazingly inexpensive and the clothes are in great condition. I am going to start off by saying that most of the negative reviews are from people who wanted to get a ton more money from their clothes without having any idea how much time and money goes into reselling second hand clothing. They also run multiple social medial profiles and a website!!! If you want to get more for your clothing, then sell on POSHMARK or marketplace yourself. That being said, I love Clothes Mentor! I have gotten so many amazing pieces from them from a gold Cartier LOVE ring to three beautiful Gucci bags to tons of lululemon and so much more!! And I've paid a fraction of what these pieces would have cost brand new. I am also always getting compliments on things I found there so I've basically become a walking advertisement for them and am always telling people about them I've gotten more compliments on my black bug Gucci bag I bought from them than on anything I've ever owned! I also love going because I never know what I am going to find! I am guilty of checking their website once a week at this point because I never know what's going to pop up. Most of my family and friends shop there now too! For Christmas this year, I've been tasked with making several outfits for friends and Clothes Mentor was the first place I went and found so many incredible pieces! Honestly this place is a hot mess . It's extremely unorganized their buying station was giving me anxiety just looking at it, I recommend not to waste your time selling here. I went in with multiple higher end items (retailing at $300-$600) and some other things, and they wanted to purchase not only all my high end stuff but some of my other items for the whopping total of $48.... I asked if they had done any research on my items, and they said it's up to the computer system and as someone that works at a resale store, I know that is a lie. It's unfortunate. read more

Service folks were nice however policies are odd. I walked in first and asked if now was a good time to bring in a car full of clothes. She said yes. After I carried in about 50 suits all dry cleaned and on hangers she said, "OH we don't take clothes on hangers." I said, " I didn't want to mess them up since they had come back from the cleaners." She then said, "we really don't take suits." She did apologize but listing this on the website would have saved me alot of work. So, please note, no suits and no hangers. read more

I dropped off two large bins of clothing (gently used and name brand like gap, j crew, Lilly Pulitzer...) and received a notification that the buy was ready later that evening. I then called the store and asked for the total amount. The employee told me it was "store policy" that they could not tell me over the phone; I'd have to come in and get it. So, the next day, I drive back only to be told they are "passing" on everything due to "inventory". What a joke! Complete waste of time and rude Staff. It was the night before my daughter's high school graduation and we were on a hunt for a dress. Clothes Mentor has a nice selection, so I wanted to make this our first stop. After trying on several dresses that didn't speak to her, we decided to look elsewhere, but not before she spotted a dress that she wanted to try. It was a satiny royal blue dress from Express with tags marked $79.90 still attached and fit her PERFECTLY! She found shoes and our journey was complete. As we made our way to the counter, I was told that orange tags were 30% off, so she got her entire outfit for $32. Not bad for a mom, I must say. P.S. I'm a frequent shopper here and have almost always had a successful trip. I love thrifting, and it's nice to shop secondhand here because there's less "junk" to sort through. Nice brands, almost always in good condition, and the staff has always been friendly. I've found a couple great things with tags still attached which is the best! Highly recommend following them on Instagram where they post some of their best stuff. I found amazing overalls, brand new from Urban Outfitters and they are my fave. I went into Clothes Mentor not knowing that it was basically an organized thrift store for clothes, shoes and accessories. Do they have name brand items such as Lulemon and Lulalaroe? Yes. Are the prices reasonable for name brand items? Maybe, I'm not really into those brands. Then why do I give them 2 stars? Other items (off brands and "cheaper" brands like Old Navy) in the store are terribly overpriced. Why would anyone buy a gently uses $16 Old Navy shirt at a resale store when it was probably $20 new? Seeing this pricing prompted me to walk out of the store. If you're a budget shopper, there are better deals elsewhere. If you are too fancy to go to a Goodwill store, Salvation Army store or shop on FB marketplace, this is the store for you! read more

I would have to agree with the other ladies...at first I thought it was the melanin...but after reading the other reviews it's just the employees...so maybe it's the location...but friendly customer service was NOT their strong suite!! As for clothing, shoe and purse selection...for the most part you will not be disappointed. I went in looking for a white dress for my friend who is plus sized...no luck...however there were a good selection of clothing and dresses that were not white. Their purse collection was phenomenal! Took in a large amount of maternity clothes in great condition, some never worn before, some I bought there and never wore. They took 5 minutes and barely looked at my items and decided not to buy from me. I was told they were in need of maternity clothes by a associate that works there a week prior to me taking the items in. They said my items were to worn ( most were never worn ).. I have seen items they sell that are more worn then my most worn item . Needless to say I will not be shopping there. read more

Let me just say don't go here unless you want to waste your money and time. I used my time and money to try and sell to them nice clothes that are exactly what they sell in the store as I've shopped there previously, just for them to give me $3.30 for one item. They didn't take anything else. When I asked they said condition. Which did not make sense because all my clothes were in good condition and what I thought they were looking for. They gave me $3 for a very nice blazer that I've never really worn and was almost in brand new condition. Like I get that they give a 1/3 of the price, but still that blazer was worth $20-40, I can't remember the exact price and I should have gotten a lot more for what it was worth. I brought in a $450 business suit in perfect condition from BCBG, and they handed it back immediately, almost without looking at it. Didn't even look at my other items. Don't sell here unless you're looking for lunch money. I came to sell a White House black market dress that was $200 and on sale on their website for $100. Given that the belt was missing I was looking to sell for at least $50. Instead I got it for $8. She said she "checked" the database for the store but I'm sure she looked for how much the dress was really worth. Since it was my first and last time selling to them I won't make a scene and I accepted because I didn't want to go through the stress of selling it somewhere else. I wish there was a rating star in between "Meh" and "A-OK" because my experience with Clothes Mentor was only OK, not great, but not so bad that I would never go back as a buyer (not sure about selling here). This consignment store is very similar to Simply Chic in that you sell your clothes right there. But I was there to buy. Unlike Plato's Closet, this store is aimed at the professional/mature woman with stylish selections of all types of clothing, shoes, jewelry, handbags and even maternity clothes. They claim they have sizes from 0-16, but as a small person, their size 0-4 selection in pants was pretty slim, no pun intended :). So I found several shirts I liked. I take them to the counter and the girl takes off the security tags, that have a little pin in them, and immediately we notice that there are now holes left in 3 of my shirts. Two holes were really bad. She said they are supposed to place the security tags in the seam, well that evidently didn't happen. The manager agrees to only 15% off each shirt even though the store is who caused the damage. I would have been happy with $50% off instead. So I bought the items anyway and now have to find thread and time to sew up the holes :( The other thing about this store is the pricing is all across the board. Some things I looked at were really inexpensive, say $4.00. In fact, I found a cute pair of no-name brand heels for $5.00. But other shoes I would look at would be $20, $50+. Now, I am not a clothing designer aficionado, I couldn't care less about name brand. I look for the style. So maybe most of the brands in this store are high end, I am not sure, but regardless, I am not going to pay the price just for a name. I bought 6 items for $46 and was refunded $3 for the holes in the shirts. It was kind of an odd first experience, but I will go back, I just have to pay attention to where they place the security tags. I went to sell them stuff, not really buy. I took lots of things, but they literally bought none of them. They really stick to the "1-2" years old rule. Some of my things were things that I thought were fairly classic pieces-just tees from the gap or even some khakis. I will say, and this is why they are getting four stars, that the place was clean, did not smell like goodwill, and was organized. It's a very nice store. As soon as I walked in I was quickly met with a hello and welcome. Sunglasses $6.99 or 2/$12. Tons of awesome jewelry. All clothes for women and they have plenty of purses and shoes. Parking lot all around the store. This store is one of the better stores I have been to regarding selection. They have better high end and luxury brands available. But this is also based on what is brought in for sale. If you see something, you better purchase it because it may not be there the next day. It is one of those places that you need to go to every week to see what is available. If you follow them on Facebook, you will from time to time see postings of high end purses, clothing or jewelry for sale. The staff can be very friendly or rude depending on who is there. The younger girls are normally not very friendly nor willing to assist. My last two visits I stood at the counter witness this while waiting for one of the 3-5 behind the counter to assistance. They talked about their plans or complained about schedules and how they had to come to work and others got time off. Mind you, there was a other people in the store. read more

This location has good prices on certain brands. I have found J.crew for less than $20 a piece. But for the consignment portion of this store, I would suggest elsewhere or apps like Poshmark. I recently went in and brought a bag of designer jeans, sweaters and jackets. They offered me a little over $20 for the items. Not worth it in my opinion. If you're looking to make a quick buck, this is your place. Over-all I think they have good prices, but as a seller I won't return. read more

I shop at clothes mentors all over the country and this is my absolute favorite store. The girls there love what they do, are very knowledgeable about the brands they sell, and are more than helpful. The items are too notch. You can find higher end mall brands but the designer section is what keeps me coming back. No other store has the quality of clothes this store does. I think this is a really nice consignment store! I found some great finds. My friend found a lot of maternity clothes she needed! However, the people who work here are not very friendly. Also, there was a dress that I liked there and considered buying. It had a tear, so I thought if they give me a good discount, I'll buy and fix it. However, they were only willing to give 10% off. If you're a fan of quality boots and purses -like me- I highly recommend this place. A brand-new Louis Vuitton purse just isn't in my budget. I picked up a pre-owned Louis with a slight rip to the fabric on the inside (hardly noticeable) and leather Steve Madden combat boots for an incredible price. I receive comments on the purse daily and have worn my boots too many times to count. If you are looking to sell things, they take NICE women's clothes, in like new condition, and high quality. For a hip Woman. As a 53 year old professional who buys quality clothing and takes care of her quality clothing I'm a little curious about what is acceptable to be sold to this shop. I took in several items, including a classic, V neck, sleeveless, Nicole Miller, crepe de chine, size 4, little black dress that had been worn ONCE. They passed. I had a black Kate Spade handbag. Pass. Chanel hat and scarf set. Pass. Hmmm? I had a few sweaters and I can understand not wanting sweaters but I had some other designer handbags that had been carried a few times and they passed, along with an ecru, size 6, Ann Taylor silk blouse that I've worn 2-3 times. They only took 2 items and while I accept their pickiness I am just confused about what IS acceptable and felt this was a colossal waste of time. I'm not reviewing due to sour grapes but am reaching out to every other busy woman to say, "Don't waste your time." Oh, I DID feel this place smells like a used clothing store, as some have said. That doesn't mean a thing, though. Quality clothing can be found in resale shops. I didn't shop so can't comment on clothing quality, however. read more

I am very disappointed in this store in terms or taking things in for sale. It seems the only styles they want are for the twenty year old age range. The staff seems to not understand that women of all ages shop for clothing. My biggest complaint is when you take brand new/never worn stylish items in ( maybe you have received as a gift or your size has changed and you decide to try to sell) and the staff has clearly been trained to say - "we are going to pass as these have too much wear or are over 2 years old!!!) This is a blatant lie and has happened a few times. I have decided to never go back as it is a huge waste of time. I see what is hanging in the shop - some things with stains and snags (which I would NEVER take in) and then they lie to me and tell me the items have too much wear when they are new. It is insulting and a horrible business practice. I gave them several tries but I am done. Have never had that problem at competitors. Just want to warn others to not waste their time. I have never actually purchased anything at this store, but have come to sell items twice now. The first time I sold a designer purse and I felt I received a very fair offer and left happy. The second time, I took a huge amount of clothes and shoes. They took some time to process my items so I looked around the store. VERY confused to see items from Target, Old Navy, JC Penney, Kohls, etc in a store that claims to resell high end items. If you are looking for Vera Bradley knock off bags, this is your store. Their designer clothing and shoe selection is really lacking but their designer bags are admittedly a great selection and price. When my offer was ready, they took about 2/3 of my clothes. While I understand that some of the items were probably not what they were looking for, they did not take 2 pairs of J Brand dark wash skinny jeans (?????) and proceeded to offer me $9 for a pair of unworn, in the box pair of Ecco boots. $9 for a pair of $200 boots. They use a computer system for all their offers, so I will definitely not blame the very nice and helpful girls working there. I would actually continue to buy and sell at clothes mentor, but ONLY bags. I will also echo other reviewers that this place has the "Goodwill" smell. read more

I am from St. Louis and was around the area for business so I stopped by to see in person a gorgeous sequin Chanel bag posted on their Facebook page. The bag was in absolute immaculate condition so naturally I had to bring it home with me - at an exceptional price!
