This past year I've expressed my concern for her weight loss, loss of appetite, throwing up a couple time a week, and reoccurring uti infections. I notice a lump on her throat a couple months ago and they tested her. They said the test has come back inconclusive. I feel they showed no concern for the lump and even told me at a following appointment that she looks great, her weight loss was good and they thought her lump had shrunk. My intuition told me something was wrong! A huge lump on the throat and major weight loss are alarming signs. Still concerned, I sought out a second opinion from another vet. This vet was immediately concerned with the lump. Within 24 hours this new vet was able to tell me the horrible truth. My dog has thyroid cancer and it's too late to save her. She only has a few months left to live. Our family is crushed and angry. I feel this practice has scammed my family and didn't care about our pet's health. I feel they only care about money. They wasted my time and money and made my dog suffer. My dog is dying and my family is heartbroken. This practice is very unprofessional and negligent. I feel Dixie Vet saw my pet as their "cash cow" because we have taken her in so much. They put my dog's life at risk and cost our family thousands of dollars in unnecessary treatments. I feel they only cared about making money off of my dog's suffering. My dog has been suffering and my family is heartbroken.

The only downside I've encountered is that the wait can be long- even with a scheduled appointment. Their prices are low and they provide excellent care, which makes them very popular. One time I brought my dog in after he had been attacked by another dog. He had extensive injuries. When they saw he was bleeding, they immediately moved me to the front of the line, gave him emergency surgery and kept him overnight, for a mere $500. The emergency vet would have been thousands more. They're not an emergency vet, but they saved my dog's life and continue to take care of my 16 year old. If you can be flexible regarding wait times, they are top notch.

He arrived promptly and was very professional. He took the time to explain the process, let us know what we may or may not witness as we and our beloved pet went through the process. When we were ready, Dr. Belue was gentle and kind to our dog. Luckily the process was peaceful and uneventful. We have been going to the same vet for 14 years, but Five Oaks will be at the top of our list if we decide to change vets for our other pups' regular check-up and other services . I started as a foster with PORT in their early days of conception and fostered with them for…read moreseveral months before they decided to completely ghost me. I ran into a situation where I needed some work done at my home, and I could not continue to foster the FOURTEEN foster pets that I had through them at the time. Rather than work with me, help me, and have empathy for my situation, I experienced a lot of pushback, and negative reactions to needing a break from fostering. My phone calls and texts were not being returned. When they were returned, I was met with attitude and a complete lack of understanding or compassion. After much resistance, they finally took the fosters back. They don't supply their fosters with food or supplies as they claim. Not once was I given any supplies for the dozens of animals that I fostered through them, even when I expressed that the puppies I was fostering were going through more food than I could manage. They also don't spay and neuter most of their animals before adoption. Now that I am back in my home, neither Regan, nor Jaime, (the founders of PORT), will return my messages asking about the well-being of my former fosters. If you bend over and break your back for them, you'll be great. But God forbid life happens and you find yourself unable to help, because you then mean NOTHING to them. Proceed with caution should you decide to do any sort of business with PORT. Don't expect a lot of help. Definitely don't expect compassion and empathy when life happens. Edit in response to PORT's reply: Port requires a minimum of 5 days notice for return, except in cases of emergency. I had an emergency. I explained this to you guys over and over and over again and your response was, "that must be tough." I had a dog through you that was being aggressive with a child. But you guys didn't consider a threat to someone's safety an emergency and were of no help. In some cases, I waited more than 5 days for you to help; I waited literally weeks! Not to mention that that dog was pregnant, and when I took her, you never advised me that that was a possibility. So I ended up with eight puppies, when I agreed to one. It was never "clear to you" that our foster relationship had come to its conclusion and that I wished to step away. I quite literally told you that once I was back in my home, I would take the animals back if they still needed placement. I notified you on July 10th that I could not handle all of the puppies. You did not take them until July 18th, and that was only after I showed up to get their shots and microchips, and had to PLEAD with you to help me. I notified both of you that Rusty was a safety risk, and you literally did not care. Even after notifying you of the unsafe circumstances, it took you two days to take her, and that was only after I refused to give you any more leeway. That was also after I had notified you on July 10th that I could not handle all of the animals that I had. You did not take Rusty back until July 31st. I let you know on July 28th that I was having trouble getting the kittens adopted. I notified you on August 4th that we needed to move the kittens. You did not take them until August 15th. As for the spay/neuter, it's irresponsible for a rescue not to spay and neuter before adoption, regardless of any contract. I also asked, several times, about getting my fosters fixed, and you never followed through. Don't gaslight me. You did enough of that when I was actually fostering with you.

I had a cat come down with cancer a couple of years ago. He lived longer than he should have and really pushed through it. At the end, he was 20 years old. I never felt pressured to do anything that I wasn't comfortable doing or to say goodbye before I was ready. The staff is just so nice and so empathetic. They were very helpful to update us on local laws and were able to get our dog licensed. Our dog was already older when we moved to Brookville. When she started experiencing symptoms, they were very compassionate when I came in without an appointment. They could tell our dog was in distress. They immediately got her in and went over how they would examine her. Unfortunately, we discovered our dog had an enlarged spleen and mass that was crowding our organs and was causing her great pain. Dr. McPherson went over our options. If we did only pain meds, her spleen would likely burst and she would bleed to death. Because of her age, it was likely she wouldn't survive surgery. I reluctantly decided the best option was to put her to sleep. Dr. McPherson and Dr. McKinsey were so compassionate. They gave me the time I needed to comfort our pet, and then to mourn her loss as she went to heaven. I highly recommend the hospital. They were there for us in our time of need.
