Had a great stay! Arrived at 11pm after driving from Grand Teton. Enjoyed a quiet and comfortable sleep in crisp linen. The room was clean. Good hospitality at front desk (coming and going), the room had all we needed, and we visited the little lounge on property when it opened at five and found it very nice: they had games, pool table, spirits, beer and wine, a nice bartender and locals coming in after work. Montpellier, Also Known As, Practically Nowhere, ID, especially on Monday, when the only restaurant in town that's open is Subway. But this isn't the hotel's fault and they attempt to make amends by offering a horrific on-site bar. It has been a LONG time since I've entered a bar that permits smoking. The shock of the odor of stale tobacco immediately closed my trachea, but I was able to hold my breath long enough to quickly exit the Gas Chamber before expiring. Front office was great, giving us a ground floor room in the Gigantic Hotel. Biscuits and Gravy for breakfast were fantastic, and the room was what I expect in a budget hotel: No bugs, but questionably clean. AC was loud and about 6 feet off the floor, allowing me to set the temp without my wife's interference. read more

The Good: It was better than expected. They were dog friendly. The room was pretty spacious. The bed was relatively comfortable with pretty smooth sheets. The TV was big and pretty good image quality. They had a lot of parking spots even though they were pretty much full. The a/c worked very well--which was greatly needed because long gone are the cool summer nights in the Bear Lake Valley. The Bad: Some surfaces not regularly used (like the bedside lamps) were dusty. The lights outside were super bright and they filtered into the room through the gaps on the door and curtains. There was hair on the blanket and did not belong to anyone in my family--kinda gross. The Ugly: The furniture was old, dingy, and very ugly. It looked like office furniture. The walls were completely bare. I guess it reduces surfaces to gather dust, but the room just looked sad. Just stayed here last night. Here's my list... Room: -smelled like animal urine -oldest bedding ever made. -pillows we're not that nice -like a weird mix of warm and humid upon entry. Like somebody left a wet bath towel soaked in farts. -ac wall unit is in the bathroom/closer area, not the main part of the room -about 4 TV stations that were normal -great shower pressure Breakfast: (We stayed here once before and the breakfast was decent. Not this time) You always need kid friendly food. I saw the disappointment in my own son's eyes and in about 3 other kids that walked in. It was like a breakfast for a senior home. There always needs to be a cereal option for kids. They got to choose between raisin Bran and plain Cheerios. The apple juice didn't work. The cranberry juice tasted like water with cranberry dripped in it. No cream cheese for the bagels. The eggs are clearly reconstituted powder eggs. Biscuits and gravy were just okay. A shared container of milk for the cereal. Last time they had individual cartons. The fruit was old oranges. They have a little fridge that has a sign for frozen breakfast sandwiches and frozen breakfast burritos. I opened that up expecting it to salvage the experience. Completely empty. Sugar free applesauce. My great-great-grandmother would have liked it, but us, not so much. Cans of tomato juice. Now read back through that list and tell me it doesn't look like the breakfast for somebody who just had a heart attack or was committed to a full-time care facility. I only stayed here because everything else that I had been looking at was full for the night. Luckily I have a new hotel waiting for me tonight. The people are nice though. read more

There aren't many bars in Montpelier, so this gets five stars just for existing. The service is great too. They have pool and some other games and an electronic jukebox. And you can get pizza delivered if you're hungry. Last time I was there someone ordered pizza and shared with the whole bar. read more

Amazing. Wonderfully hospitable inn keepers. Went out of their way for us - after 10 hours on motorcycle, we checked in at 10:15 pm. The hot tub closed at 10 but they opened it, let us in for an hour! Homemade chocolate chip cookies before bed and biscuits and gravy for the included breakfast! Who could ask for more. Beautiful bedding, clean, nicely decorated, just a great place. Highly recommend!!! read more

Good rooms, great staff, affordable rates, solid breakfast, all in all a good motel for the weary traveler

This place looks a little like the U-shaped motels that used to dot Route 66 back in the day, but looks can be deceiving. This place has nice rooms and a pizza/bar upstairs with a really nice bartender. The heating and air conditioning systems are separate from each other, and they warn you not to try running them both at once. The bar could use a smoke filter; you don't see a haze like that indoors much any more. Bottom line, if you enjoy a few quirks from the everyday blahs, this place is for you! read more

I would say NO stars if I could post without them!!We had a group go to this hotel recently and it was absolutely the worst experience I have ever had and I travel quite often! First of all we arrived quite late, so it was about midnight or so...obviously exhausted. The kids in my room had settled down but the room was really hot! Temperatures were in the 90's. I went for a drink at their little bar on the premises with another friend there on the trip. I returned to find the boys asleep. I could not get the air conditioning on. I got ready for bed but slept on top of the bedding because it was so hot! In the middle of the night I crawled under the sheets. I had set my phone alarm set on the left side of the bed. When I reached over to get it I moved my pillow and there was blood on the sheet! I got up mortified ...first thinking I must have done it. I checked all over and there was not one open wound ! I checked my nose! Nothing! I had just slept on sheets that were dirtied by someone else's blood! I went to the owner of the hotel to complain! He backed his 5 housekeepers and said it was mine or those rambunctious boys! I said it could infect me with a horrible disease and he said no that would be only because of my bad behavior! His defamation of my character was appalling! I asked him to refund our team money for the room and he said no and 86'd me from the premises! When I spoke to others in our group many of them had dirty room complaints , noise issues and evidently a fight broke out and woke several of our players one parent went out of the room because of the noise and there were people smoking pot!.and several issues regarding no air conditioning! The owner told the coach I was to leave and not return and went into a song and dance about the hotel had to move people around and send people home to accommodate us! ?? Coach again asked about the blood and he stated the same and said nothing about the blood! In any case I would NEVER stay there! read more

Best bar in the town. Fast and friendly bartenders. And you can't beat the prices. We got to town a little late and every option for food was closed, but thank goodness they had AMAZING pizza. I had a "Bloody Caesar" (which I think is just a fancier version of a bloody marry) and I'm not joking when I say I have yet to find a better Bloody Marry! read more
