These gardens are lovely to visit for fresh air and a stroll. Admission is a bit pricey at $15 per adult so you'll want to stay for a few hours to make it worth the fare. Parking fills up quickly. They have an overflow lot a few blocks away, but it's an uphill walk to get back to the park. It's a great place to have a picnic. Lots of families and kids. We ate lunch at the cafe, but weren't super impressed by the food. The chipotle chickpeas were bland. The paper menus also didn't match what was actually available at the register. The line to order was quite long, but the wait for the food wasn't the worst. They had lots of seating indoors and a nice outdoor patio with more tables. We walked a few of the trails. Most were unpaved. We managed fine with a stroller, but the paths were a bit rocky. To see several sections, you need to climb stairs so a stroller was not the most convenient. The view of the Hudson, from both the upper and lower terraces, is wonderful and great for taking pictures. It was spring so they had tulips in bloom. Their shady grove of trees was cool to check out. I also loved the upper gardens. read more

Wavehill is a Bronx gem! They have stunning gardens and a beautiful trail you can walk that is scenic and fun. To tour the entire garden takes about two hours, there are so many great things to see from the gift shop, unique exhibits featuring artwork and the gorgeous gardens located all over. Yoko Ono's "Wish Tree" is being exhibited at Wave Hill as a part of the garden's 60th anniversary celebration. Visitors were invited to write a personal wish on a tag and tie it to the tree's branches, which transforms it into a collective symbol of hope and peace. This was my favorite part of visiting Wavehill. I also enjoyed seeing the Sunroom Project Space which features NYC artists. The exhibit that caught my eye was by Magdalena Dukiewicz's Sun Porch. The exhibition showed underused land contaminated by industrial or commercial activities, this was interesting as this aligns with the experiences of Bronx natives. I definitely recommend visiting Wavehill, this is the perfect place to spend an afternoon. read more

Great park with views if the hudson river. Some nice trails and always fun family friendly activities in the summer. Pricing is not too bad, but would recommend a membership if you are coking more then ~3 times in the summer. Parking is a pain. They have a small paid lot, but always full during events. There is a overflow lot (shared with a school), but that one requires waiting for a shuttle (with unpredictable wait times), or walking ~8 min on a small road over to the parking lot. I enjoy this place during the summer and when they have some special events such as live salsa band concert and lessons on the big lawn. read more

Wave hill is a beautiful place where gardens flourish , bunnies hop, variety of birds fly , dragonflies dance in the air , and a variety of trees shrubs and flowers say hello! I felt like I was lost in another world. You can roam wherever you like . Great place to take pictures of throw an event or even go on a romantic date. I took a bus and a train and walked a lot to get there , and by walking it was a little strange to find . I would recommend going by car for easier access. The attendants at the ticket booth were helpful and nice. 10.00 is definitely worth coming here , you can stay as long as you like and just take everything in. read more

This summer, I finally checked off Wave Hill Garden from my NY list. It is a gorgeous and expansive garden with an overlooking view of the Hudson River. Dress cute for photo opps! My friend and I went in the dead heat of July summer, so it was a bit difficult to enjoy without feeling weighed down by the weather. Luckily, there is a small cafe inside with A/C so we took a break there. If I lived in the area, I would probably visit more often as it is a trek from Brooklyn. We visited The Cloisters as well on this day trip since it was in the same area and took a cab to Wave Hill after. This is definitely worth a visit! Pro tip: The garden is on the Culture Pass with the NYPL/BKPL - so you're able to get a free admission with guests. read more

The Wave Hill Garden is incredibly underrated. It's a beautiful and peaceful 28 acres garden. It's only a $10 entrance per adult. They are closed on Monday and admission is free on Thursdays. The grounds are perfectly curated and maintained. The flowers! Wow! some many beautiful flowers. There is such a stunning waterfront view. This place is a little hidden gem that is sitting right in Manhattan's backyard! I can't believe I've never been here before! I swear the air is cleaner and fresher here, and should be your way to welcome spring with a visit! It was $10 for entry, and they do have parking onsite for $13, but if we've had known we could park just outside the gates for free, we would've done so. We didn't gather this until we left, but now we know for next time if we get here just in time for opening at 10AM. This place is really beautiful with the cherry blossoms blooming, open greenhouses, and leisurely space that allows you to juts soak up the amazing views and sounds of the birds. Be sure to wear sneakers or hiking shoes if you decide to do their walking trails through their grounds; highly recommended! It makes you feel so far away, and yet you are still in the city. The plants and tree are marker as to their species and their full names if you are a nature enthusiast. We did see a few people armed with guide books at they were looking for different greenery throughout their guided tour. Be sure to check their website. Within the Cafe building, in the basement, there is a whole activity space for children to learn, explore, and play, so be sure to keep that in mind too when planning a visit! Omg. I was just reading an article about this place and said oooh I've been there before. It's been a few years since I've visited but it was definitely memorable. I remember it was in the boon docks and a bit tricky to find. Parking was scarce and I parked on a side next to some trees. lol I remember it feeling a bit deserted in the area with some beautiful houses. I remember going during a weekday and it wasn't crowded. However, the grounds were clean and beautiful. They have several places to sit with different views. They have a cute little cafe that serves food and drinks. The staff were friendly. I love how open the space is and even it's crowded there's enough space to chill comfortably. I remember the visit feeling peaceful because it was quiet and the weather was comfortable. This is definitely a spot to check out, even though it doesn't feel like you're in the Bronx. read more

What a find here in the Bronx! Wave Hill has gorgeous gardens, historical houses and a killer view of the Hudson. The property was built by a lawyer named William Lewis Morris in 1843. In 1960 the property was deeded to the City of New York and became a public garden. Theodore Roosevelt and Mark Twain have stayed here. There are 3 main buildings: Wave Hill House, Glyndor House and the Perkins Visitor Center & Shop. Wave Hill House Cafe has a wonderful terrace to drink coffee & bird watch from. The Pergola overlook was my favorite spot, then the wild flower & aquatic gardens. There are woodland trails and art exhibits. The staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful. I used a culture pass, but if you do buy an entrance ticket it can be applied towards the daily tour. This is an impressive place! Highly recommend it! Wave Hill is an extremely beautiful garden. I have been there mostly in May or June when the trees and flowers are in bloom. I am sure it is stunning when fall colors take over. It is located along the Hudson River so there are amazing views of the Palisades on both sides of the river. There is a shop with lots of gardening supplies - plants, seeds, potting soil, and the like. Visitors can go with a tour guide or on their own. Parking is available on site but I don't know what the current rates are. There is a dining facility on the property which I have not tried. This is a really nice way to spend a couple of hours of your time. They also print a calendar of events of special programs. read more

This place is a little out of the way to get to with public transportation. I had to take the Metro-North train to the Riverdale stop and then walk from there. Wave Hill is very similar the three botanical gardens you find in Queens, Bronx and Brooklyn. It is a large public garden with a diverse variety of plants, landscaped gardens, and a greenhouse. The best part of this place is the view of the Hudson River you'll get. I would not say this is a must see for those without a car, but it is a beautiful and very peaceful place to check out nonetheless. read more

What a beautifully maintained garden and cultural center right here in NY. Only 12 miles from midtown and was only a 20 min drive for me to get there. They have free parking but it's a bit of a hill to walk up. Otherwise you can pay (I think $10?) for parking at the front. I booked my ticket online in advance (that's the only way to do it right now). The ticket is good for the day. I was lucky I went on a weekday when there was no crowd at all so I had the place almost completely to myself to enjoy. Loved the garden and view. The gallery is currently closed for renovation. Went for the holiday market last week. We thought it would be crowded but it wasn't at all. There were maybe 20 local vendors, chocolate and honey from the south Bronx, jewelry, posh cashmere scarves, greeting cards, silk scarves from China, flavored vodka from upstate, mulled wine, fruit pies and lots of great raffles. The menu at the cafe had changed from last time we were there and it was delicious. Tater tots with pulled pork! The double smash burger with chips was good and pumpkin soup. The staff in the cafe were efficient and polite. They gave us a lemonade and passion fruit lemonade as our food took over 45 minutes to be delivered to us. Not sure what happened but thought that was a gracious gesture that you don't get at a regular restaurant. read more

I came here a long time ago with someone who meant and means a lot to me. He is no longer in my life, but Wave Hill is pretty much all I really have left of the positive aspects of that relationship. I love everything about this park, what it has done for me and what it had done for others. It is an understatement when I say that local parks and gardens do so much for our physical and mental health. They are also very beautiful and contribute to our environment and conservation efforts. I have always appreciated Wave Hill for what they do, what they contribute, and the special place they have in Riverdale, The Bronx, and in my heart. In the future, I do plan on making more stops here and will eventually purchase a membership of my own. This place is so beautiful and is definitely a gem hidden at the corner of nyc in Riverdale. Best place to visit for its spring & fall colors. One of the best public garden that I have visited. The Hudson River view is amazing from the top. The flowers and plants are well arranged and maintained. It has manicured lawns that everyone feels like hanging out on the grass the whole day. Different variety of gardens are open to public for a visit. There are walking trails for everybody's leisure. A cafe, a gift store , group picnic tables and a museum are part of its facilities. I totally enjoyed today's visit. Such a serene and quiet place. I presented my culture pass on this Saturday morning visit at the ticket booth then informed at the end that they normally give free admission on the first three hours of their operation. There is a self parking space for a fee. I could have look for a street parking only if I have known that I could. When we arrived , I found the area as residential neighborhood and I do not want to disturb their privacy. The garden provided free transportation to the visitors who wants to go the garden coming from the train station in Upper West Side - see their website for exact location. Well kept gem in the middle of the urban jungle. This place have beautiful gardens, small sitting areas, a pond with fish and water lilies ( which is hard to find in the North American parks) and magnificent view!! We went in the midsts of COVID-19 pandemic (summer 2020).. the entrance was hard to find because : it is in a residential area and sits on a hilltop ...on the top when we visited..either because of the covid or construction they closed the main entrance. We had to go through a very tiny small gate . For a first timer it was very confusing. We did wore mask throughout our visit.. most of the people weren't .We saw a bride and groom walking with at least 25+ people for their wedding photography session. They were having a huge wedding party in one section of that Park/garden. It is a really nice and tranquil place to visit and nice place for picnic . Take a leisurely stroll through this garden. Take in the views of the Palisades and the GWB. Watch the bees and butterflies feed. Take a hike through their "woods." At 28 acres, and with most of the buildings closed for Covid, you can meander through the whole thing in less than an hour, even while taking copious amounts of pictures. The parking lot was closed. But, we managed to find street parking several blocks away. The blocks in the immediate are no parking/private streets. But, you're here for a stroll. Might as well stroll a few more blocks, right? This is a great place to go sightseeing while being socially distanced. Taking a look at the scenery and the river and listening to the breeze and birds may make you forget that you are still in NYC. The staff is very welcoming and informative about the different types of plants around. There were a few art exhibits on display that showcased beautiful flower art. Beautiful spot in the Bronx, headed toward Yonkers. Gorgeous overlook of the river and Devine landscaping. Lots of different plants and flowers. Spectacular greenhouse with some very unusual species. Very colorful, a feast for the eyes. You can smell the heavenly batches of lavender as the scent fills the air. Also plenty of benches to sit and admire your surroundings, quiet and a great place to reflect. They also have a nice pond. They have a small art gallery included in admission as well as the historic Wave Hill house, where Mark Twain and Teddy Roosevelt summered. Pretty architecture. Nice little cafe. Food is average at best, but wonderful patio seating, so it was worth it. I fed little birds tiny pieces of bread. Entrance was 10 dollars. Parking directly on site was 13, though I believe there is a shuttle from farther away if that price rubs you the wrong way. Wave Hill and Untermeyer gardens are about eight miles apart, so you could easily do both and have a great outdoor day. read more

Wave Hill is one of the most peaceful, clean, and quiet places that exists in all of the 5 boroughs. It's smaller than the other two gardens, and provides a more intimate and less harried experience. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The family art projects on the weekends are lovely for families with young children. The views of the Palisades are gorgeous. One of my favorite areas is the aromatic herb garden. The koi pond is a the perfect place to take a load off, surrounded by well shaded benches. The woodsy trails are nicely secluded, so that you feel you've meandered into a forest. If you're fortunate enough to secure a chair on the lawn, sit back and relax and enjoy the silence. read more

Wave Hill is a beautiful public garden located in the Bronx. It's an awesome day (date) trip with wonderful landscape views of the Hudson River overlooking the Palisades. Do be careful as there's a lot of walking steps here. There is an admission fee but it is free on Thursdays. Parking is tough, so stay conscious. Be advised: you can picnic at their designated areas but blankets are not allowed in their grass area. They take etiquettes very serious and overemphasized it's not a park but a garden. Definitely read their know before you go page on their site, because they don't play. I don't blame them as they're just preserving the nature of the grounds. I don't give it a 5 because it's not as easy to reach as other more beautiful parks and it costs 10$ to get in. Always strange to get charged for seeing nature, and this place isn't magical in my opinion to be charging as if it had the views of a Grand Canyon or a bamboo forest..still it's very charming and I would recommend to someone who is in the area. read more
