While at the Bridge, I mentioned that I was also considering going over to Riverbend Park which was only about 20 additional minutes from where we were. A couple of the folks decided to join me. I've been here probably a half a dozen times but never checked in and left a review although I did post some photos. Our group leader was familiar with the Park because she had hiked the trails often but was not aware of the Dam for Lake Hickory which is just upstream. The other lady was aware of the Dam but did not realize that there was a Park just downstream. When you pull into the main parking lot, at the back side is a small road with a sign that says "Trailheads" to the right and Picnic Rest Rooms to the Left. Not obvious but if you take the Left Fork, you go down the hill to the River. At the bottom of the hill is another parking lot next to the Catawba River. When you first to into the lot, there is an observation deck that extends out into the edge of the Catawba River. Great view of Fall foliage from here. If you go back past the covered picnic shelter you end up at the Canoe Launch area. Another beautiful area. We missed it but they open up the dam on occasion for the Canoe's and Kayaker's to create whitewater. At that time. all the rocks you see in the photographs are submerged. A little past peak color but the maples with their shades of rea were still beautiful.

Around 100 feet long, the longest straight ramp I've ever seen and if you are able to launch from here, you're clearly a backing up trailer expert. The park has a picnic shelter with tables and grills, a pretty gazebo and a fishing pier. An activity building (currently closed) has restrooms. The shoreline has a fabulous view of the lake and the picnic tables would be perfect for doing exactly that by the waterside. Parking lot is the trailhead for a paved bikeway and walking trails. Our team at work chartered a yacht fro here for a team celebration. I must say, I was impressed at…read morehow nice the yacht was. It was about 50 of us, and at no point did the yacht feel crowded. Plus if people want to hang out downstairs and upstairs, it could easily accommodate 100 or so people. The yacht had a front porch and a back porch downstairs, both covered but open on the sides. The front had a swing and some rocking chairs while the back had a patio table and patio chairs. We unfortunately had a rainy day, but hanging out on either of these porches allowed us to enjoy the view without getting wet. They also have a cabin downstairs which is super nice. You'd think you're on a cruise. the inside of the cabin is really nice, all wood, carpeted and very clean. There's a little countertop, a bar, refrigerator, TV, couch etc. There are 3 bathrooms (maybe more?) all of which are very clean and well maintained. The upstairs deck is partially covered. If it's raining, you will get a little wet while on the stairs going up or down, but it's not bad. They have a bar upstairs, and while we were there, they kept having trouble with the power going in and out, because of which the registers wouldn't work, and we had to wait forever for drinks. But in the end they got it working as everything was good. It's a hassle if you are paying by card, so bring cash! Plus, cash tips are always better, right? Our captain was super nice, as were the servers/bar tenders. The captain even let some of us steer the boat! Do give them a try for your next party/work event. Highly recommended!

Heather and Isaiah managed timing perfectly so that we could make desired stops at Hello, Sailor and North Harbor Club, but still feel like we saw a good portion of the lake. Highly recommend!

Tried renting a pontoon boat for my birthday and they texted my cell around 8:30 at night to see…read morehow often I've driven boats. Never had this kind of experience before when renting cars, boats, jet skis, etc - they usually ask on the website (which they did and I answered) or they ask when we get there. They then proceed to tell my I need a boating safety certificate since I'm born in 1988, not before. I instead, give them my friends info who was born in 1985 and said she will drive. They really texted her at 9pm on a Wednesday night and started asking her about her boating experience. It was odd to say the least. At 11:15pm they email me and tell me that they have decided not to approve my request for a boat. It was a weirdest, most unprofessional experience I've had trying to rent any type of equipment like this. I'd avoid them and go with nicer, cheaper alternatives.
