    Spinach Empanada
    Carroll N.

I previously saw high ratings and decided to give this a try since it's close to our hotel. I love empanadas and thought it would be more authentic than in the states. Sadly I was disappointed. It was close to 8 when we arrived. I got an order of the meat and spinach empanadas. Empanadas here tend to be flatter in Spain. The flavor for both was good but it was soft and cold. In the states they are served warm and crispy. My friend ordered the cod and tuna and hers appeared to be burnt on the outside. We both agreed if given the choice we would not come back.

Delicious empanada de atún (a savory pastry filled with a tuna mixture) and anchovies in vinegar with spices. Accompanied by a Galician beer

Empanadas were mediocre at best. The spinach one was horrible. All were cold. I have no idea how this place has good reviews.

Warm and welcoming staff for visiting tourists. Delicious empanadas. Price is fair/cheap for such a touristy area. Would come again.

Chalito ended up being such a good find. My friend and I stumbled across it after watching a…read moreflamenco show near La Rambla, and I'm glad we did. Chalito is a chain restaurant in Spain that specializes in Argentinian milanesas, which are thin breaded meat cutlets topped with all kinds of good stuff, and I knew I had to try one. I ordered the Milanesa Mallorquina with sobrasada, Mahón cheese, honey, and a mozzarella base, and it was absolutely delicious. The mix of savory and sweet worked so well together. I also tried a slice of my friend's serrano pizza, and that was really good too. Another thing I liked was that they offer their own special aiolis to choose from. As somebody who loves extra sauce on the side, that was a huge plus for me. The food impressed me so much that I ended up going back to a different Chalito location in Madrid just to try the sausage and chili oil pizza, and it was just as bomb. Their portions are so huge I didn't have room for dessert on either of my visits, but their cheesecake looks amazing, I'll have to grab a slice on a future visit The service was excellent, and I appreciated that they had menus in both Spanish and English. The restaurant is also very spacious, which made the whole experience feel easy and relaxed. You do not really have to stress about getting a table or making reservations, which is always nice when you are traveling. Overall, Chalito is a great spot if you want a satisfying meal in Spain without all the hassle of planning ahead. I would definitely recommend it whether you are visiting or already local.
