We were hungry and sat outside the first time and inside the second. They food here is fresh & delicious. Compliments to the chef , really great. We came back it was so good.
A long line almost out the door awaited us. The bigger problem is that they didn't seem to have any system in place to figure out the places in the queue. We nearly gave up as the staff refused any eye contact. Finally though they seated us after about 20 minutes or so when a big group left and vacated multiple tables at once. We wasted no time in indicating that we wanted the Pica Tapa menu for 17.20€. This came with 9 different tapas. They were not amazing to be perfectly honest. The two most laughable were tomato paste on toasted baguette and the fried spicy green peppers. The combination of long queue to be seated, slow service, mediocre food, and expensive tapas(34.40€ for two people) relative to the quality, leads me to not be particularly fond of this highly rated restaurant.
Gayle and I stopped in on the power (and directions) of a Rick Steves' Tour Book Restaurant Elisabets is a happy little neighbourhood eatery and well worth the effort to get past the La Rambla scene (including a barker or 2 beckoning us to come hither to their restaurant). I also enjoyed the collection of old radios and the comfortable local vibe that was spread out among a front bar and at least 2 different dining rooms. We had the 3-Course (including dessert) Menu del Dia, but had to guess a bit as very little English is spoken or written here. Cash Only too. As we poured over the Spanish menu, Gayle encouraged me to be "adventurist". I pointed and ended up with a large and tasty bowl of Lentil soup and some killer baked ribs. "Cosmopolitan" Gayle chose and eggs/sausage dish for the first course and the equivalent of chicken strips and fries for the main dish. A nice house wine and dessert rounded out a very filling and satisfying Lunch.
This was our very first stop in Barcelona and what a hearty lunch meal it was. It's tucked in a beautiful little alleyway and isn't too spacious inside. I highly recommend coming here for the menu del dia, which is essentially a lunch special that includes an appetizer (primero), entree (segundo), postre (dessert), and bebido (drink). Oh, and let's not forget the complimentary basket of bread with olive oil. They did not have an English menu, so my friends and I honestly chose dishes at random. The good thing is, you can't really go wrong. Here's what we ordered: -Salad, fish, chocolate mousse -Croquetas de jamon, beef cheek, chocolate mousse -Fideua, chicken, cake Our favorites were the salad, croquetas de jamon, beef cheek, and chicken. But wait...I ordered a wine to drink, thanking that I'd get just a glass of red. Lo and behold they brought over an entire bottle, which you can pour at your own desire. Beautiful. Total cost: 35.85 Euros

We simply took a place at the barra and ordered some tapas and beers. The tapas were authentic and the service could not have been better especially as we were communicating in Spanglish. The patatas bravas were so good, their little peppers (pimientos Padron) were excellent. This is a must stop on your visit to this great city.
This one was just amazing!!! Rare find. Great homemade food and great service. Food is so natural and delicious! This is a place where locals go for lunch and dinner - not too many tourists. Again, place is SUPER!!! Highly recommended!
This place was simple and delicious! Truly authentic Spanish tapas. The menus are not in English, but that's what google translate is for! Order the peppers and the fish!
The service was friendly, and my fiance and I absolutely loved the "Menu Pica-Tapa," their Friday-night prix fixe menu. It requires a minimum party of 2, costs 15.80 euros (at the time of this review), and the price includes literally an enormous bar feast with pitcher of sangria included. Our table was literally packed to the brim with plates of food. It's a sampler menu of 10 different, fairly common tapas dishes. The portions were huge and much more than a bite per person. I really enjoyed the meat skewers (brochetita de carne), the shrimp (gambas a la plancha), and the charcuterie plate (plato de embutidos). The sangria was also delicious. I think this place would be appropriate if you have a big appetite or are in a large party. I would definitely come back.
This was a very nice place for breakfast. Great coffee. A great selection of pastries and a great feel to it. A local, affordable restaurant that makes great food, has friendly staff, and popular in the area. Would 100% come back here again, I loved it. I had the Croissant and a Chocolate Croissant. Their freshly squeezed Orange Juice was a very nice addition.
Good food and lovely atmosphere. We ordered the black pudding and shrimps according to the highly recommended dishes in yelp. And they are amazing. We also looked around food on other tables. They also looked good. But it is a pity that we went there with half-full stomach so we couldn't have more. Beer was recommended by the waiter and was also pretty good. Thanks yelp, we could order by pointing at the pictures since we didn't speak Spanish. It helped a lot.
Tea time in Barcelona is taken very seriously. Elisabets is the perfect place for this important indulgence. I sat next to a man who was eating the most delicious looking pastry and indicated to the server that I would like to have what he's having. She returned 3 minutes later to inform me that that particular pastry was 86ed for the day but not to worry, she would bring me something that she guaranteed I would enjoy...and was she ever right! (see pic)....very good coffee at Elisabets as well.
I normally don't do reviews on yelp. But this restaurant deserves an AWESOME review. We had Bombas (meatball), calamari, poncho moruno (spicy meat skewer), boquerones with vinegar, and croquettes. We only stopped here to grab a pre dinner quick bite. Ordered the first three things, but since everything is so delicious we ordered more. There wasn't an English menu but we managed to order with the help from other yelpers. We also came relatively early since we have dinner later, they are only serving tapas, I think they have more formal dinner entrees later. Now I'm pretty full, have to walk it off before dinner! Haha! highly recommended! Must try if u are in the area.
I get the feeling that this is the local version of an old school diner. We came at an odd hour for lunch (noon) according to local habits, so we did not have to wait at all. Our server didn't speak English, the menus were not in English, but that is part of the charm and you get by. I had the Madrileno, which was a calamari sandwich with some mayo. Simple , hearty and hit the spot. The calamari was tender and the bread was good. Nothing to complain about for under 5EU! For those with more of an appetite, check out their 3 course set lunches for 13.95EU. read more

100% would recommend! It's close to the market, which is a bit overpriced, but this place is the best! Try the Callos (tripe) and ask for bread, you will not regret it! The patatas are also good and the calamari is so tender (I don't even like calamari!) I'm visiting Barcelona for a few months with my fiancé and this is definitely one of favorite spots for lunch. The food is sublime and the two different servers have been very kind. The prices are reasonable too, one of my favorites is the Bocadillo Jamon Iberico at 4.95 €. It is a fantastic price for the size of the sandwich and the flavor is just the perfect amount of spicy. Definitely recommend checking this place out. Be mindful that it is quite popular with only two tables outside. Happy eating! read more

Good food and lovely atmosphere. We ordered the black pudding and shrimps according to the highly recommended dishes in yelp. And they are amazing. We also looked around food on other tables. They also looked good. But it is a pity that we went there with half-full stomach so we couldn't have more. Beer was recommended by the waiter and was also pretty good. Thanks yelp, we could order by pointing at the pictures since we didn't speak Spanish. It helped a lot. read more

Everything I was looking for in a Spanish bar. Tons of locals, lots of Spanish tapas done in a regional style -- the boquerones (anchovies) in vinegar was certainly new--and downright cheap. In addition to the anchovies, we had the mix plate of Iberian hams, the mushrooms in garlic and oil, patatas bravas, and a bocadillo of lomo (pork), Roquefort, and Pyrenee sauce (tomato and olive oil). The only downside were the olives; they were too sour and not what we were in the mood for. read more

We were looking for a place close to our hotel to have lunch when we found this restaurant. Not a fancy place but clean and it felt good. First they didn't seem to want tourist, it is a place where locals eat . They asked if we had reservations and we said no , of course could not understand why they needed reseservations because it had a lot of empty seats but they found a place for us and we are very glad they did. After a little while we understood why they asked about the reservations is because single ladies and men , couples and larger group of locals were coming in right after us. They had a fixed menu for lunch on Saturday , priced very inexpensive compare to the other restaurants we had visited in the area. First plate we had a garbanzo soup It was delicious , second plate we had I think is called Codillo de cerdo (ham hock or pork knuckle) which I had never had they way they prepared it , also amazing and for dessert I had flan and my husband had a apple pie (the entire meal seem to be homemade) , the meal was served with bread , wine or beer . I had the house wine which was very good and my husband had a very nice Spanish beer. The lady who served us was very efficient , proffessional and when my husband said he wanted to see the menu for tapas she told him , you are getting too much food I dont think you can eat all of that unless you are very hungry. We laughed she saunded like a grandmother more than a server. I will recommend this place and will go back if we are ever in that area again I am sorry we found it one day before our departure. read more

I used to live a two minute walk from elisabets, and now that I've left Barcelona, I've started to get food dreams about this place. It's a little disorganized to get seated and it doesn't really try to cater to tourists, but you've gotta step out of your comfort zone!! If you're willing to try your best to speak to them Spanish, they're happy to help you out. I love the bravas, pincho de tortilla, pimientos del padrón, pan amb tomate, croquetas... I could go on forever. They really nail the basics here, and if you go to elisabets enough, they'll start to remember you!!! Unless you're a tourist and want to try out the sangria, I don't think it's a necessity here. Same goes with the jamón and manchego, but I was never a huge fan of jamon anyway. Also, the 17€/person tapas tasting is a total tourist scam, but I've seen the spread and it looks delicious, so you do you. Enjoy your vacation and spend that money if you've got it. Authentic and casual type of place. Had a menú del día for 10.95€. OK but not great. Simple hearty food. For starter I had a white bean pot with chorizo - best part of meal. For main I head grilled fish with fries. Fish was tender but too salty and the fries were very hard. And for desert I had a cream cake. The cream was just like store-bought whipped cream. No cards, cash only. read more
