don't bother coming to this bar unless you want the bartenders stealing from you an not being sanitary. I came here on 2 different occasions the first time Jeff was the bartender he was pretty chill at first. our group ordered a couple rounds and probably already there for at least 2 hr. Jeff repeatedly was taking shots and going outside smoking not washing his hands, and using the bathroom a lot and who knows if he was washing his hands. He was barely paying attention to the customers and was pretty drunk. I'm all for the fun but you're working dude serving customers and you're drunk behind the bar NOT a good look. Our group was completely turned off by that and the not washing his hands is gross. The second occasion was Bridgett she was very welcoming and really nice at first but after an hour of being there she was in and out the bathroom like 4 times. She looked high and another bartender that cares more about drinking than serving customers. But here's the kicker I went with a few friends it was a total of 4 of us. The prices and menu is written down on the walls. We asked for 4 coronas and ask me if I wanted to pay now or keep my tab open which we did leave open because we didn't know if we where having more then one drink ea. After having our first round we decided to pay our tab because she was being sloppy behind the bar. I told her I want to close my tab and handed her a $50 bill, when she gave me change it was only $10 back. I told her hey you gave the incorrect change back we only had 4 coronas. she said no it's right. I told coronas are not $10ea it's written on the wall $6 imported bottle beers. I can tell she was drunk and probably on drugs. she kept trying to argue with me over my money. over charging customers is wild. Will never come to this place again. Bartenders are drunk an doing drugs and stealing from there customers. Whoever hired these two should fire them they suck. read more

After a holiday lunch, we stopped here for a drink. It has been a long time since I stopped at a dive bar. I really enjoyed myself. There seemed to be few changes in this type of bar, but many things are just how I remember them The most significant change to me was the jukebox that connects to the internet so you can play any music you want. You can put extra money in and your selection will move to the top of the playlist. What hasn't changed are friendly people. The evening we were there some guy brought his new puppy. The bartender danced, to a song I had selected, with the woman sitting next to me. In the backroom, he put out pies he had bought for the holiday. People were friendly and talked to me. This is the kind of place you walk into where you don't need friends to make ones. It's on Park St., which has tons of bars, but the ambiance is not loud or reckless or a pick-up-joint. It's clearly been a part of Alameda for decades on end. I grew up in Alameda but left before I was old enough to legally drink and this bar is Alameda, but an Alameda from the past. I expect to run into a distant cousin or someone who knew my parents here. It feels like a place I could sit at for hours and not be bothered nor feel lonely. I watch sports, I eat food, I think my thoughts and then I pay my tab and go home. At faster bars their's less seating and pressure from the staff to upsell, creating an environment where Im not comfortable with lingering. But everyone lingers at bars-otherwise a liquor store makes more sense if your only goal is to drink. People linger at the bar so they don't have to be alone at home. They linger until the game ends or last call. And for me, this is the place I would do it. read more

Good drinks. Good people. Exceptionally well-maintained restrooms. I have had mostly good experiences. Now to the not-so-good part. Over the past few months, I have been to the Clubhouse a few times, and (almost) everytime I have ordered the same exact drink during "Happy Hour". But depending on who the barkeep is, I have been charged $6, $7 or $8. Last time I came here I was charged $8 during Happy Hour. {The $8 bill (verbal) was always and only by the same barkeep} When I asked the bartender (lets call them X), X insisted that they charged the right price. When I expressed my dis-satisfaction and asked for a receipt, they told me that this bar is for "regulars" and they don't give out receipts in general. And that if I wanted a receipt, I should ask for one. So I told X "Yes. I am officially asking for a receipt. Please give me one." Even after this exchange, X did not give me an actual receipt, but gave me a hand-written note of what they thought the breakdown was supposed to be. X never apologized or said they were sorry, but instead, X went on the offensive and accused me of being a trouble-maker and came with a story of how I was complaining earlier about an Apple martini to Cocoa (the owner?.. whom, I don't think I have met yet.) Clearly, someone is losing money here. Either it is me or the owners. Also, am I even welcome here? Who is welcome here? This bothered me so much that I left the bar and then I called again a few hours later, asking to talk to management. The bartender then, lets call him D --- He was polite, said that he was sorry and apologized for my troubles ... I'm not a drinker, but my friend and I came here with an Alameda local and it was just a welcoming bar with a good atmosphere. Our friend ordered us Jello shots (he then donated mine after remembering I don't drink) and then the fun (for me, at least) really began. Karaoke! I hadn't done Karaoke in a decade, but hearing all the other folks taking turns belting out tunes had us wanting to join in. The Club House has been an Alameda staple for decades and it will continue to be so.. the only Navy bar left that opens at 6am, which is important to industry people like me. I love that they have several large flat screens to watch any of your desired ball games, a juke box that has all the hits, an outside patio with horse shoes and corn-hole for people to play and socialize while having a smoke, drink or cigar on beautiful days. What a breath of fresh air the clubhouse is. Great service abounds and they have a charming back patio that is an oasis in the middle of the city. The Friday night bartender here really likes couples. She will encourage you to make out while she tells you stories of how her old man and she passed the "lovey dovey" stage of their relationship years ago and now feign headaches and old age to get out of doing more than getting rip roaring drunk. She also, made obvious by the strength of her pours, highly encourages the rip roaring drunk part. I assume the clientele would have it no other way, as most of them seem to be chasing the dream of perpetual inebriation. The space is large enough to fit a bar and the various lotto machines they house, has plenty of Raiders memorabilia, lights that are way too bright for the damage the drinks are about to do, and bartenders who ask your name and strike up conversation as if scouting for new recruits. Oh, and they open at 6AM, so if you are in the market to lose yourself to the bottle it would appear this place can be quite accommodating. read more

We had a CRAZY night here last night. After work we hit Lucky 13 for a beer. Soon we were hungry so two out of five of us went to Tomatinas and brought back 2 pizzas to Lucky 13. After the pizza was demolished, we decided to try the Club House for the first time. At the Club we ordered a pitcher of Sierra Nevada and it was a HUGE pitcher. I think we got 5 pints out of it. I got to talking to a local sitting next to me at the bar and after awhile he asked if I would drink a shot with him. We each had a shot of Jameson's, my choice. After that he asked if I would do another with him, his choice this time was JD. I then moved a bar stool away from him to rejoin my friends conversation. A little while after that, I saw the man I was talking to fall like a tree off of his bar stool and onto the floor between the bar and some sort of Karaoke machine or something. Patrons gasped and someone rolled him over as the bartender screamed not to move him. Too late! There was a puddle of blood where he fell. My friend Josh yelled, let's get out of here. We left our partially consumed beverages at the bar and fled on foot. On the way back to the car we saw fire engines pulling up to the bar. We knew he was in good hands. We all scattered to our three separate homes left to independently wonder what ultimately happened to John. I am about to call the bar to find out. I'll update this if I find out any information. If nothing else, we pledge to return to the Club House for another trip hopefully with less drama. There you have it! They don't call it the Club for nothing! UPDATE: Called the daytime bartender who happened to be the other person he was talking to last night to his left so she was there when John fell. She said she usually sees or hears from him every day but had heard nothing from him yet today. She guesses he is nursing a pretty bad headache and probably has 2 black eyes and some stitches. I told her I would be in contact again to get a further update either on the phone or in person. If I hear more, I will post it here. read more

Ah yea. As a peninsula transplant I was despondent. Thinking that there were no dives nearby that opened at the obligatory 6 AM. Boy was I wrong. After some intense internet research I found this little dicey slice of heaven. The American dive bar is officially on the endangered list. Should be federally protected. Well lets get to the meat & potatoes. Decent beverage selection. Only Bud & Sierra Nevada on tap. But it's a dive. Parking is curbside & if you get here around 9 am or later you'll have to feed a meter. The morning weekday crowd is your typical hardcore crusties (not me!). They do have that fancy internet WiFi thing. Password is "clubhouse". Nice online jukebox. No food except for chips. Bathroom is a bit nasty. Bring some sanitizer wipes and a gallon of bleach. But they proved years ago that you can't get the VD (STD) from a toilet seat. Three TV's going non stop. As usual with the dive bar there is a critical lack of chicks. Well ones that don't belong in an institution or a nursing home, or prison. But that's OK. It's a dive for the love of God! Cool back yard outside area.
