So let me begin by saying that I went to the art show/local performance this past Thursday and had a GREAT time. Both performers were really good, and the vibe was nice. The beer on tap was decent as well. However, when I went THE NEXT NIGHT (Friday/yesterday) I showed up with my friend and got carded by a teeny bopper security guard named Kevin. He took my ID inside to "further examine", and came back with his minion Steve in tow saying I had to leave because it was a fake and if I didn't like it then call the police. OBVIOUSLY MY ID LOOKS DIFFERENT BECAUSE I AM FROM MISSISSIPPI. So I understand the hesitation - However, BURLINGTON IS A SANCTUARY CITY. YOURE GOING TO IDS FROM PLACES WAAYYYY FARTHER AND THAT HAVE BEEN THROUGH WAY MORE THAN MINE. As migrants, we should not be subjected to the humiliation of standing in front of the club with police in full garb because you don't know how to look at IDs from places other than Vermont. At any rate, I digress. I proceeded to call the non emergency line for the police to validate my very real ID. They validated it via phone, so the bouncers handed my ID back but said I still wasn't welcome to come inside. I asked the police to come in person. While waiting for his arrival 7 different people passed with nothing more than a fist bump. The police finally arrived, and said that he was "too busy" to run my ID and even if it's valid they didn't have to let me in. After visiting a more worthy bar, my friend and I attempted to go back to Metronome to give it another try. This time, Xavier very rudely told us, "You already tried earlier. Leave." I spoke with Officer Ross who was standing in front of Metronome while on patrol. He agreed to call in and validate my ID. Once he did, he walked in and told Kevin, Steve, and Xavier that it is indeed real. I WAS STILL DENIED ENTRY. The police reiterated that they cannot force them to let me in. At this point, it was no longer about entry (the place has 25 people on a good night). It was ALL about the principle. I felt that this act was discriminatory, so I asked for the reasons my ID was singled out. The bouncers mumbled half responses about the fact that it was issued in 2015 and had a peeling layer. KEEP IN MIND: IT'S AN ID THAT EXPIRES EVERY FOUR YEARS. IF IT WAS ISSUED IN AUGUST OF 2015, IT WOULD EXPIRE IN AUGUST OF 2019. A four year old ID will not look brand new. In the end, the Sargent from the PD came. He was extremely respectful and heard my point. Ultimately, I don't really care that I couldn't enter this sorry excuse for a club. The real issue is that I didn't want anyone else who moved to Vermont seeking asylum from WHATEVER to be subjected to the same treatment. It's unacceptable. Ultimately, if you're going to scrutinize that hard then you should have UV lights and scanners or other unbiased methods to check identification. Having some bouncer who isn't even old enough to drink judging IDs off of his (lack of) worldly knowledge is not going to cut it in 2019 or beyond. Most people would say, "I'm never going back." But I'm saying quite the contrary. I'm showing up every single week with the same ID until it expires. If you'd like to play that game every Friday Metronome, we can. If not, I look forward to enjoying my time with the rest of the Vermonters, and especially the migrants. Think twice before acting on bias the next time. read more

Excessively over served my friend, then proceeded to call me a shitty friend when trying to get out and contact an Uber or ride. Called me liars for having a ride on the phone before kicking me outside without my jacket at -25 wind chill, had to have a stranger off the street pay cover to go in and get my jacket. Will not be returning and letting all my UVM/St. Michael's/ CCV friends know to never go to this bar. read more

I used to love this bar until tonight when my friend and I payed for a 5 cover charge to get in and friendly waited to get served a drink and found out they wouldn't serve my girl friend because of her lazy eye after already just getting in; after we had just walked in. Clearly we were not drunk or not making any bad situations. The bar tenders said they could not serve her. And we were at a lost of words ... as we were confused why?!? We are locals that come to the bar on occasions, and do not deserve to get treated with this disrespect! We were all standing politely at the bar waiting for a drink. And for the bar tenders to tell us she was not able to get served was a fucking joke. I will never put any of my money into this bar. Therefore you will probably lose a bunch of customers 'aka friends' that will not come back. Maybe you should retrain your staff. Good luck! read more

Kind of smelly. Decent acoustics. Got in for free, that was a plus. It's a pretty cool spot, I just got a weird vibe being here. The stage is small, but big enough for 3-4 people with a drum set, so not so bad. There are couches which is a plus. There is food, which I think is cool. I didn't have any but when you're drinking your brains out listening to guy on a banjo, you may want some french fries. Who knows read more

Saw Vundabar here last night upstairs. The venue is cozy and intimate and the drinks are fairly priced. I'm so sad to read the other reviews regarding the bouncers and such. I had a great experience with all the employees and security let us get away with things (within reason) that would never fly in Boston. The decor has improved a bit in recent years, but not much. They no longer serve beer on tap, it's bottles only, a real disadvantage for a town with so many great microbrews. The ladies room often gets over-used to the point that it gets gross. It's not my favorite venue for live music (Nectar's downstairs is better), but they sometimes get a band worth paying to see, just be sure to bring ear plugs. It's just not my scene....so I'm trying not to let that bias my review too much. You'll meet a colorful crowd here on some nights. It gets busy but the staff is well equipped to deal with it. I've never seen anything too outrageous happen here. I've been here when it's nearly empty and when it's packed to the rafters. The DJ is usually pretty engaging and having fun with the people in the club. I've never felt "unsafe" here, even when I'm alone...some of the bars in Burlington I have felt uncomfortable as a young woman alone. I'm not sure if this place has always been owned by Nectar's downstairs but it definitely is now. Saturday night = retronome, also known as 80s night. Show up at 11pm, get in line, and watch drunk people fall down the stairs. Hey, isn't that your friend? Sunday night = well, it USED to be Sunday Night Mass aka jungle/techno/dnb/whatever the dj was spinning that night. There used to be a hardcore group that came every week. The place was incredibly dead except for maybe 20 people. The bar is big with a decent selection of liquor & beer. Nectar's is downstairs if you get the munchies. read more

Metronome is known for their dance club nights, and with that type of programming, it's often loud and overcrowded. But it's one of the most fun places to be on a fri or sat night. And on off nights, it's a great room for acoustic music, local bands, etc. The staff is top notch and the drinks are pretty cheap. read more

Enter Metronome and you will leave Vermont. The absolutly worst place in Burlington hands down. Hot headed staff and no air conditioning. Why anyone would go here is beyond me. Decided to check out Club M to get some Dave in after many months away- Thursday night- shitty music- get to the top of the stairs and bouncer holds up 5 fingers- $5 cover - then suddenly says $10. Are you f'ing kidding me? You seriously trying to pull this scam with me?? Grabbed my $15 (for 3 of us) out of his hand and off we go. Gave the $10 he tried to scam me out of to the homeless couple on the block. So disappointed in this BTV institution, expected much better. This place was as dead as a doorknob (I don't really know what that means, but I'm sticking to it) on Tuesday. I heard the music upstairs was terrible and the DJ refused to play any Top 40 by popular request. Shouldn't he be catering to the crowd especially if they make up the majority and are keeping your business afloat with drink purchases on a weekday night? He must not care because he is getting paid in pizza slices from Junior's down the street. Anyway, came here one other time for 80s night, which was fun for a while until I realized that this place does not have air conditioning and I was actually dancing in a sweat lodge. We went here for 90s night. It was fun.....but the dj started to repeat songs or only play a minute before seguing to the next one. Annoying. There was also some weird confusion about which stamps would allow us onto the dance floor. They were kind of jerks about it and wanted us to pay again, but we put up a stink and got through. After years of living in Vermont we finally decided to give the "the best nightclub in Burlington" a try. We were completely disappointed. This doesn't surprise me as most things in Vermont leave much to be desired. In any case the music mix sucked, the clientele was quite literally a bunch of morons or drugged out junkies and There is no place to sit or put your coat. The place is dark and smelled like a@@ and feet. If this is the best that the Vermont nightscene has to offer, i say Stay home. You're not missing anything. Plus you won't feel the need to de-louse yourself immediately afterwards. read more

I finally went into this place after going to school in burlington for 4 years and then being away for another 4. My first and only time was for 80's night this past weekend. I always scoffed at the $5 cover charge, but it might actually be worth it. It is absolutely the busiest i have seen a bar in burlington excluding st pattys and new years. The crowd is a lot of fun and everyone is pretty excited to be there. I cant speak to the decor as it is pretty dark, but the place is pretty large and packed. If you are looking for a place to have a semi reasonable drink and can swallow the cover change this is definitely a place you can go to dance. read more

really upsetting experience, honestly. this is a club, good reputation, who would bring a fake id here? my friend and I, both of age, tried to go to a themed night here. the bouncer bent her ID an insane amount and told us it was not real. when she asked to scan the ID, they refused. the bouncer then asked her fellow bouncer to validate, who told us, "this is not real, you're not getting it back. go get the cops, this is not real." he would not give us the ID back. we went to look for the cops where he told us we would find them. they were not there. this obviously put a damper on our night. why would you not just scan the ID? we went back because my friend needed the ID; it's literally her driver's license. we asked what to do because it seemed insane to call 911. they finally agreed they would call the number on the ID to validate it. they did and we got the ID back. The staff were neither apologetic or polite. We don't understand why they wouldn't just have a scanner to scan IDs and avoid this whole issue. Really rude experience. Won't be going back. read more
