It's an old building and that's very cool but it's spread out weird so being able to dance or see the music is iffy and if you go upstairs to dance, the sound is not so good. Free bottles of cold water and announcing license plates rather than have cars towed was very nice. They allowed re entry for the people who had to move their cars. The pizza was tasty! We enjoy happy hour at the Pickle. Bartenders are friendly and attentive. We enjoy listening to and occasionally dance to Jenny and the Bets as well as Jamie's Junk Show. They are both great entertainers. You can find them at other Killington night spots as well. We aren't big on their pizzas but if you need to eat before or while drinking, it hits the spot. The late-night shows are for the younger crowd. We hit the sack early to be ready to ski the next day. read more

Horrible bus service - I shouldn't complain- it's free right? On the way there they drove by us the first time for when we scheduled. They picked us up 15 minutes later. We tipped them $20. On the way home we tipped the rest of the cash that we had, which was $5. The bus driver started driving away, stopped the vehicle and got out yelling at us that we didn't tip enough. (I am sorry that your company does not pay you enough, but please do not advertise a free shuttle if it is not "free") 2. Horrible, HOMOPHOBIC bouncers - they kick people out for no reason. My friend was demanded to leave the bar by a large, bearded bouncer because he "was seen running his hand through another man's hair". The guy was not drunk. When asked, the bouncer lied and said he saw my friend stumble toward the bathroom. The man did not stumble toward the bathroom. The bouncer's boss, "Jack" didn't help, and just said "we close soon anyway, why don't you just leave now". It's unfortunate because the bar itself, the bartenders, coat check, live music, other patrons, etc, were all great. 5/5 a great night until the end. Been going to killington to ski Super Bowl weekend for years with my friends as it is an annual trip we do. We've gone to the pickle barrel probably three to four times over the last few years. EVERY time we are there they are constantly trying to sneak drinks onto your table when you pay at the end of the night. I know this is true because they are very quick to try to take the drinks off if you put up some resistance. Once I bought a two drinks and paid cash, only had a 50$ bill on me. The bartender gave me 15$ back in change. I almost didn't realize it but then I asked "wait how much was this" and the guy quickly seemed to know exactly how much more money to get out of the register. There are some shady tactics they use to try to steal from tourists so be aware!!! Other than that this is a fun place and worth the cover, just not the scams. read more

RUN AWAY AS FAR AS YOU CAN FROM PICKLE BARREL. UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE SHIT ON. Literally. We sat at a table on Saturday night under a leaky pipe until we realized the pipe that was leaking was what was being flushed out of the toilets. We only realized it wasn't just water because it really started to smell after a while. That's right, we were getting leaked on with everyone's urine and feces. Into our drinks, on our clothes, in our hair. We filed a complaint immediately with the manager. He took me away from other patrons to explain that it was in fact water being flushed from the toilets, and that he's been asking the owner to fix it for weeks. He gave me my money back and told me to "go home and take a hot shower." HOW ARE YOU STILL OPEN IF THERE IS LITERAL SHIT FALLING FROM THE CEILING? People were eating, drinking all around it. I told the manager he needed to block the area off immediately. But, we went back a few hours later just to check what the manager did, and people are STILL standing around, drinking, eating right under this shit storm falling from the ceiling. At this point, there are literally PUDDLES of poop everywhere. And everyone is hanging out having a grand ole time. I have a strange feeling there's a reason why this bar only gives out "bottled water" when you ask for H20. Also, for those who don't mind a little feces, you'll pay a $20 cover. I'm sorry, but you're not that cool. I live in Boston and have never paid that much to get into a bar. Went here after dinner Saturday night and was looking to just have a drink w my friend. It was 8pm and they have this strange thing where they kick everyone out at 830 to prep the place up again for the rest of the night. The place was packed and it really ruins the mood having to stop partyin while youre really getting into it. Anyways, if we were younger we probably would have been upset by it but we were only stayin for a drink. I ordered 2 budlights and a shot of jameson and was looking for my credit card. Took a lil longer than usual when the bartender (older bald short stocky dude) starts yelling $22 dollars over and over again. Give my credit card. Put a $2 tip cuz of his assholeness and jus shrugged it off. Looked this morning and found a $29 charge instead. Check your bills if you were served by this guy. You might have been overcharged. This guy was super aggressive and there was no crazy wait to get drinks so I didnt understand why he was barking at us. Oh boy - what a spot. Was here over the weekend for a ski trip, and this was the first spot on people's lips when we asked around about bars to hit. On Saturday night it had a $20 cover, with 2 live bands playing. The main band ("The Zoo") did covers of everything from Sum 41 (shout out to late 90s/early 00s rock fans) to Bob Marley to Katy Perry to Michael Jackson... some of it was better than others, but they are entertaining as all else. Upstairs is more of a low-key, country-ish band that did country/pop/occasional forage into other genres (shout out to the country version of Usher's "yeah" that they nailed last Sat). Both were COMPLETELY different vibes. Half the fun is the insanely diverse crowd - from chilled out people happy to socialize and relax to plastered kids possibly on other substances, it's all here. The bouncers were super on top of things when it did get rowdy, and the people watching is top-notch. Bonus: Call the "Pickle Roller" for free rides to and from the Pickle Barrel! Definitely a perk in Killington, where uber/lyft isn't exactly easy. In a place where there aren't a ton of options, Pickle Barrel's sure to have something for everyone. read more

Really disappointed with how the "bouncers" treated my group. Very clearly treated and spoke down to the women that were with us, because they were with us. Everyone in my group works at the mountain or in the area and this experience will certainly spread. It's pretty clear by reading the reviews you have an unaddressed issue with who you employee for your security. I highly recommend terminating their employment before they blatantly assault another patron like they did the night we were there or do it to the wrong person. It very clear they have some kind of anger or self-esteem issue and can't handle being professional in their positions. They have no right to lay hands on a patron for not liking who the women in our party were with. Last time I will ever go there and will not be recommended to any of the dozen of our rental units. read more

When we got in the door, we had to show our ids, which is normal, they get frisked down by a wand, then paid a 10 dollar cover. It was a bit over whelming being "greeted" like that. Being 10 degrees out, it was a plus they had a coat check - free but tips strongly encouraged. When we first got in, the band didn't start yet and they had security guards every 5 feet. Seemed like excessive to us, but nice to know they were prepared. Does make you think that the place could get pretty crazy. Like the name suggests-- this place is def. a dude bar. Literally "pickles" everywhere. There was even a line to the men's bathroom, like where and when does that ever happen. There was literally one group of females, that only stayed for the first band set, the rest were groups of guys that were overly into dancing with each other. If I didn't know any better, walking in I would have thought this place was a gay bar. ( which I have no problem or discrimination against) The band was great and in between breaks they play club music as well as a second band upstairs. Overall, my girlfriend and I had a blast!! We stayed there till the bar closed and had a 120 dollar tab. The bartenders remembered what we were drinking the entire night and it was very quick getting service/ refills. Came here for NYE and it was the absolute worst experience possible. The animals that work here are the most unprofessional and arrogant individuals you could ever interact with. They charged $90 for admission just to get inside and they have coat check that fits about 27 coats. They literally thought this was would be sufficient for a NYE party that costs $90 DOLLARS FOR ENTRY. We arrived at 10pm and the coat check was completely full. They advised we find a spot to leave on coats so we did so on a bench. Right around midnight we found a group hovering around and a girl puking on them. We found security and notified them only to be told "don't worry we cut the girl off". Great, that settles that apparently. Once downstairs, the manager told us we should have "kept our jackets on and it wouldn't have happened". There wasn't even an apology. To reiterate, they charge 90 DOLLARS FOR ENTRY. Avoid the Pickle Barrel at all costs. Go to Wobbly Barn where they have actual humans working. read more

Went to this place last year and it was fun but 1) charged an overpriced cover ($20) and 2) refused to take our coats for coat check. A fun place to go out if you are going skiing for the weekend. It's very much a dance atmosphere. Live music is amazing!! There is a balcony that kind of overlooks the dance floor/stage. However, let's talk about the negatives of this place... Because it's one of the only happening places in the area, then can get away with some questionable management choices. For instance, for a $20 cover, you'd think coat check would be free, but NOPE. My friend doesn't drink, and asked for a cup of sprite and they told him it would be $5 for soda... ok well, I think a drink itself is $8 soooo? Water bottles are free so that's a plus. There is a shuttle that will pick you up right in from of the place and take you to various pick-up/ drop-off spots which is a huge convenience because Uber is not really a thing in this area I'll probably come back next time lol read more

I've been telling my friends back home how they need to come up to Killington and go here. What a horrible impression they got this past weekend. We had a group of 9, celebrating a 30th birthday. We arrived around 8:00pm and paid $5 each for a cover charge. About a half hour later, they kicked everyone out to "flip" the bar. They kicked all of us out of the bar, which we just paid to get into... and said we could go outside (in the pouring rain) and come back in 45 minutes and pay a $20 cover charge?! Shady. Why wouldn't you 1) tell us that the bar would be "closing" shortly when we arrived 2) take our money when you'd just be kicking us out a half hour later and charge us more than twice the price? We've paid expensive cover charges in Boston - that's not the issue. It's that they took our money when they very well knew they'd be kicking us out in a half hour to just charge us again. I can't believe this place has just 2.5 stars!! I just came to Killington for the first time to try out the Vermont snow (snowboarding!) this past weekend! We were told about the Pickle Barrel & The Wobbly Barn - the first day we decided to check out JAX and then Pickle Barrel. Needless to say it was a great nice. Pregamed a bit and ate some snacks at JAX, listened to some live music then around 11:30 walked on over to the Pickle Barrel. There was a $15 cover charge but to be honest - completely worth it. I had a blast listening to the awesome band playing some covers. I loved that there were a lot of people dancing/drinking. It was so chill and just so much fun! I wish I wasn't at work right now and just snowboarding and then going out dancing here. read more

Go somewhere else. We looked at the website and saw that "doors open at 8pm" for a cover band. We called their free shuttle, the barrel rider, and after a harrowing ride in the pouring rain, were dropped off at about 8:30. We walked up prepared to pay the ridiculous cover and were told we weren't allowed in because they were "flipping" the bar. The bouncer actually expected us to go back out into the downpour and go somewhere else until they "reopened". After THEIR shuttle had just dropped us off at their door. Basically they kick everyone out (people who had already paid a $5 cover earlier in the evening) so they can "reopen" and charge a $20 cover to re-enter. We asked the bouncer if we could wait in the entry way and he didn't seem happy about it but since it was POURING, we did anyway. Then we watched as all of their customers were kicked out. Soon after a bachelor party of about 15 guys arrived and a manager came out and treated them like kings, told them they didn't have to pay the cover, checked their IDs and stamped their hands. I went down and asked the staff if they knew their website said 8pm and if we'd still have to pay after waiting 45 minutes to get in. The answer was yes and they were all incredibly rude. No one apologized. They acted like we were inconveniencing them by arriving at their bar at 8:30pm on a Saturday night. I've never seen anything like it. Clearly they didn't want our business, so we left. Wobbly Barn didn't charge us a cover, had a great band and a much friendlier staff. read more

When we walked in everything was great; courteous, friendly staff and a great band. Unfortunately, that experience dramatically changed for me when I was asked to leave. I was told I had stumbled and therefore, I must be drunk and needed to leave right now. I tried to explain that someone in my path had their foot out slightly (unintentionally) and I did indeed stumble that once, but asked the bouncer to talk to me and make a judgement based on that. I was respectful when asking for this, but what I got in return were threats. He kept challenging me to fight him outside, I said I'm clearly not a danger to anyone or myself, I'm not slurring, or staggering; I had just been dancing with friends minutes ago, why do you want me to leave? Yet, he just kept on challenging me to fight him outside. I saw that this was going nowhere, and out of futility agreed to leave, but I had about a quarter of my beer left. I raised my beer and as I sipped it he knocked it out of my face and into the air, splashing other guests and the coatroom staff. It was an extremely frustrating and humiliating experience and I will never give the Pickle Barrel another dime of business. I was asking around afterwards, and a local at the mountain told me this type of thing happens all the time with this bouncer. If you look through other reviews on this site and you'll see similar stories; I wish I had. The bouncer who challenged me to a fight fits the description of a guy named Chris George; not sure if its correct, but if the management has a camera by the coat room they can see him slap the beer from my face Saturday about 11:30 (if they care about such matters). Either way I will tell everyone I know to stay far away from the Pickle Barrel, the Wobbly Barn is a great place and none of this BS. read more

The "staff" were pretty annoying with people "leaning" near the rails, but they seemed to forget to yell at any of the attractive girls who did the same thing. It's a 2 start because the bar is pretty fun, large and they don't seem to deal with too big of crowds. Drinks are badly priced. The bartenders made the bar better but the "staff" made the bar worse. I went up to Vermont for the weekend with a few friends and we decided to venture out to Pickle Barrel because 1. they provide a free (tip only) shuttle, 2. they have live bands, and 3. pickles are my favorite food so i love anything with pickle in the name. The shuttle was awesome. We called at around 6 o'clock and they came promptly to our house on the mountain at 9:30. The driver was friendly, and told us that he'd be happy to give us a ride home later but to try to get out a bit before 2 AM to beat the crowds. Once inside, I cringed as I handed over my $20 cover. I know I was warned about this, but I was hopeful that maybe the cover would be less expensive. I'm not really sure why they charge this much -- I've lived in Boston for 4 years and have yet to pay a $20 cover here...so who knows. The bar itself was great. The live band was really amazing and I loved the setup. Downstairs there was a huge dance floor with a bar around the outside. Upstairs there were two more bands and another (quieter) live band. In between sets the DJ played your typical top 40 and I was happy to see lots of people dancing the whole time. The dress was a little bizarre. Some people looked like they were wearing pajamas, others were really dressed up and some had a mixed look, complete with a dressy top and dirty snow boots! My biggest problems with Pickle Barrel were that in addition the expensive cover, the drinks were not cheap. Bud lights were about $6 (plus tip) and although I didn't buy any I heard the mixed drinks and shots were pretty pricey as well. Also, at around 1:30 AM, the bouncers started kicking out random guys throughout the bar. I have no idea why they were doing this (to clear out the bar? to lessen the coat check line? to leave a room full of drunk girls?) but I watched more than a few guys getting dragged out in the last 30 minutes. I went to a concert at pickle barrel with two other people last weekend. We left from my friends place in Massachusetts and it did not take the 2 and a half hours mapquest had claimed. I guess they had not factored in that the last hour of the drive has a speed limit of 25-40mph so take this into account if you're coming from another state. We had several problems with way the venue ran the concert. They had advertised it all over Facebook and their website as starting at 9pm. They did not start until at least 20 minutes after 9 and the main act did not come on until 10:20pm. Normally this wouldn't be a huge problem but this was a Sunday night and people have work the next day! We had to wait in the car for a few hours considering they did not open the doors til 8. So did lots of other people. I know people were getting angry because I kept seeing them walk up to the door and get turned away. Once we got in I actually did like the venue. It was set up in a way that the stage has a small floor in front of it. The back and sides are elevated. There are tables and chairs if you're not into standing at a show. Something I found odd was while the singers were performing, nobody stood on the floor in front of the stage. People just shyly stood in the back. I guess it's better for me because I went up front and it felt like a private show most of the night. Towards the end of the show people let loose and started dancing. It was pretty odd considering we were seeing a musician who did not play anywhere close to dance music. I felt like I was at a country concert with all the line dancing. I was taking a video at the end and some super creepy drunk man came up to me and kept telling me "put your phone down and dance with me" and proceeded to stare me down for the rest of the show. It was a scary experience and I was grateful to have two other people with me. I would definitely hesitate to return to pickle barrel unless an artist I love is playing there. The drive was terrible especially after the show in the dark. Some of the people who hung out there scared me and were clearly not there to see the show and just look for women. I would even hesitate to go there if I were a local. I can only imagine what goes down when everyone is drunk. If it weren't for my bad experience I would have found this venue enjoyable. I think the people who run the place should be a little more courteous and honest about what time the show is actually starting. read more

We had a drink but then realized it was a waste of our time, so we took the shuttle to our hotel and came back at 1015 pm. Whe we came back, they did not charge us cover for the band, and this place was totally rocking! The band really sucked but it didnt matter! We danced and danced, and the music in between sets was actually pretty good! I think its a great place if you get into it... I think there is some kind of rivalry between them and the Wobbly Barn, and I would say do both if you're there more than one night because both are fun, but I think, objectively that Pickle Barn are NICER, and that in and of itself made this night more enjoyable. They were friendly and accomodating and talked to us and made a real effort and I felt it was genuine so that makes for fonder memories in writing this review. And makes for 4 stars. Had I known that the road to this venue was going to be so narrow and hard to drive, I would not have come. The ticket said door at 8 and show at 9pm. No word on a opener. This being a Sunday I figured the show would be over by 10.30pm, with 2 hours of driving then by 1am I should be sleep. Well I should have known from that long stretch of the narrow drive things would not go that well. They did have an opener, the musician who I had gone to see didn't perform till almost 10.30. Then the performers equipment malfunctioned. To top it all this local creep would not leave my daughter and I alone. We were there to hear good music, instead I was worried for our safety. Of course there was no security insight or aware of this local creep being such a nuisance. This place had many levels, but since the crowed was not large they had closed the upstairs. I've been to this musicians performance many times in a lot of other venues, but the crowed at this location was like a very bad dream. read more

In addition to going to a place called the pickle barrel... we were all dressed like the 80's... yeah we're cool. Anyways, I decided to wear my Chive shirt (fellow chivers out there - holla) and I was having the time of my life. They had a live band there that weren't singing just rock songs, but also top 20 songs too which was actually REALLY cool and really fun! The establishment is 2 stories and they have this balcony type area where you can look over and watch the band. When the band needs a break, they lower the lighting and TV system and play the music videos for the songs. It's definitely a pretty awesome, dancey type of place. I ended up having SO much fun. Without the VIP passes, it would have been way more than just 5 bucks to get in here, so I am very thankful for the VIP passes.
