I've been to Burlington a few times but never to the Flynn. I've wanted to visit this theatre ever since I heard about Phish playing a special concert there on 3/18/97. I was in College and Phish was booming in popularity at this time. The Flynn is a small theatre and Phish was playing arenas by '97. At that show Ben & Jerry introduced the band and they opened up with a cover of 'Cinnamon Girl' by Neil Young. I remember listening to this taped show and dreaming about seeing them in this intimate setting. Other notables included Hood and Slave --- what a show! This 1930's "Wonder Theatre" was a state-of-the-art vaudeville and motion picture venue upon it's original inception. It seats 1,439 guests and they typically show concerts, shows and movies. It's right near the start of the public corridor of Church St. or a quick walk to Lake Champlain. Fast forward to 4/19/25. I'm in town for my son to tour UVM and without any prior knowledge I see that moe. is playing that evening at the Flynn-- what luck? Tix's for 2 were around $100. We arrived about 30 minutes before the show. The theatre has unique style -- not like the Capital but cool in it's own way. The staff were super and the crowd had the greatest vibe. Just got back to my hotel from a show at the Flynn. This was my first time there and it was great! Cool, old theater at the end of Church street with excellent, helpful staff. There's a bar that has a few draught beers, canned stuff (including N/A options), wine and snacks. They allow said bevs and snacks in the theater. Seats were pretty comfortable and we really enjoyed our show. I would come back in the future for sure. read more

Flynn is a beautiful venue with comfortable seats and ample amenities. They have a full bar available and you're able to take your drinks into the seating area. Note that the floor isn't as sloped as I would prefer and one of my friends had difficultly seeing over the person in front of her and parking can be a bit problematic, so arrive early. Overall, though, Flynn is a historic landmark in Burlington, worth the visit! Protip: outside food and beverage isn't allowed, so drop your "doggy bag" in your car before checking into the theater. read more

Having teenagers who don't know how to correctly put beer from a tap is a joke. After watching this particular teenager pour the very excessive Foam from my beer the times I asked her to please just put it to the side and let the foam dissipate so that it could be filled to the top. She then went to sink and used a spoon to ladle off the foam and capped the plastic glass with a lid, handing me a beverage 4/5 full. When I asked if she could please fill it to the top I was informed " this is a full pour. She serving size is 12 oz and this is a 14oz glass". Totally load of horse poop. $10 plus tip for a 12 oz. Beer produced less than a mile down the street. Big fail Flynn theater. Big fail. I'll remember to bring my own alcohol next time and not have to be ripped off, thanks read more

I was tested yesterday and then last night received an email that negative tests are no longer accepted. Only vaxxed people can attend. The Flynn is a fantastic, classic venue for seeing all sorts of entertainment. It's a core part of Burlington's thriving community.

I love just knowing the Flynn is there. They draw a lot of interesting shows and every year I find a few that are interesting to me. Going to the Flynn is a treat of sorts in this way. I always have a good time and always leave thinking I should go to the Flynn more often. I don't like the surcharge for buying tickets online and it is not always convenient to go to the box office. I usually buy tickets at the box office, though, because I can select my exact seats. I do like that one can select exact seats online now. This seems to be a new feature or maybe it is only available for certain events but it really makes me wish the surcharge for buying online didn't exist. Other than that, bravo Flynn. You provide a nice evening's worth of entertainment. read more

After seeing the Titanic this past weekend I am a fan. (Keep in mind that this review will ONLY be about the theater and NOT the performance on stage!) So the theater really has that old style feel to it. This is something that I really enjoyed about visiting this past weekend. Its dark, red and a pretty good size! The seats are setup on away that you can see with just about anyone in front of you. Lighting and sound quality for the stage is also pretty good. The ushers at the venue where pretty friendly and helpful. They will point you in the right direction to your seat. My only complaint are the seats...They are way to small. I stand at 6 foot 3 inches tall. So sitting here for anymore than an hour can become unconformable. I think with the the rates of tickets they should be able to get better seating with more room. Other than that the theater is very fun to visit! We look forward to our next visit at the end of May! read more

The Flynn is okay. They often get some pretty cool things to visit Burlington. I definitely like that aspect. It is nice and historic which is also neat. However there are a few points - I must mention: If you purchase tickets for pick up at Will Call you must wait in this amazing line at the time of the event. The line is often a disaster. There are some octogenarians attempting to guide the people in line, but most of theses octogenarian guides seem lost and confused themselves... Perplexed at the line and as to why it happens; like they have never seen it do this before. Yet every time I visit I stand in this line - I expect it. As much as I enjoy the curious looks on the confused faces of these cute guides, the Will Call problem could be fixed by having more windows open for pickup. I went to the David Sedaris show and they only had two windows open. The show had to be delayed because of this line. If they planned in advance for the amount of people picking up at Will Call, things would go much easier. Once inside the seats are comfortable and the flow of people seems to work well, but the acoustics are muddled. I have been to over a dozen shows here in the past few years and every one has an echoey mud sound to it. What a shame in such a cool space. I have found that seats near the front center of the balcony sound best for orchestra performances. And seats on the bottom left and right sound best for spoken performances, like Garrison Keillor Because of the strange sound I always check out what the ceiling looks like. It's huge and full of stained tiles. Is there a water problem up there? Mold perhaps? What's happening up there? Why are those tiles still there? The staff always seem so concerned and over taxed, even though there are dozens of them. What are they all doing? Why are so many of them people's grandparents? Don't be so concerned. The Flynn is not a big deal. It's fine. Don't worry. It's all so unknown, except for the line thing. Go to the Flynn. It is cheap and always an experience regardless of what the event is. read more

The Flynn sucks. Saw Aaron Lewis tonight but this review includes Britt Floyd (2x), Tragically Hip (worst show ever out of 38 shows I've seen...due to Flynn atmosphere), and several other shows over 30 years... I swore it off due to the terrible experiences but friends convinced me to go tonight again... It is just so terrible in so many ways. If I could give it negative stars I would. First, the acoustics are terrible. Second, the usherettes are on a high school assembly power trip and think they are chaperoning an off, off, off, off broadway musical during a jr high recital. Joke. Third, did I mention the acoustics suck? Every band. Every time. Fourth, the whole atmosphere sucks. They book bands that you want to dance to, or at least stand up and respond to, and all of the Flynn-weenies get upset because you are standing up and having fun. Fifth, the Flynn-weenies buy up tickets to see "the arts" and they really do not care for the act. So you end up with a bunch of non-fans that get 75% of the tickets and completely kill the energy and experience. The place just sucks. It should just do high school musicals and bingo or turn it into trendy apartments. read more

Just saw Craig Ferguson at the Flynn. Best comedy show EVER in the most intimate little venue in this cool teeny city. If you have a chance to see a good entertainer here, the Flynn does it right. Craig Ferguson just might be better than Robin Williams. Side splitting. Go to the Flynn!!! read more

First music venue I've ever been to (and I've been to many beautiful classic theaters) that doesn't allow wine/beer in the theater. Additionally, they'll stop you from dancing... ON THE SIDE... at a BLUEGRASS show... claiming it's "too distracting for the audience." If you want a stuffy theater with no energy, this is your spot. read more

Love to see a show or listen to music at the historical Flynn Theater. The Flynnspace downstairs is a casual spot for comedy shows and music as well. Mary Popins came recently for children, but I have seen many shows here. Sometimes the seating and noise level can be a bit off, but the shows outweigh the negatives. Park in a garage for easy in and out of town. read more

Vermont is pretty low on places like the Flynn. It's easy to feel cut off from the rest of the world here. The Flynn brings in performers from outside the state, often world-class performers, so people don't go completely stir crazy. Tickets are not cheap, but it feels like they are competitive with other similar places elsewhere. The main hall is clean and adequate to see performances. Not too big or too small. There is another performance space next door for small performances (usually local ones). read more

I caught a Lucinda Williams show- (maybe 3 years ago) and it was a positive experience. No ticket pick-up confusion as was previously mentioned, maybe because I did not witness octogenarians and always arrive early- not at the last minute. My seats were on the floor, directly down front in the second row- and I am a critical listener and sound was very well balanced, I could hear the vocals fine - and all instruments were overall well balanced. Needless to say- I had excellent sightlines as well. If I wanted to just find something to gripe about ??? (like the other reviews) I had to sit next to the loudest "clapper" at any show I have ever attended. You know the type that insists on being the last man clapping- will not stop until everyone else has long since ceased- but is that the fault of the venue?? - I think not- maybe Vermont just does not have much to do- so people like to Yelp- and gripe!!!! I see a lot of shows- no griping about this place- if people over 80 want a night out- I am all for it - they have earned a place to go. k.b. read more

The Flynn brings some incredible acts to Burlington, no one will deny that. The building itself is lovely, but that's where the compliments stop. Tickets are super overpriced, especially for an organization claiming to be nonprofit, and especially considering that unless you are a member, you will be getting terrible seats because the members get to buy first, months in advance. Their system of selling tickets is antiquated and frustrating, I can only imagine more so for their members who must fill out paper order forms to get their member discounted early tickets. For the rest of us, there is the option to buy online with exorbitant fees or attempt to call or go to the box office, where the very sweet but untrained box office staff will be completely confused by any interaction that is not extremely straight forward. You will not be able to get folks on the phone in a timely fashion, ever, and when you do, the answer that person gives you is in all likelihood, dead wrong. Their website is atrocious and flashy and difficult to navigate. It is becoming increasingly difficult for local theater to to try and do shows with them because of the expense. I would guess that this huge money suck comes largely from the worst kinds of inefficiency and the reliance on thinking they don't have to try because of the intrinsic value of arts.
