I had been wanting to start a new fitness regimen and pilates seemed like a great idea. After going home and googling "pilates reformer", I decided to give it a try! If you have never taken a reformer class, you are required to complete an initial consultation series. Essentially, you get four hour long private lessons to teach you the basic movements on the reformer. How neat! Many movements feel extremely awkward at first...one word: leg straps. Ha! After practice the movements start to feel more natural. I was so thankful for my consultation series. I felt like I knew all the movements, and was ready for my first group reformer class. While I was nervous, the instructor made an effort to pay special attention to me and to remind me of all the moves. This was easy for her, because each class has a maximum of seven students, limited by the number of reformers available. While the first class was difficult, (I totally got schooled by a woman probably 30 yrs older than me...embarrassing!!) I feel like I've gotten much better with every class. I feel stronger already! The instructors have been nothing but nice, and I've enjoyed every class I've taken so far. Each instructor teaches the class differently, which I enjoy. Reformer classes are great for people of all ages and abilities, and especially for those with injuries. The instructors always make sure to ask before class if anyone has injuries and make sure to remind students of the modified moves they can do. Pendleton has four locations- Hyde Park, Loveland, Downtown, and West Chester. Each studio offers a variety of classes including mat classes, ball classes, and a new jump board class. They offer classes at many different times making it easy to find time to attend a class. Pendleton also offers a teaching certification program through Balanced Body- the maker of the Pilates reformer machines they use. It is one of the most comprehensive in the area. Is teaching in the future for me? Perhaps... although I'm still trying to get used to those leg straps! Ha! I love Pendleton and would highly recommend it to anyone interested in pilates!

I went to five Saturday morning mat classes, which I really enjoyed. The instructor was different each week (I think I ended up experiencing three different ones) which I didn't mind, but I'd think some people might. Each instructor ran class a little differently - again, I liked this but you might not. Each one was also very effective at giving instruction and helping the participants work through the bizarre exercises you do in Pilates. Aside from the mat classes that my Groupon was good for, they also have "Reformer" classes - not that I'm sure what that means exactly. I think the Reformer is some Pilates apparatus, but I got the impression that the clients who take those classes do like them. In fact, there's a lot of positive energy at Pendleton Pilates in general ... always a good thing when you've dragged your butt out of bed to work out on a Saturday morning! One other thing I really like is their web site. They provide plenty of useful information about Pilates and all of their locations, and they even have a WebScheduler. I really appreciate this feature - you can see when the classes will be held and who will be teaching them, reserve a space in a class, and look up your class history and appointments all in one place. Very handy! The only downside is that now that I've used up my Groupon, I won't be able to afford to go every week. A 10-session pass for the mat class is $100 (individual passes are $12), which I believe you can split into two payments. I intend to go back, just not every week unfortunately. I'm a very frustrated parent…read more We've been coming to this gym for years, and it's been my son's favorite place to play basketball and see his friends. Recently, the club manager scheduled a meeting to discuss his behavior. During that meeting, several serious allegations were presented, only for me to later learn that my son was not even present for some of the incidents referenced. Despite this, he was suspended. When I followed up to contest the decision, it was acknowledged that he was not involved in some of the allegations. However, there was no apology or correction, and the suspension was still upheld based on an incident that occurred approximately six weeks ago. I'm sharing this because I would encourage other parents in similar situations to ask questions and seek additional context, as it felt like my son's perspective was not fully considered. My concern is not with accountability, but with fairness, accuracy, and how the process was handled. Unfortunately, this experience has been very disappointing for our family.

I was introduced to Clear by Steph B and two others from Yelp/Twitter. They knew I liked working…read moreout and suggested I come to Clear. As luck would have it, I won a 5-class pass from a Clear contest (I like contests and free stuff). I decided to check out a MOVE class without telling any of these friends because I wanted to experience my first class as if I was a new student. It was great! I love that the studio is small and mirror-less. There are ballet barres on each side and Annie, the owner, provides doubled up yoga mats, which you use for kneeling and lying on to do repetitive leg movements. But if you want to bring your own mat, go for it! Her music is a spot-on reflection of her personality and Amy B is right, she curses but you're doing it under your breath ;) In terms of cuing, she always reminds you when to point and flex your foot, which matters and if you want the details, ask her after class. With room for 4-5 students in the studio, you won't be able to cheat yourself and give up on the moves. You'll leave the hour class sweaty and pumped that you used all those little accessory muscles. Clear also offers restorative yoga, which is yoga at a slower pace and you hold the moves longer so you do actually work to keep the poses, but it is great for runners or those who have workouts that a little harder on the body. I had a great TRX class in which Paige tailored the moves to each of in the class since we weren't all at the same level of use. She also did a great job of telling us which body parts were working, how to move through and want postures to maintain (if no one tells you, you need a maintain a strong core). Clear is a small, but mighty studio that offers a variety of classes in a very welcoming tone, where the students come to know each other by name.

What I got was an amazingly small class with a super energetic instructor and an intense workout. Heads up: Annie is a lot of fun and is totally herself... complete with potty mouth. She says those curse words that you're thinking during that last leg lift at the end of your 6th set when every muscle is shaking. Maybe don't bring your Grandma unless Gram is down with the unfiltered expressions. Parking is metered on street, and there was plenty when I went after 6pm. The door to the class is accessed through the gym on the corner. Just head on in and hang out until Annie comes to welcome you into the studio. The studio only holds about 4ish students comfortably so you get a very personalized experience! The MOVE class I attended worked our butts and guts and the fun music mixed with Annie's commentary made the whole experience incredibly enjoyable! I felt muscles I didn't even know existed and will definitely be back to get those newly discovered muscles into shape!

Pendleton Pilates is an amazing place to get a full body workout with no pressure, or physique credentials!! There is a full spectrum of body sizes, athletic ability, and body versatility and everyone is comfortable! You workout at your own pace and making sure that you use the correct form and pay attention to your body. The classes are small 4-8 people, which means that you get a pseudo individualized training. I guess that is why it's so damn expensive, but recently i had a realization that your health comes first, and then your money - once the healthy goes, the money won't make you happy. However, I still struggle shelling out $255/mo for an unlimited month package; which is much better than 10 Group Sessions: $230, 20 Group Sessions: $420, or especially 30 Group Sessions: $540!! Yikes!! So in order to sleep at night, I get the unlimited month package, which motivates me to go to as many classes as I can, so I can pay less per class. And that really works!! Sometimes I'm tired or just too darn lazy, but paying less is definitely an incentive to get in there and get my workout/money's worth! So if your not big into working out or don't like the big gym feel, I recommend Pilates Reformer.. In other cities, people would choose a professional studio with more experienced instructors and non predatory billing practices. If you live in Cincinnati, find online instructors. Trust me.
