As a general rule, I like to sweat. I'm of the midwestern German/Jewish/British bloodline so my veins are pretty heated, thus when I get moving, I'm a faucet, it's disgusting, honestly. If you're anywhere near my proximity when I'm dripping, stay away. I'm like a garden hose under thunderous pressure, hurling my droplets upon unsuspecting passers by. I should also preface this with the admission that I enjoyed an introduction to Pilates from a friend/associate/trainer who offered to show me the ropes, springs and stands of the art free of charge. I didn't take a class and although the personal training session wasn't leveraged on an agreement to review the venue, I can't claim this was a genuine appointment with the business. Like many of you, I was genuinely curious about Pilates. Years of television commercials offered virtually no clue into the underworld of this fascinating practice, and once I was there, in a facility equipped with the very best, I totally got it. Pilates is the yin in my aging, overburdened yang. I'm about to turn 40, about to hit that Over the Hill mark, and that means I hurt, mysteriously, in places that never hurt before. As we age, we realize that stretching and activating those muscle groups that we ignored for 40 years suddenly matters. Momentum Studio is an excessively clean, dynamic facility decked out with machines that are built to bend you sideways, upwards and out. The contraptions in this place, man, they're genius inventions of wood and coil, pulley and spoke, the kind of thing your nutty neighbor developed in his garage, and they work wonders. One hour of work in here will realign your spine and reset your clock to Zen. Next visit, I'm investigating Barre. Can't wait.

I am glad that I DO know New Mexico has a studio like Momentum that provides Gyrotonic Expansion System, a Wagyu cattle kind of exercise method in assisting the body to restore, enhance strength and mobility. If Pilates were a Bachelor's degree, Gyrotonics would definitely be a Ph.D.! To be certified, one must have a basic understanding of human body mechanisms and be willing to invest substantial amount of time to study, practice and explore to receive the benefits from the genius invention. Aline and Bryan have been equipped with skills in knowing what can be done to correct and build up the systems of the body so it works according to its original marvelous design. After 4 years of studying Pilates and 2 years learning Gyrotonic exercises here, I am excited to see what my 41-yr young body is capable of, overcoming the effects of ankle fractures and unleveled hip. One hour of Gyrotonic exercise usually flies by because I get to use machines that are truly fascinating, they are my kind of fun toys to play with and grow strong, lean and flexible at the same time.

If they didn't receive my cancellation policy form, why did they wait two weeks to let me know and then charge me an extra month. It feels like they just want my money and care nothing about the people that take classes there. So disappointing because the instructors are absolutely fabulous !!!

Lourdes goes above and beyond to care for her clients, many of whom she considers to be friends. She has clients that have been with her for 8 and 10 years, and after only 4 months, I understand their loyalty. I knew PT wasn't making me stronger, but I didn't know what I could reasonably expect from Pilates. Lourdes has slowly and steadily helped me build strength and flexibility in a safe, supervised way that doesn't add to my injury. She checks in frequently to make sure I'm okay after a session that was particularly challenging, and she makes me feel so empowered (yep, just like the name of her business) when I can execute a particular exercise or do something that demonstrates progress. I truly appreciate how professional she is - her dedication to continuous learning and trainings that allow her to keep up with new techniques and best practices. Lourdes always wants what is best for her clients. On top of being exceptionally good at what she does, she happens to be one of the loveliest humans. When my 70-year-old mother visited ABQ, Lourdes invited her to join a session and showed such care to make her feel comfortable while getting a good workout. I've never met anyone like Lourdes, and after years of PT, I feel like Pilates is actually improving my quality of life - physically and mentally. I look forward to each session with Lourdes. Her studio is a peaceful place to exercise, and her prices are more than fair. We are lucky to have her in this community, and I'm lucky to have discovered a lifelong hobby that builds me up and allows me to spend time with someone as kind-hearted as Lourdes.

My only gripe with this particular location is that the morning classes can feel like a geriatric high school - very cliquish - and if you aren't part of the social club, you are overlooked. I've had women try to stake claim over certain reformers and act territorial if you happen to take "their" reformer. Overall, it's been helpful though for my joint pain, so I continue to forge on and try to put the blinders on and relax for the quick 50 minute classes.

My insurance covers me attending yoga through a program and this is my choice of studios. I've been doing yoga for over 15 years and this studio has all of the things I look for in a place to practice. The first class is free and they offer both hot, warm, and room temperature yoga. I've tried all of the above types of classes with a lot of different instructors. My favorite is Teresa because of her style, she lets you play in class practicing arm balances at a variety of levels. Her yin yoga class is to die for, I feel that my week is set once I've attending this longer well guided class. I have also attended workshops here and enjoyed each one I have gone to. They do have showers which is a huge plus! Towels, yoga mats, weights, straps, blocks, are all in the room and easy to access. Visit the studio and if you've never gone, I recommend a room-temp or yin class .
