The California Science Museum is the best and maybe only option for kids and adults to experience…read morethe world of science around us in Los Angeles. The Space Shuttle Endeavor is here and might have been what initially drew me to the museum but they have an IMAX theater as well as new rotating exhibits to keep things fresh. The current new exhibit is Mummies. And don't forget to go outside and see the SR-71 Blackbird by the parking structure.

Fun spot, free with $20 parking, lots to see. However. If you come during the summer, be aware that…read moreevery camper in LA County may be there because it seems that the museum does nothing to limit the number of camp groups present on any given day, and the campers are not being adequately supervised. We came on a weekday afternoon around 2 pm and counted at least 7 different camp groups and the largest one of them had 200+ kids. Everything you could possibly want to see, read, touch, or experiment with was mobbed by 5-20 kids with no adults doing anything to control them or move them along when their "turn" was up. Kids cutting in line, kids shoving, kids yelling, kids taking other people's stuff (I saw a girl grabbing a Stanley water bottle someone had clearly left behind on a shelf and trying to hide it under her shirt). It was utter chaos. But, you say, it's a free museum, lower your expectations! We drove 45 minutes each way to get there and spent $20 on parking. We were looking forward to a nice time, not a perfect time. We've been before on "busy" weekend days and it's fine because the child to parent ratio is closer to 2:1 and the parents actually care about supervising their kids. The ratio on the day we went was closer to 20:1 and the adults were only there in body, not mind. I also would have gone to a faraway place in my mind if I were trying to wrangle 15 kids with zero respect for rules or authority. So I get it. But it sucked for everyone else there. Maybe the museum could have "camp hours" in the mornings and general public hours in the afternoon to make it less of a nightmare for everyone. Or limit the number of campers. Or increase the ratio of adults to children for the camp groups. Something. Anything. In the meantime, if you're just a regular person trying to beat the heat, this ain't it.

We went to this casual and local spot in Laguna Hills that serves the community! Walking in, you're greeted with a bright place that is filled with people from all walks of life, just eating lunch and taking a breather from work. That's how you KNOW you've got a gem on your hands. We went on a not-so-busy weekday, but there was still a decent crowd! I got a classic, the humble BLT. The great J. Kenji Lopez-Alt is credited with the sentiment that a BLT is a tomato sandwich first, and I agree with him. The tomatoes are the star of the show, with bacon and lettuce taking a backseat both flavor and function-wise. With the pepper jack on a whole wheat baguette, I can't complain here. It's a simple, tasty sandwich that I have trouble faulting. You get what you get, and it's a great way to have a feel-good sandwich without the heavy after effects of some others. And I...I got the italian. It's your gabagool-filled sandwich that you've gotta love! That's right, there's Gabagool, Moe-tah-dehll, salaam, pepperoni, and provolone! Top that with olives, banana peppers, tomatoes, lettuce, and you're in business. It's got a wonderful deli-meat texture, and the familiarity of the sandwich is just plain comforting. One bite into this thing, and it was like being transported into the past. Things were easier back then. These are the cold sandwiches, but their hot ones are also crazy! We're told they're even better! Come by and try it out for yourself. If you want the stuff that knows your belly, why not come try out Moe's Deli!?

However, if you plan on going to the IMAX and going on a documentary binge, (which we were), you really can't beat it. All have running times of approximately 45 minutes, so if you plan right you can eeasily do all three and certainly two of the three.
