Loud pub / restaurant looked like they had some amazing pies on offer. It was too bad we'd already had dinner because I was sorely tempted. The usual Steak & Kidney, but also Steak & Mushroom, Highland, and more I can't remember and the picture is too blurry. Decent beer, served cold. Plenty of room for standing with a few surfaces around for resting elbows and beers when the drinker is otherwise gesturing with both hands. Pies looked amazing!

Your standard British pub, and a good one at that. This establishment sits in a very cool stand alone building, smack dab in the middle of a modern street. Looks like the owner was a hold out, while the neighborhood around him was all built up. The atmosphere was great, exactly what you want in a pub. Service was competent and friendly. Two meals and drinks cost 15 quid. Not bad at all.

Looking for a place to sit and have a snack and drink off Oxford street we found the coach and horses pup. Nice old pub, seating very tight with small tables. We ordered chicken wings, crackling and a tomato soup. The food took over 30 min to come out and wings were good. Tomato soup was so so bad we could not eat it and the cracklings was not good at all. Two stars is fair as location and pub is nice but service and food is so poor. Dad as it has such potential

You think you understand what "authentic fish & chips" is. You are quick with opinions on the "best" fish & chips. What you need to come to terms with is while 80% of fish & chips are consistently alike everywhere, all you have to pay a little attention to, is the quality of the fish, lightness of the batter, oil used to fry and how fresh is the peas - At Coach & Horses, you have our approval!

From the outside, this pub presents a startling sight: a wedge-shaped, complete mock Tudorbethan exterior which might look more at home next to the Globe Theatre than nestled among the grand red-brick and Portland Stone architecture of Mayfair. The interior follows the Tudor theme: it's cosy (small!), with lots of dark wood and heavy beams. It was clearly a Wm Younger's pub in a previous existence, and they have retained the very fine stained glass windows to good effect (see photo). There is additional seating upstairs, though this is not always open. As it can get very busy, it's best appreciated outside the peak after-work hours. There's a Sky Sports TV screen perched over the staircase, but this isn't too intrusive. The pub serves a good range of real ales, which yesterday included Smiles' Red Ember, Fuller's London Pride, Timothy Taylor Landlord and Green King IPA. They serve traditional pub food from 11.30 until 22h Monday to Friday and 12noon until 18h on Saturday. Staff seemed efficient and friendly. In all, a nice spot to stop off and enjoy a respite from the bustle of Mayfair.

We tasted here with a friend so many kinds of beer! Beautiful environment, authentic English pub.

I went here with a friend just after work for a catch up and drink. The place was buzzy and busy, but not to the contortionist level to get through people. Or the requirement to shout at your friends to be heard!! We went to the bar and got served immediately, I really don't know how they managed to fit that many staff behind the bar, but it was great, looking around nobody was waiting to get served even though it was really busy. We got our drinks and found that upstairs there was additional seating so took a seat there. There's not loads of space, but they have used it well to fit in as many tables and chairs as they can without stacking everyone too close together. It almost feels like this place has just been plonked in the middle of Mayfair from some distant time. I adore the stain glass windows too. The staff are happy, drinks were good, and there was a really nice feel to the place. A couple of people were eating and their comments were positive, although we didn't eat here. Definitely up for coming back here for more after work drinks, either with work colleagues or friends.

Great little pub in the heart of Green Park.

The lady behind the bar is friendly and very helpful. She knows her beers and was quick to suggest an alternative to the wheat beer I wanted.

Stars are for the location and atmosphere. All good! Terrible hamburger and expensive sodas. So sad we wasted a London lunch here.

My wife actually booked dinner reservations in advance for Ye Old Cheshire Cheese, it was one of a few we did that for rather than just popping in. For some of these, Cheshire included, it isn't a bad idea if you want a full meal to do so as it gives you a table in a dining area that is quieter than the More raucous areas of the pub and guarantees you plenty of elbow room to dine. Every pub has fish and chips, and we had our share of it during our 8+ day trek, but my wife swears by this place as having the absolute best. I'd likely agree with that--we both had the traditional fish, chips, peas platter and every bite was great. We had a few slices of sourdough to hold us over while waiting for those plates. My wife had a bit of wine, and I tried a lager, lower ABV ale, and a pour of scotch opting for their "house" scotch. The spirits/beer menu was the same I saw used at a couple of what I think must be "sister" pubs all using the same distilleries and brewers. We were too full to try dessert. Service was friendly. Not sure if it was the vintage of my scotch or her wine, but price-wise this was by far our priciest pub visit in the area and I can't quite point my fingers at why, but I don't regret our meal and time here. As for historic interest, you can find pictures and placards of many of the pubs famous patrons from history--Dickens, Mark Twain on visits to London, etc. A first edition of a Dickens' book adorned a post by our table.

Cool pub dating back to 1300s?…read more Fish and chips were great. Price was okay given its a popular and historic spot. Beer was excellent and prices reasonable Only complaint was the dining area was extremely quiet on a Friday afternoon. A little strange for a pub

The history alone makes it worth visiting, and the location is perfect if you're exploring the area. It feels very classic London in the best way. We stopped in for a pint and honestly... the whole after-work beer culture over there is something I really need to bring back with me to the States. The beer was great, the atmosphere was lively without feeling overwhelming, and it just felt like one of those places where people naturally gather and stay awhile. Definitely worth stopping into if you're in the area.

Two story space - the ground floor feature the bar and handles walk in lunch; the upstairs is a dining room for those with reservations. Fun fact, as part of the history, the pub used to be the host of bare knuckle fights and had regulars like Charles Dickens. Wildfarmed sourdough - served with whipped salted butter and Guinness butter. Well toasted bread and the butters with salt were well made. Fuller's London Pride marinated steak and ale pie - served with seasonal veggies and red wine gravy, as well as either mash potatoes or triple cooked chips. If there is one dish London does really well, it's their pies. It was beautifully made and loaded with steak. The red wine gravy was decadent and added a perfect amount of moisture to the pie. Triple cooked chips were perfectly crispy but fluffy on the inside. Corn fed chicken breast - served with garlic and sage butter, mash potato, cavolo nero, and crispy onions. Only took a bite of this as it was my partner's dish but the bite of chicken I had was very juicy and well seasoned.
