I like the parking on the west side of the park better than the spot on West Lake Sammamish Parkway, but the latter is good too.

The multiple trail options allow for exploration, although a truly scenic loop within the park itself seems to be lacking. We ended up exiting the park and walking back through the surrounding neighborhoods to complete our loop, which felt a little unconventional, but the residents were surprisingly friendly and welcoming. A significant drawback of the main trailhead is the extremely limited parking. For future visits, I will definitely explore alternative parking options around the park's perimeter, as there doesn't seem to be a strong necessity to begin at the designated main entrance given the park's layout. During this visit, we didn't venture down to the lake or explore all the various routes, but the trails we did experience were peaceful and scenic. There were a few sections that presented some minor challenges due to curvy inclines covered in roots and uneven ground, requiring a bit of careful footing. Overall, Weowna Park offers a pleasant and serene hiking experience. While the lack of a dedicated scenic loop and the parking situation at the main trailhead are points to consider, the park's natural beauty and friendly neighborhood make it a worthwhile destination. Especially for a quick weekend walk. They allow pets, but be sure to keep them leased and bring clean up bags because that's also required.

What was really interesting to us, was a long the trail there were signs giving the coal mining history along the trail. There are multiple trails to explore and I look forward to coming back another time to explore some of the other trails. They also have horse trails, which is pretty cool. I just need to find a horse and learn how to ride one.

One of the steeper parts of the trail system, it's about 3 miles long and allows you to enjoy some of the beautiful scenery that Washington has to offer. Of course, many of the trails interwind so you can choose your own adventure! Parking can get a little crazy, it's good to come earlier in the day. Also keep in mind that Cougar Mountain isn't just some random name. Know what wildlife lives here, how to handle yourself, and remember we're the ones trespassing.

Dog friendly, well taken care of wooden pathway in some areas, dirt path in others and some snow run off in the warmer months. There are some creek crossings with some scantily made bridges. It's 2.6 miles in according to the website so 5.2 miles round trip. Nice view of the mountains and the surrounding woods. Feels like you're in the middle of nowhere. You can go back out to the parking area or it connects to another trail, Wilderness Cliffs, and you can keep going. I'd say this is an easy to moderate trail.

Signage is excellent throughout, easy to subtract or add miles to your hike. AllTrails shows many trails, but as usual, their mileage is usually short of what you will put in. This is a very easy fun trail, maybe a bit more challenging when more bikers are out, but this time only a few bikes and almost had the trail to myself. Grateful always for the quiet and nature time. I know I take pictures of mushrooms, plants, and fruit, but please, please! Use your discretion, I would not recommend eating any mushrooms or fruit off the trail unless you're 120% it's edible, I've taken many horticultural and mycology classes and I'm still very very careful with fruit, let alone mushrooms, err on the side of your safety, it's your life and health you're putting at risk. Just sayin' be safe be wise, it is life or death stuff. There's a lot of poison stuff out there. Better to just enjoy nature, truthfully. Getting back to the trail, this is one for just getting outdoors and getting some good n easy miles in. Love all the woods, sadly a lot of the streams are drying out. It is summer. Beautiful area and especially loved the lookout where you can see Mt. Rainier. That area was really…read morebusy since it was a nice, sunny day. Doesn't feel very peaceful when people are talking loudly and there are dogs off leash roaming around (love dogs but feel that they should be leashed). We must have come across a trail running race because there were trail runners passing us every minute or two. We had to stop continuously to make room for them to go by since the trail is narrow. The fireplace is a really cool spot.

Squak Mountain is a beautiful place to hike. So many trails to choose from. Today the goal was a…read moreloop. Not quite sure which one but we did but we hiked approximately 6.5 miles. The first part of the trail was uphill and not necessarily super hard but man, I got sweaty. All around was green it felt like hiking in Jurassic park. The trail was a bit overgrown on a few places but not too much so. We never really got to see a view but enjoyed a snack at the fireplace. Parking lot was nice and had a bathroom. There were lots of trail runners so keep an ear out for them. If you go go West Tiger to the summits, you'll get a 360 degree view of everything in the area, including Mt Rainier, every other mountain range, downtown Seattle and Bellevue, the lakes, and everything in between.

It's always an odd concept to review a TRAILHEAD instead of a trail, but I suppose it's worth…read morenoting that there's a decent-sized parking lot for Tiger Mountain hikers. Easy to find. Gets full FAST because of how popular this area can be. Not sure what the backup options are. Trailhead restrooms are nasty as expected. I'd suggest going potty deep in the forest, but my partner and I each touched something allergy-inducing during our hike. Anyways, signposts are clear when finding your desired trail, i.e. Tiger Mountain Trail, Around the Lake Trail, etc. Beautiful sequoias and other greenery I don't know the names for. Despite how busy it gets, the atmosphere was still serene and didn't FEEL crowded. High Point Trailhead is a great place to begin many adventures over a long period of time, and I'll definitely be back the next time I take a trip to Seattle.

A hidden gem for wild (and thus organic) blackberry picking! The hill running down from…read moreRedmond-Woodinville Road NE to the Sammamish River Trail is overgrown with blackberry bushes. Every summer we come by and pick over two pounds! The time varies, but typically the blackberries are ripe by the end of July. Make sure to cover yourself as protection against the thorns, especially since the best blackberries tend to be harder to reach. As a trail itself, the views aren't as nice as the Sammamish River Trail, and a couple of areas are also rather narrow. It runs along civilization, so you have to pay attention to road crossings, but it's still a decent trail.

This is a wonderful trail, for hikers of all abilities. Running under the PSA power lines, it runs…read morefrom, roughly, the 1200 hundred block of the Sammamish Slough Trail, to Farrell-McWhirter Park. It's comprised of a semi-wide dirt path that winds through woodsy and residential Redmond. There's a fairly steep climp up from the slough trail, eastward, until the Red-Wood Road, and be advised that there are a few, large street crossings (ex., the Red-Wood Rd, where there is a pedestrian light and crosswalk, and also on NE 104 St, mid-block. No light here, but a well-marked crosswalk at least). The majority of the trail is flat and it's a bit over 3 miles in length. I love seeing horses and riders occasionally here, and there are quite a few runners. Ending at Farrell-McWhirter Park is just lovely (see my review of that park). THis makes for a fabulous family "trek", ideally ending with a picnic at the park!
