We first met the owner, Keith, at the Field Arts and Events Hall Wedding Expo. He was personable, helpful, and very accommodating. He had several suggestions--while open to all of our ideas--for where we could hold the ceremony and how we could arrange seating. He was also open to us returning in the evening so we could have amazing photos taken during the "golden hour" lighting. And to top it off, he even supplied the lavender for our wedding reception centerpieces! And as a side note, there was ample parking for our 100 guests. In the end, we can't imagine how our wedding could have turned out any better! If you're getting married on the Olympic Peninsula, you should definitely take a good look at Flatiron Fields. Short half-mile loop walk through a beautiful forest with rushing falls on the river. While the…read morefalls themselves are not spectacular like other waterfalls along Hood Canal, the walk gets five stars from me because it's so impeccably maintained by the community (presumably volunteers). There are lots of interesting signposts along the route and you can tell this place is lovingly looked after by the community. It's a pretty easy walk -- my parents are in their 70s and had zero problems. (There's a flight of stairs near the waterfall but other than that, it's an easy stroll.) To get to the walk, drive toward Port Ludlow but don't go all the way to the water's edge where all the touristy stuff is -- instead, turn right on Breaker Lane where the RV park is, and then turn right again into the Port Ludlow & Associates building parking lot. (Put "Port Ludlow & Associates" into your Google maps for the best driving directions.) Drive all the way to the end of the parking lot and you'll find a little community patch of lawn with planted trees that leads up to the trailhead at the edge of the forest. Turn left at the trailhead sign (for a better walk experience) and follow the loop around to the falls. Again, don't expect any spectacular waterfalls, but this is a great easy "back to nature" walk that leaves you with a nice feeling because of how the community looks after it.

I love all things history and this little museum did not disappoint…read more Having lived in the Seattle area my entire life, I don't know (or remember) too much about WA state history so this was really interesting. With free admission for the month of May, we gave a donation upon entry and started with the 30 minute video about what we would be seeing throughout. Without the video, I would have been clueless as to what we were seeing and who we read about. Make sure you go downstairs to view the Native American artifacts of the area.

Unfinished business, this review. So let me have a go at it right now. I've half an hour to kill…read morebefore "doggy-dinner-time" anyhooo. There's always something magical going on in Port Townsend. Its the nature of the place. A brief glance at either the "PT Leader" or "The Peninsula Daily News" will offer up many choices... Perhaps a movie? (Three venues plus an old-fashioned Drive-In movie theater.) Perhaps a show at the Upstage or Mondresa Castle? Perhaps a class or two out at Fort Worden. (Goddard has an extension here as does Peninsula College.) I could continue, but shall not. This is a review of the Key CIty Public Theatre which holds its own against every other possible choice of entertainment in town . It's rare that a KCPT performance is not sold out. It's rarer still if a KCPT is a flop. Just doesn't happen. 'Twas early summer and I was in town. "MacBeth" was playing at Chetzemoka Park, and I thought to go. KCPT had pulled out the stops with this performance, staging it in a corner of the park. Now Chetzemoka Park is quite spectacular. Green grass and roses on a bluff overlooking Puget Sound. Boats of all sizes and shapes floating leisurely in an out of the harbor. Clouds floating in the sky. Eagles soaring. Against this backdrop, MacBeth would appear out of place. Too bloody. Too martial. So wisely, KCPT chose a small green glen within the park, placed the audience with their backs to the Sound. Succeeded in transporting the whole audience back in time to a magical place,perhaps somewhere near Scotland, where Shakepeare's drama could realistically unfold. Success! Even though the lead actor had been injured the day before and the role was now played by the director. A perfect five stars! The next day, I said to myself, why not try another KCPT production? "BARK: The Musical" was playing at the tiny KCPT playhouse on the waterfront. And of course, this production, too was five stars. Laughed a lot, cried a bit, as actors performed their doggishly funny routines. Oh...and got the last seat in the house before the performance sold out. Front and center, first row. Perfect ! And under twenty dollars. Try getting to a Broadway show for that kinda chump change. KCPT has my vote. The actors are very good. (Sometimes appearing with permission from Actors Equity.) The plays are perfectly executed and appropriate to their settings. And... As a bonus...the audience. Intelligent. Interactive. Interesting. What's not to like? A magical company for a magical town. But...gotta go now... My half-hour is up, the dogs are anxiously awaiting their repast. May start howling soon... Doggy dinnertime here at Casa Canine. Tonght we're having Hill's Science Diet. Weight Loss Formula. You are most welcome to join us. If you lick your bowl clean. And guard it carefully. We don't stand on ceremony around here. Catch ya at KCPT next time I'm there. This theater is now local by location ONLY. They have eliminated (willingly, I might add) any element of the uniqueness of Port Townsend from the theater are now giving you only the barest of bare minimums of the talent that Port Townsend has to offer. Take this to heart the next time you are looking for good, quality, PORT TOWNSEND talent.

The cider was well balanced and low-carbonation which is right up my alley. Like most places, the sampler flights just don't make sense as they are 1.5x the cost of a glass, so I would strongly recommend getting glasses and splitting amongst your party.

The new location of the Pacific Northwest Naval Air Museum (on Ault Field Road) is much nicer than…read morethe previous location (Pioneer Way). The new location is designed from the ground up to house the show pieces and exhibits. Everything from the previous location is there, but nothing is crammed in. Having been a member of two of the squadrons featured there, I really enjoy visiting the exhibits of the two squadrons I served in. But there is a lot more to experience! The only downfall of the new location is that the PBY Catalina hasn't made the journey from Pioneer Way to Ault Field. YET! The management assured me, every time I ask, they are working on it and hope to have it join the rest of the exhibits soon.

Gem of a little museum that really could use your support!…read more THE ROSES: The PBY Memorial Foundation museum is dedicated to the men who flew PBY 'Catalina' flying boats from the nearby Oak Harbor seaplane base (now a municipal marina). For it's small size, it has a very well curated selection of artifacts and interactive displays. Particularly touching is a table set in remembrance of our POW/MIAs. Enthusiastic and well-informed volunteer staff are available to answer questions, but don't overwhelm you. Be sure to check out the PBY-5a Catalina across the street. THE THORNS: These guys really need a bigger facility. THE VERDICT: Superb little museum is a definite 'must visit' for history buffs. Highly recommend!

The path not taken…read more.. Once upon a time, long before I had a driver's license, a pilot in Fairbanks, Alaska offered to help me get my pilot's license. What to say? Sighhhhhhh...the summer was short, my family was heading home, and it never happened. But.... Had I lived in Port Townsend, WA as a child, it could have. Indeed, it would have. I'd be flying the friendly skies of PT now, even as we speak. But, of course, I might not have time to do this review... www.ptaeromuseum.com I visited the Port Townsend Aero Museum three days days ago. T'was a bright spring day and I was loathe to go inside knowing that the three day forecast was for snow, snow, snow. Chipper Yelper that I am, I went inside the museum anyhoo, leaving the balmy outdoor weather to a small (teenaged) work crew landscaping the front of the building. If the kids were hard at work making the place beautiful for visitors, who was I not to reward their efforts? A small admission fee got me inside the new building. Airplane models hung from the rafters, beautifully restored planes had "landed" strategically about the floors. Placards described each plane and its role in history. Several planes (as noted on the placards) were currently in use as training craft for the young pilots who learn to fly at the museum. My entrance fee (donations from other visitors) is what keeps the fly lessons and the museum going. So I lingered for an hour or so, looking at airplane models, antique cars and some wonderful old flight helmets and gauges. I walked the catwalk around the inside of the tall building, looked at aviation paintings, watched other visitors as they entered the spacious hangar. DIdn't even notice that I was inside on a balmy day. I do have a suggestion or two for future museum exhibits: I'd have liked to have seen a motor, perhaps with its schematic nearby. I would have enjoyed brief "instructions" on the aerodyamics of flight. A checklist of preparations for lift-off and landing would have been fun to look at. (I am told that these are readily available through airplane manufacturers...so a generic list shouldn't be hard for the museum to find. ) There once was a wonderful old hand-lettered sign visible as you exited Jefferson International Airport, which is where the museum is located. It said "Don't forget to close your flight book." Perhaps an actual flight book would make interesting reading. Certainly the visitors' comment book does reflect the numbers of geographically distant folks who tour the museum but no space is included in it for visitors comments. This would be nice. But heck. Who am I to tinker with the success of this endeavor? This is a cool museum. Kids involved in its programs really *do* get the flight bug and occasionally do solo before they get their Washington State driver's license. And as for me? Well, I had a good time. Hopped into my ancient Saturn which was parked in the parking lot. Waved at the kids working on the landscaping. Scanned my gas gauge, speedometer and clock...and said to myself as I exited into the sunny Port Townsend afternoon... What if?? The road not taken. Or rather the runway not taken. Yet.

My son-in-law and I made our first visit to the museum on a September Saturday morning while our…read morewives were shopping at the farmer's market in town. The museum was farther out of town than expected, about a ten-minute drive south. We arrived around 10 am and found only three other cars in the parking lot. Our first impression was the museum's modern exterior. Inside was just as impressive. In the lobby, we each paid our $12 admission fee before heading in to see the three dozen or more general aviation aircraft on display. Most aircraft were parked on the floor, while another ten or so hung from the high ceiling. The parked aircraft each had a cookie sheet under the engine to catch oil drips. This makes sense, as they do fly all the aircraft on display that they legally can. After seeing the aircraft and checking out some interesting old photographs, we stopped at their bookstore of old used aviation books. I couldn't resist buying one about the 747. We were through the museum and back on the road in about an hour. We enjoyed the visit and will visit again, perhaps timed to a special event taking place there.

Love this cute little town! There is so much to see and do for a few hours. There are plenty of…read morerestaurants with a variety of food choices. Cool old historic buildings to see. A definite must stop is the General Store. It is huge inside with a cafe, museum, restrooms, ATM and tons of gifts. We thoroughly enjoyed walking around this town. We had lunch at Butcher & Baker Provisions, and it was excellent. Their cakes and cheesecakes are delicious! Highly recommend stopping here while in the area.

Port Gamble was not part of the original adventures, but after talking with Norma Jean at the…read morebotanical gardens, it had my curiosity peaking, historical old lumber port town and beaches... I was in! Upon arriving, seeing the beautiful old houses, a cute authentic general store, and amazing views of the sound, I couldn't wait to explore it further. Plenty of parking, I headed down to check out the beach, on the way seeing that during the summer season, there are kayak rentals (another reason to return) what made the beach interesting, besides a ton of seashells, was that it was adjacent to where the town in the old days had their dump and landfill, so over time, the old glass was finding its way onto the beach, Cool stuff! A little bit like the glass beach near Fort Bragg, Cali. Definitely enjoyed walking through the town, appreciating the buildings and houses and history. They have guest houses for rent, there was a wedding going on, so that's another venue available, lots of gift and art shops and a cute Tap House I'll review as well.
