Recommended deep cleaning. A second dentist said it was totally unnecessary. He said I had a cavity which a second dentist could not find. I believe he is very capable dentist but I do question his ethics. I would never return. read more

Went in for tooth cleaning only. Had dental insurance and should have been covered. Informed needed over $1,200.00 worth of work and did not even do tooth cleaning. Had to pay additional $25.00 just to be able to leave this place! Had a bad feeling about this place before we went in, but got worse with every minute!! Do not go here!! They told me my insurance wouldn't cover the "type of cleaning" I needed, without actually checking the code with my insurance, and made me pay. I then contacted my insurance who filed a grievance. They stated it was illegal for them to charge me as they obviously did not run the code. My insurance then paid them, and told them to refund me. I have been waiting for my refund for over a year. I have called the office, been in the office, called "corporate" which doesn't really exist, and spoken with online chat. The office tells me they can not refund me I have to go to corporate. I call the number and the automated system says "for refunds, contact your local office." I've called the 800 numbers and have spoken with online chat who all say, "we are escalating the issue and you will be called within 48 hours." I've never ONCE been called, yet I've called nearly every month for a year and get the same response each time. They not only took my money, they took insurance money as well, and now refuse to refund me although "the refund is in the system and just needs to be released." Apparently no one in the entire company has the ability to "release" it though. Shame on me for trusting them when they told me my "type of cleaning needed" was not covered, but shame on them for double dipping with my money as well as the insurance money. I will never recommend this company, and I will continue to let everyone know the type of company they are. read more

No better, no worse than any other dental office. Way too expensive like all the rest. All I get are cleanings. Has made me much more aware of how important flossing is. Not much relief when I get on medicare next year. Techs and dentist are friendly. If there is any other dentist, that accepts what we laughingly call insurance, closer to Port Charlotte, I would like to know. read more

When choosing a dentist or physician I think it's important to check the ratings, which I neglected to do before going to Coast Dental. Coast Dental in Punta Gorda is far below standards in customer service which is really too bad for the dentist who may be very good. On my first scheduled appointment in September, I waited over an hour before the dentist came in to tell me he had an emergency patient walk in and he had to see her. The dentist thanked me for my patience, but then did not return to me for another hour. At which time, I asked if I was going to be seen for my cleaning. I was told that they made a mistake in scheduling and that would be done on my next visit along with the suggested 8 fillings. The dentist suggested filling my receding gums. I wasn't certain that was necessary, but I agreed to return for a second appointment. I was patient and understanding the first visit. A month later, I called to confirm my appointment for October 25 at 5:30 and was told that I didn't have an appointment. However, I have a reminder card with the appointment time. I was told the scheduler (aka office manager is no longer with them) and she was to blame. Needless to say, I was not happy and I will not be returning to that practice. I made sure to tell them that I was contacting my insurance company for a new dentist and to report my dissatisfaction. I also informed the practice of this very poor rating. read more

Staff was friendly. Dr. Choi fixed a minor issue but then said I needed major work. I agreed to do one side of my mouth and in the process lost two teeth that had previously been healthy. They quoted me a 4 quadrum cleaning for $900. It should have taken a few visits. The dental hygenists did the job in 2 hours!!! Not even a true 4Q scaling, etc. It was finished in under 2 hours....It was a slightly glorified teeth cleaning..I was taken big time!!! They scared me into it!!! read more

First of all, dentistry is not a cheap industry. You, as a patient, will need to make decisions as to see an sole proprietor dentist, or a corporate dentistry office. I choose the corporate office, (Coast Dental) since they take almost all types of nationally recognized dental insurance. Like all doctors, they like a clean workspace. A clean mouth, in this case. If you do not brush and floss regularly, then they are going to see it in your mouth. They may even ask that your mouth be cleaned before a filling can be done. This is not unusual. Their pricing is comparative to other dentistry offices. And yes, they will try to up sell you to the higher level products in the field. Every doctors office is a business, and it is easy to forget that reality. Dr. Martinez in the Punta Gorda office is actually a good dentist in that he conserves as much as the tooth as possible, and has a good technique. This is the better method, but is the most time consuming. Other dentists are trained to grind down the tooth and then do a buildup. That method is faster, but not so good for the patient. Dr. Martinez separates himself from the front desk in terms of payment. He is a doctor to be a doctor - not a bill collector. You must decide on the treatment options. If this is not acceptable, then you should leave and find another dentist for your needs. When you have been to dentists for a long time, eventually you will find which dentists is appropriate for your needs. I have found that Dr. Martinez office in Punta Gorda fits my needs, and has the appropriate regard for my teeth. My insurance allows for reasonable dental charges. Get some dental insurance. read more

Worst Dental Experience of my life. The receptionist, Rosemary, is excellent. Everyone else there, not so much. The dentist, Dr. Martinez, must have studied dental care under Hitler. I just cannot think of anything nice to say about him. Plus they will tell you that they have checked with your insurance and this is what you owe, but you must pre-pay first. Okay, no problem. Then you will get a call from a collections agency a couple of months later and when you follow up, they will tell you that the insurance did not pay so you have to pay the whole thing, but again, they will not send you a bill, they will send it to collections. We have been able to locate a very kind and gentle dentist with legitimate billing practices within 3 miles of this location. Ask your neighbors for direction. Don't go here. read more

These people are crooks. I went one time for a check up and I thought a cleaning. First of all, they didn't tell me I would have to come back for a cleaning. Secondly, I sat waiting for 30 minutes before they took me into the room. The rooms were open - no privacy. You can hear everyone else talking and talking. They did full xrays on me and then the doctor came in. He proceeds to tell me I needed two crowns, veneers on my bottom teeth because my upper teeth were wearing them down, I had four cavities and might need braces to correct my bite. Oh and my roots were small so basically my teeth were going to fall out!! I nearly freaked ouT .. I have never had issues with my teeth. I went to a dentist just two years ago and clean bill of health. I have insurance so they paid for this visit. But I imeediatly went in search of a second opinion. Found a dentist in Port Charlotte and didn't say a word to him about my experience. He looked at my xrays - which I obtained from Coast - and did an exam. Clean bill of health. I told him what happened and when I mentioned "Coast" he said say no more. He said he had people complain about them once a week. He couldn't believe what I was told. So...moral of the story...STAY AWAY FROM THIS DENTIST! It's a corporate scam!!!! read more

HORRIBLE. Unethical. I was in horrible pain and with new insurance I was limited to certain dentists. After xrays and a quick exam by Alfred Choi, He told me he was not able to save the tooth AND the 2 behind it had to be pulled as well. He told me I also needed bone grafting. I was terrified. I asked him what that procedure entailed and his exact words were "that's my job to worry about, just know it needs to be done" !! His assistant came in with a print out of the fees. With ins, $1,718.00 . They asked how I would be paying! I told them I'd have to think about this and I was warned that if I let this go, I could die from a brain infection from the tooth. I left hysterical crying. The next morning I called my previous dentist who is an hour from where I live, and he got me in right away. He said not only can he save the bad tooth but there was no reason to pull the other two!!! ( two needed a root canal and the other just needed to be cleaned up and a crown!) He saved my mouth. Had I had that money the day before, I would have let that BUTCHER "Dr." Alfred Choi, cut up my mouth...for no good reason. That procedure and their scare tactics were unnecessary and unethical. I beg anyone to get a second opinion, especially if something doesn't seem right. read more

This is an issue that I spoke about with the office manager over a year ago. It is still not resolved. Maybe posting this will get some action.......The trash cans near the chairs are broken. The Technicians have to lift the lid with the same hand that they stick into your mouth. It should be obvious to everyone that this is unacceptable. read more

I went and loved them all. But now that I have had 6000. between my husband and myself, they got the money and customer service has gone in the tubes. i have been calling for 3 days to get a copy of what I had done for my taxes and all I get is answering machine with NO return calls. After I am done with my ALREADY paid for work I will be looking yet again!!! The girls in the office have crappy attitudes and RUN THE PLACE..... yet the girls who work with the patients are most wonderful. read more

Spent $1,677 on periodontal treatment that did nothing. Hygienist was wonderful, Dr. Choi was rude and incompetent. Dr. Choi crowned a cracked tooth and charged me $800.00. After 8 month I got an abscess in the tooth and I had to have it removed. I'm 59 and it was the first tooth I ever had to have pulled. I just thank God the abscess didn't go into my artificial knee that Dr. Choi knew about! I DO NOT recommend this dentist! read more
