A few weeks ago I went to Coast Dental and told them I was there for a second opinion. I had two teeth that needed crowns. What a mistake that was. Right away the vibe there wasn't good. They had nobody working in the reception room and as I found out they had no manager at that office either. Even though I had brought my prior x-rays with me they insisted on doing their own x-rays which included my whole mouth. When I objected they said it was standard for on anyone new going to their office. The girl who took the x-rays was totally incompetent and had to take the x-rays multiple times to get it right. Then they tried to upsell me on work I didn't need nor did I request. They tried to charge the insurance company $600 for that visit. They were denied. I was scheduled for a cleaning nothing more. The staff called and canceled the day of. I was given a 4:30 time a few days later. When I arrived the only staff there were the receptionist and hygienist. I told them I was there for my bi-yearly cleaning before heading north for 6 months. They told me I needed x-rays before cleaning. I said I was only scheduled for a cleaning and would like to wait on the x-rays. They told me they could NOT clean my teeth without the x-rays because it was a Florida state law. They refused to clean my teeth. I searched online to verify this. There is NO such law. Wish I had read the reviews on Yelp before trusting my dental work to them. With one year and one month of me going there for root canals and crowns they have managed to 1. Turn me away 3 times saying they're overbooked even when I had made an appointment two weeks prior.. 2. Do a faulty job resulting in the crown falling out and them not standing by their work 3. Crack another crown of mine that I ended up going elsewhere to redo 4. Lie about my outstanding balance, even when I had given them around $1,600 (the entire amount they had quoted me for after my insurance had paid a certain amount), to come a year later saying I owe them more money 5. I had an appointment on May 27th at 9:20. I received 3 reminders from coast about my visit. When I showed up for my appointment I was told there's no doctors in today and that he didn't understand why they had made the appointment. no empathy with patient pain I overlooked the long wait and endured the most ungentle trea in the chair I've ever experienced but the last draw was not getting proper pain medication in spite of having stitches and a bloody mouth first tried to give me tylenol-seriously?-then a steroid and finally something for arthritis!!! My God I have had 3 root canals and a couple of extractions (elsewhere) and dentists ALWAYS give a mild limited narcotic -without being asked- because that's a given for that kind of crushing pain. I had dental work done in March 2022 at Coast Dental on Fruitville Road in Sarasota. I paid my bill. I sent it into my insurance to get reimbursed. I received a check a few weeks later from my insurance company for half of the amount that I paid. I called the office they told me there was a credit on my account of $971. I told him I would like a refund for that money because I don't want a credit on my account. they stated it would have to come from their corporate office. They stated that it would have to go back to my insurance company and then sent back to me which is unacceptable. There is no reason why they cannot issue me a check to me and sent it to my address. I have called Coast Dental corporate office more than 10 times asking for this to be resolved. Each person I speak to says that they will send it to the corporate office to be dealt with ASAP. I told them to have them call me because they would not give me a phone number where I could speak to someone in the corporate office. Each time they said someone would get back with me within 24 hours. No one has ever emailed me or called me about this matter. I'm now seeking my $971 +3% interest because they have kept my money for so long without refunding it to me. I have also contacted the Florida board of dentistry. This was my first experience with this corporate office. I will never never go there again! read more

Sadly they are not up front about potential or out of pocket costs. The office manager Bryan was the most condescending and rude person we have ever encountered in a dentist setting. They tell you "there is no way to know what insurance will cover in advance" and then charge you after a procedure forcing you to pay what ever number they come up with. We did not receive or even see the breakdown of costs in writing on our last visit. The Dentist Dr. Mark Greenwald is great, its a shame he has horrible office staff. read more

I have not been to this dentist in 4 years and I just got a bill. I have called four consecutive days at least 5 times a day and not only will they not answer the phone but the voicemail is full. If I call and follow prompts to schedule I do get a human that promises to send an emergency message to the location so they will call me. The funny and predictable thing is that if I call the "Patient Quality Assurance" number that they put in their Yelp replies, I of course reach a voicemail box that is full and can't accept messages. Absolutely horrible dental office! Was told due to a new doctor I need X-rays, ok got it done, thinking soon they will start the filling and can finally get my teeth cleaned... NOPE!!! I spend over 2 hours in that office and they told me that we have to reschedule the filling because doctor is busy with the morning patient. I made 2 appointments, one for a cleaning and one for getting my filling done! And they tell me that they can't do anything for me because as of this morning their hygienist quit and the doctor is busy!?!?!? I have been trying to bring my 2 teenagers to this location because the specific services they need are only listed at this location on the website. Literally since April I have been rescheduled 4 or 5 times a few days before their appointment. Every single time I am told "we don't have the staff available". I spent alot of time looking for a good orthodontist & dentist that would not overcharge, but had good staff and equipment. After trying 3 places in the area, I choose Coast because the dentist and assistant went way beyond the regular routine check. Run screaming. Besides tons of painful old school and unnecessary x-rays and price gouging, it's dingy and dirty. I now need to spend 1000s of dollars to correct what was supposed to be two fillings. The dentist was nice but highly inexperienced- my son noted they liked the same video game. Great. Had to beg to be seen again after one filling had a sharp point that caused a wound in my upper cheek. I never went back. Just the worst dental experience ever. The filling had made it so I can't floss as two teeth are stuck together so I have an awful pocket there. The other filling cane out of my molar after a year. read more

Dishonest. My mom used Coast Dental and prior to any work she got done by them, she made sure their staff cleared it with her insurance to make sure everything was covered. To our surprise we started receiving bills from Coast Dental. My mom is elderly and speaks little English, so it wasn't easy for her to address this on her own. I went to Coast Dental and spoke to Brandt, who looked into the invoices and told me that it was the insurance who had not covered the totality of the bill, therefore my mom was responsible for the difference. As I was still in their office, I got on the phone with mom's insurance, who advised that Coast Dental had overcharged their scheduled fees and they had covered their part. It was only when confronted with this information that Brandt finally adjusted their invoice to the insurance scheduled fees and my mom was cleared. So, this means that they were telling my mom the work was covered by her insurance, but at the time of billing they were overcharging her, without clarifying this information to her. If mom doesn't have someone to protect her from this dishonest practice, she would have had no option but to pay their excessive fees. I'll be staying clear from them and will make sure that mom, too. They are taking advantage of elderly people or anyone who won't do their homework. I wish I could give them zero stars. read more

Don't waste your time coming here, even with insurance they will over charge you and you will not get the services you deserve. From the joke of the X-ray technician who caused me more pain than the root canal I had today. She laughed at me when I told her she was hurting me and informed me that was her job, seriously? I printed out the new patient paperwork out online to save time as they recommended. I was at Coast Dental more than 15 minutes before my 10 am appointment time on August 30, with completed paperwork, I had only X-rays, a dental exam and they referred me to their endodonist in house and I sat there until after 2PM!!! Jumping from exam chair to exam chair and back out to the waiting room, when they did not have anywhere else for me to go. They did not even clean my teeth!!! The hygienist asked do you drink tea or coffee?? I said everyday and she said your teeth are fine, no cleaning is needed.. What?? Preventative care?? A good dental cleaning, is part of my dental plan that I am now paying insurance premiums for. To top this all off I got another bill in the mail, yesterday 9-19-17 saying I owed more money. How can that be they even attached a copy of my explanation of benefits from my insurance company and after calling my insurance company and telling them what I have already paid, the insurance company said I am due a refund and advised that I do not need to pay that bill. So I drive to Coast and tried to explain what the insurance company said and the receptionist could not even give me a straight answer. I asked that my X-ray films from 8-30-17 be sent to Greenberg Dental as I was getting a second opinion and that my appointment was Wednesday 9-20-17. My daughter waited hour and half past her appointment for teeth cleaning then the employee tried to sell her teeth whitening package and did unnecessary xrays. When I talked to billing department B about the unnecessary care,he suggested that maybe I should have gone back with her in a smart ass voice. I would never recommend this place to my worst enemy. They have over charged me almost $6,000 since 2014 by charging me full price, instead of the insured contracted rate. Different dentists all the time, and pressure you into making decisions to get their buck. Would always find "something wrong" and never want to actually give me a cleaning. The wait time is inexcusable. Over an hour each time I had gone there. Front office staff are rude, and not responsive to any of my inquires in regards to my billing issues. When I changed providers, they refused to fax over my x-rays and records to my new dentist even with the HIPAA form signed. I now keep getting statements in the mail saying I owe $100.00 for a time when I wasn't even there. Really bad experience with this place!!! They have changed orthodontic dentist at least 4 times since my son started the treatment 3.5 years ago. This had to be one of the worst experiences of my life. First off, my appointment was at 8:30am. I waited in the waiting room until they called for me at 11am. Other people in the waiting room were also getting annoyed and asking how much longer. The only positive experience was the kind lady that took my x-rays. After that I was taken to be seen by the dentist who came in for about 5 minutes. After that I waited in the chair about another 25 minutes for someone else to come in for only a few minutes. Then again I waited another 30-45 minutes for them to bring me my treatment plan. I had to get up and ask how much longer because I had been waiting for a ridiculous amount of time (and I am NEVER one to do this) . After all the back and forth of waiting I got out at 1pm and at that point didn't even WANT to wait for the cleaning. Mind you the two employees did not speak English very well at all so it was really hard to understand anything they were saying. I would NOT recommend this place. Although the dentist seemed nice, the office is very dirty and disorganized for procedures that should be done in a clean environment to prevent infection. The office staff can often be rude and wait times can be awful. the hygienist had difficulty making the temporary crown which explains why my temporary crown broke twice before getting the permanent crown. One can not figure out the billing practices. My insurance changed during the process. Yet- they continued to bill my old insurance and not the new information provided. When the old insurance denied the claim once again as not a policy holder, some one hand wrote a nasty comment about sending me to collections. When I tried to call to tell them once again they were billing the wrong insurance- the office person would not take my call and made me call their corporate office who in turn sent me back to local office.
