After being disappointed by other garages that I had tried in Halifax (e.g. being told I was going to need to replace an expensive part, but when my family's long-term mechanic in NB checked it, there wasn't anything wrong with it), I tried out Coast Tire & Auto on Young St. I've now been taking my car here for two years and they are WONDERFUL! They're really straight-forward, down-to-Earth and don't try to upsell you. They'll let you know if there are parts that can wait to be replaced or if they need to be done right away. Once my car had a sporadic strange noise and when they couldn't find an issue on my first visit, they told me to drop in any time it was doing it without making an appointment. (They've since figured it out and fixed it.) They offer taxi chits if you need to drop your car off and go somewhere and come back. I am a repeat customer because of their customer service and recommend them regularly. The only drawback at this location is that sometimes parking can be hard to find. When that happens, I usually just pull up in front of the window and pop in to ask where they want me to leave the car. It also helps that they have a 10% CAA discount! read more

A great place to buy tires! I purchased a set of all seasons last year from Coast Tire. I work really close to this location so every so often, I drop off the car, walk to work so I can get my tires rotated. They always fit me in, and do a great job. They are really friendly and my tires were a lot cheaper than others. I also get my MVI done there - they treat me really well. read more

One tire + one random nail = flat unfixable tire. Well crap! What's a driver to do with a tire with a slow leak and the knowledge that it can't be fixed and the need to purchase a new tire is in your near future? Hit up Yelp of course. Coast Tires comes up and after reading a few of the reviews I give them a call. It didn't hurt that this place was barely a stone's throw away from where I live but location is not the only reason I am giving this place 4 stars. I call to inquire about tires and the person on the other end gives me some of the best customer service I received in a long time. He tells me that if I want to get tires that day it would cost $XXX.xx amount but since it was a slow leak I could probably wait until tomorrow and he'd order another brand of tire just as good but come in almost $70 cheaper. He then proceeds to ask if I have a spare and if I wanted to swing by they would just swap out the slow leaking tire for the spare until I came back the next day. I go in that same day, wait about 10 minutes (they literally stopped what they were doing and put my Dusty up on the lift) and before I know it my spare is on and there wasn't a charge for the service. I go in the next day and in about 45 minutes I drive away with two new tires, some excellent customer service and a new place for all my automotive needs. read more

Excellent customer service and high quality work earn this Coast Tire location an easy 5 stars in my book. The staff are always friendly and helpful, and willing to answer any questions I have. The also seem very knowledgeable about their work, with which I have never been dissatisfied. I head to this location for everything related to my car: tire changes, yearly inspections, repairs, etc., and I have complete confidence in their abilities. My dad has been a customer for many years as well, and just to show how well they treat their repeat clients, because he has been taking his vehicles there for so long, they often will go out of their way to give him a break on his bill (not charging for all the labour, etc.). Price-wise they are about on par with other garages, but the quality of their customer service and workmanship vastly surpasses other similar businesses I have patronized in the past, so they are definitely worth my money. read more

Had rear rotors an pads installed Oct 2019. Last week I heard a scraping sound from my left rear wheel and was informed by the garage that the job was done incorrectly. I went to coast tire due to its pretty good rating on Yelp. It was a mistake. I dropped the car off no problem, confirmed my phone number with them and they said they would call me. Around 4:30 with no word and having dropped it off around 2pm I took a bus back home assuming it would be the next day before I heard. At 4:58pm I got a call from and all they said is "are you coming to get your car or what?" I told them I was waiting for a call. He then explained he was calling the wrong number over and over and left many messages on "some foreign guys" voicemail. He then told me they close at 5pm and I needed to get my car. I told him I was in Dartmouth and he said so you want to pay over the phone and I'll hide the keys for you? I told him I could pay over the phone but I would get the car tomorrow. He took my credit card payment. Made a stink about having the car stay there and said he was going to put my keys in the trunk. I personally thought it was totally unprofessional for them to give me 2 minutes to get my keys or they were going to be left in my unlocked car. The part I left out is that I had originally took the car in to see what was wrong with it because it had been making a weird noise. I decided to get an oil change at the same time. When he called to tell me to get the car I asked what was wrong with the car. He told me he'd look at the notes. He told me it was an $1100 dollar fix but there's maybe places that would do it cheaper, and they say things like that because they're good guys. I asked how long he thought I had before it needed to be repaired. He told me it could break down any minute really and that I'm really gambling at this point. They maybe nice guys by telling you to go elsewhere but they're also kinda clueless and bad at business. I'm frustrated I have to make another appointment somewhere else and drive my car to work every morning not knowing if it's going to breakdown. I just wanted my car fixed! read more

Since this location of Coast Tire is just up the street from my office, it is super convenient for me. I can just drop it off in the morning for my oil change, MVI, tire change, or repair, and pick it up on my way home after work. I can usually call for an appointment the next day without issue, and they'll tell you how much it will cost - no surprises (unless of course something comes up). So I recently bought a car. I'm not much of a driver, but my husband moved away (temporarily - all OK) with ours and my family is hours away, so we thought it would be a good idea. Just not so good an idea that we wanted to put any money into it. I spent so little on this car I'm embarassed to admit it. So naturally, less than a month in, the exhaust system goes, and you can hear me and my little blue beast on the other side of the city. Yet, early repar estimates were approaching 1/3 of the cost of the dang* car. What is a girl to do? This girl took to the internet. Posting quesitons on Twitter & Facebook and searching reviews on Yelp led me to Coast Tire. They were awesome. They explained the work needed, cost and relative risk considering the age of the car. Not only was their price lower, but when I picked the car up at the end of the day, they had saved me money by doscovering some (small) parts could be reused. Overall, my ride is back looking and sounding as cool as it can considering the rear driver's side door doesn't quite match the rest of the paintjob. *Not the word I was using at the time. read more

Great job. I went in for a tire-swap/oil change, they fit me in same-day, and got the job done efficiently. They even made sure to put synthetic in. I had no idea that my car needed it, but I gave it a try and my engine runs fantastic and the burning oil smell is gone in this older car. The only reason for four stars, not five, is that I was given inconsistent time quotes, and I was not warned of the need to use synthetic as that was a charge we had not discussed. That said, the car runs great and the price was competitive with other garages. I recommend Coast Tire for routine maintenance and tire services! read more

When it came time to replace the tires on our car, I called around to a few tire shops looking for a deal and (hopefully) a convenient time to come in and get the work done. While other places gave me the straight facts, Coast did a lot more and won my business. The person on the phone sent some time discussing the different types of tires and what would make the most sense to buy. He also told me that if I could wait a couple of weeks, there would be a sale on a good quality tire that would save me about $100. Saving money? Sure, I'll wait. When it came time to actually do the work, it was done by the time promised. As anyone who has had to deal with garages, this isn't always the case. I've gone to Coast a few times since then, either to change my all-seasons to winter, or for some tire repair and the experience is always the same- good, friendly service and reliable finish times. $823 later and my interior needs to be detailed. I sent the car in for routine maintenance work and safety. It was completed as expected however what was unexpected was that my door panel would be strained with grease from the technician. Some garages take the care to wash your car when you bring it in. These guys seem to dirty it. If you're driving a beater and can't fix the issue take it here if you care about your car and the condition of more than just the mechanical take your're business elsewhere. Note: they did offer to clean up the mess however I'll take care of it myself if they couldn't be bothered to take care the first time I don't trust them to correct the issue the second time around. read more

took my vehicle in to have a front shock changed. Somehow they convinced me it was a ball joint which they replaced for about $350. Drove it for 1 block & discovered original noise from front end was still there. Took it to the dealer who replaced the shock & fixed the problem. Went back to Coast to complain that they didn't fix the problem & basically got screwed. They offered me a free oil change. Not sure if they are complete incompetent or just a money grab. Use to buy a set of tires from them every year. Guess they thought the $350 was worth more to them than the $30000 i would have spent on tires. Never again!!!!!! read more

The first time I went to Coast for a safety was just because they were in the neighbourhood. However I was impressed that they didn't try to fix/sell me something 'extra' for my 10 year old car. I've suspected that of other places in the past. Anyway, I took it in for winter tire change yesterday and again got quick on-time service with no upsell, even though the tires coming off will need to be replaced, but "in the spring", as they suggested. I've been to this garage a few times now. Once for a clunk in the dead of winter that sounded pretty serious. Turns out it was serious, and they fit me in on the day I called and fixed it. It hurt the wallet, but that was the nature of the problem they fixed. A few months later, another serious sounding clunkfest, which made me grimace every time I drove. It sounded just as serious as the first clunk, if not worse! I was pretty stressed about how I was going to finance this clunk, but, for safety's sake, I took it to Coast again. And here's the thing: even though they probably could have charged me a hell of a lot for "fixing" the problem, which, again, sounded hellish, (I've been to a few places in hfx that would...sadly. ) they instead identified the problem and fixed it quickly, like in 10 mins, and sent me on my way. It was such a relief! I am not even exaggerating when I say that the people at Coast Tire & Auto Service legitimately restored my faith in humanity!!! read more

Mixed feelings on this place. I was new to town so I relied on reviews to pick a mechanic for a lightbulb change and oil change. They did a great job, and were super fast. The part I was not impressed with was on my bill they stated 3 things that needed to be fixed at some point, great! Thanks for the heads up right? Well it was good but they quoted the parts at absolutely INSANE prices. Growing up with a mechanic father I knew it was ludacris and asked why the hefty price. They said it was because my car was rare, and they would have to search extensively for the parts... which I found was complete BS after a few quick calls to part stores in town. Coast Tires planned on charging $1300 for $510 of parts and were by no means rare, I found them at literally every part store I called. I don't know if it was just a bad price search, 1 un-knowledgeable employee, the fact that Im a women, or that I have Ontario plates, but I left with a really scummy feeling after I found out what they had tried to quote. I'd gone here a few times for tire changes and had a good experience. I took my car in for an MVI after a previous experience for mechanical work that left me a little suspect because of the cost, but wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. I expected some work, but they came back and said JUST to pass the inspection would cost me north of $2000 without a real explanation. The bulk of that cost was for my left, front strut ...but replacing one meant I had to also do the other, they said. I declined and took the car to another shop recommended to me. That mechanic took me under the car and showed me what needed to be done to pass the inspection. That work grand totalled at $150 (including the MVI fee) to pass the inspection. I asked him about the struts. He explained it wasn't required to pass the MVI, but still a good idea. That honesty bought him my business and he still saved me $1200 after both struts were replaced in just over an hour. So, my experience with Coast Tire has left me with the feeling that they'll gouge customers looking for an MVI. read more
