I took my BMW to Yuilles for service under warranty a short time after I purchased it. The car had an exhaust leak near the front that I expected to be coming from the manifold connection and a CEL light which indicated that I needed new Vanos Solenoids, which I supplied. I dropped it off and told them what it needed expecting to get it back that afternoon. I was called to say "There are no exhaust leaks, exhaust looks great and we installed the solenoids but nothing has changed so we want to keep the car and run more diagnostics". they kept the vehicle for the entire week and were essentially doing what a DIY mechanic might do, ordering parts to test, returning them and trying other parts. at the end of the week I was told "It looks like you're probably going to need a new engine, yeah sorry for the bad news and it's not cheap, probably $10,000 to $14,000 if we can even find one." I was devastated as I'd only driven the car 1000km or so and paid $14,000 for it. I said I wanted it for the weekend and picked it up. I decided I should put it on ramps and have a look at the exhaust and the leak was VERY OBVIOUS, so I bought the two small gaskets, new bolts and did the repair myself. I had a look at the Vanos solenoids they installed (very easy job, 2 bolts, 2-plugs) and noticed they'd reversed the electrical lines making the computer believe the intake was the exhaust and vice versa, so I swapped them back to the correct position and voila, all problems gone and the car was back to perfect. I went back to tell them how disappointed I was and that I'd not be paying a nickel for their "diagnostics" as the car should have been fixed in only a few hours. So why did they do this, either the worst mechanic in the world or a criminal mechanic looking to buy my car for parts pricing. I would never allow anyone I know to use this service centre and I will certainly never return. On top of it all, 6-weeks later when I changed over to my winter tires I noticed they were totally destroyed. I had only put about 4-5000km on the brand new Pirelli's that came with it so I was shocked.. then I noticed they were Michelin's on my rims. Unbelievable really. Does someone there have a vendetta against me or is this business as usual.. I don't know, but stay away if you own a BMW, or any car for that matter. read more

I've been a customer since 1991, always had great service, and still do ! I highly recommend this place, they are the place I trust.

My last car was a lemon. So I became very well acquainted with this fine establishment. I've had nothing but excellent service here. Let me say, they are very thorough. Which in some ways is both good and bad. But as unpleasant as it may be to get a thorough report card on the state of your car, in the end it's good to know and to make sure everything's taken care of. The mechanics also make a point of taking you inside and showing you the problems. They explain everything in plain language without condescending or making me feel uncomfortable (as someone with little mechanical knowledge). The manager (owner?) has been very good to me. He sat down with me when I finally got rid of my lemon and gave me loads of advice for buying my next used car. Advice that has so far paid off. He even checked out the first of the cars I considered buying at no charge and gave further advice over the phone when I looked at a few other cars. It's a busy spot, but they're always able to fit me in. Yuille also has a dedicated van for their shuttle service, which I appreciate. I highly recommend Yuille Auto Works. read more

I am sooooooo tired of my dealership repairs. The last several times I took my Jeep in for what I figured would be a $200 repair job; they ended up being $700+ Really? I have lost all trust in them. So a friend of mine mentioned Yuilles to me and how good they were to her. I looked for them here on Yelp and sure enough: two glowing reviews. So in I went for an MVI and also knowing that I needed new brake pads. The staff are extremely friendly, funny and informative. A great start. I was given a rough estimate for the repairs and sure enough - they not only predicted the cost, but beat it by $30-50. When has that happened before? I was a happy boy. I was also taken back to view what was wrong with my Jeep and they explained everything in clear, simple language. Auto mechanic, me, not :) All around I had a pleasant experience and will be glad to give them my business in the future. Thanks guys read more

First I need to point out I did not get my car fixed here but am reviewing based on the helpfulness off the staff on the phone. My car died and I needed to get my alternator replaced on a tight budget. I decided to purchase a 2nd had part from a shop in turo to save on cost and then began the fun part of finding a shop to do the work. I had calles 26 places for prices and to see when I could get my car in. Jason or jamie at this shop gave me a price about the same as most places, time for work a little less then most places and went into explaining "if the belt is torn or something" I thought here we go but the part and time would only be 25 for the belt and I was priced more at other places. Jason or jamie also explained that there was no extra charge as the part wasnt purchased there which i didnt consider ans was priced more at other places becauae of this and then despite being blocked he offered to help and do the work sat then said he can do it fri between other appointments to get it to me quicker. The only reason I didnt get my work done there is because my caa tow was used to bring my car home and I had no choice with the funds I have but to use a place just up the street here in halifax however I will remember this place for next time. read more

This is my recent experience with Yuille. I had a BMW with a intermittent transmission code that indicated a bad transmission switch. I phoned Yuille to pre-order the switch and arranged a time to install the switch. I dropped the car off and I received a call saying that there was a new switch already on the car and the problem was likely in the wiring or the computer. They cleaned and checked the wiring and other possibilites. $600 later they told me the car was repaired and, when picking up the car, the trouble light came back on immediately. Must be the wiring, they said. Fix it, I said. The next morning they phoned me and said that it was the switch all along and the problem was now fixed. $700 please. When I make a mistake or a misdiagnosis, I take responsibility and own it. At Yuille, the customer pays. read more

We are relatively new to the area and have gone to a few local mechanics for work on our two Volvo vehicles. We tried Yuille as they are on the Dartmouth side and are reputed to be good European car mechanics and we are so happy we did. The problem we had turned out to be minor (Yeah) but the best part was the Volvo guy they have is an older gent who knows his stuff. Nothing against younger mechanics. We will be making Yuille our new go to place for our European cars. read more

Took my car here multiple times for repairs. They said I needed calipers, rotors, and new parking brake shoes. They were a week late finishing the job. They said the check engine light was the result of a tubing problem. I ordered new tubing and sent it directly to them. They couldn't be bothered to open the package and replace the tubing, saying that they couldn't find the right diagram. I replaced the tubing myself and the light went away. They billed me parts/labour replacing all the aforementioned brake parts. The brakes were good, but my parking brake still would not hold. They tightened the cable, which didn't help. I went there again to have some body work done and an engine mount replaced, hoping it would get rid of an annoying vibration. I paid for the work and when I picked up my car, the vibration was still there and it WOULDN'T GO IN REVERSE. Originally the reverse gear was weak, but was fine so long as you weren't reversing uphill. After having Yuille work on the car, the reverse gear wouldn't work AT ALL. Yuille also told me my car's control arms needed work. I took my car to another mechanic to fix the transmission. I asked about the parking break and on their inspection, they said the PB shoes were worn down, indicating that YUILLE DIDN'T REPLACE THE SHOES. The new mechanic also alerted me about a gasket that was causing oil to leak. When they replaced the gasket, most of the annoying vibration went away. I asked the new mechanic to check the control arms, lo and behold - he said they were fine! Needless to say, I won't be going to, or recommending yuille to anyone any time soon. Sure Jason is friendly and the company provides a shuttle, but I'll take a cab to an honest mechanic from now on. read more

I needed to get a safety inspection. When they checked my car over I was informed it was going to cost me $1,000.00 to have my car pass safety which included all new rear brakes and calibers. I took my car to another garage for an estimate and I was told all brakes did not need to be replaced. I saved $400.00. I would not recommend this repair shop. read more

I've been to Yuille's twice since I moved to Dartmouth and received prompt, reasonably priced service both times! Would recommend.

Initially I had no plans to write this report on Yuille Auto Works but thought to inform the Public before they fool proof their future clients. If you own a foreign car, then take it to a place where the repair can be done appropriately. I took my car to Yuille Auto works for replacement of Backing Brake Plates. Initially Yuilles assessed the repair at $542.00 including labour and parts. When I came the following week, I was told it's going to cost me $777.52 as this was error assessed by the previous customer service attendant. As the parts were not in, I had to wait another week or so. They said it would take 4 to 5 hours to do the job and I waited there to ensure all works are done to my utmost satisfaction. They put my vehicle on the hoist and half an hour later I was called in and said the matter is serious. The mechanic in attendance advised that removing the backing brake plates will result in damaging the "Rear Wheel Bearing" and the "Axel Bearing Carrier" thus adding additional parts of $147 for wheel bearing and $906 for Axel Bearing respectively. The final cost including the labour was assessed at $2,404.27. I told them that I need a second opinion with their unexpected higher cost. Now Yuilles charged me $92.82 for inspecting the brakes. Since they aren't sure to repair this vehicle, they should not have charged me the unnecessary $92.85 service charge, which was inappropriate on their part. I then took my vehicle straight to the Oregan's Mercedes Benz Dealership in Halifax and when they heard what I said about the Yuilles charges, they just laughed at it and said it's always better to take your vehicle where they know it better. It took about 3 hours to do the Job at Oregans's with genuine Mercedes Benz parts unlike the off market parts at Yuille. To do the job at the Oregan Benz Dealership, my final bill came to $904.42. as opposed to $2404.27 at Yuilles. It's a shame that at Yuilles they claim to master foreign car repairs but can't do the job properly. My advice is don't let Yuille open the hood of foreign cars especially made in Germany. Take your vehicle to a place where you can trust and get repaired appropriately. To me both Oregan's and Laurie's Auto Body shop are the most trustworthy repair shops in HRM you can trust! Yuille is out for me for sure!! read more

I've been a customer at Yuille's for a few years now. My father is a mechanic in another province and I always consult with him anytime I need something done. Over the years the quoted price has always been very good for parts and labour. The past few times I've been there My bill has always been upwards of $700.00-$1200.00, again a very good price on all parts. Which brings me to my current visit for an MVI. The vehicle was brought in and came back with an estimate of almost $1100.00 for a new steering rack. I asked if there was anything other than replacing the steering rack that could be done and was told no. I left it as I was going home for Christmas and I knew I could have it looked at while I was home. I ended up getting it repaired for a $24.00 part and has since passed inspection (in NS). I will never return to this business, I feel and this is my opinion only, based on the last 4-6 visits there is a lot of unnecessary work being done, and although the price may seem fair the work may not be needed to be done. I brought my vehicle to 2 other service stations in NS and neither place mentioned the steering rack being a problem. I can't remember the last time I brought my vehicle in and didn't have additional things that need to be replaced. read more

Just a heads up for those who are considering going here for an MVI - got my car inspected 2 weeks ago and was told 3 things that needed to be replaced with a quote of $1500. Being a student on a budget who was unable to afford it at the time, I took my car home and explored other options. I was able to get the parts from a mechanic friend of my Dad and get them put in for a total of $640. I took it back to get the sticker on 2 weeks later, they tried to tell me 2 new things now needed to be replaced for a quote of $1300. I left with my car and made an appointment with a place my friend recommended to me. Just got a call back that my car is ready to be picked up with the sticker on it and no work needed. Clearly they're only interest is getting as much money out of people as possible. Also probably upset at me for not getting the work done there the first time around so decided to make up two new things. read more
