These guys they helped me out over and over with both major issue with my car as well as something as little as fuse at no charge. I live in Halifax and will come over to Dartmouth to get my tires changed my oil done or general work on my car because they go that extra mile for me as well is that I do honestly trust these guys. Cheapy Tire and Auto Repair is just the kind of place they don't make anymore. Honest servicepeople, fair quotes and remarkably good service all combine to make a car repair experience - if not actually pleasant - endurable. Up until recently, we drove an older van. For a while, after my partner moved to this city, we took it to another mechanic which shall remain unnamed. It seemed like every other month we were dropping large amounts of cash into a vehicle that was quickly aging past it's sell-by date. Finally, after asking around at work, I took the van into Cheapy. I don't even remember what we had done the first time, but I do remember that the service was on-time, reliable and wallet-friendly. Jim and Bill really worked with me on numerous occasions to bring repairs in at the lowest possible price. At least twice, they permitted me to make payments on the repair - and drive off in the van before it was paid off. They also replaced turnsignal lamps for me without charge. You just don't find service like that anymore. Last fall, Cheapy was brutally honest with me about the repairs ahead. Based on their evaluation, we opted to lease a new vehicle instead of continuing to repair the van. So they lost money in that aspect, considering that we would have no doubt continued to obtain repair services there. This Cheapy location also sells Wilson gasoline, which offers pennies a litre off the price of the gas when you pay by cash or debit. (Sadly, they don't have pay at the pump. But there's a debit machine inside.) Since I no longer take my car in for repair, I try to stop by for gas as often as I can because I feel as though I am in their debt for all the service and honest advice they gave us. read more

This was the first time I have taken my car to this garage. I took the car in to have the gas line repaired. After the vehicle was on the lift, I found out that I needed to have the back brake lines replaced as well. As a student, I expressed my concern about the price of the additional work. They were really willing to work with me. They cut me a break on the labor costs and got the car fixed. In addition, I was impressed with their service. They had to keep the car overnight to finish the work, and because of this, they offered to take me to the bus station so I had a way to get home. Can't beat that service. Now I'm back because the problem that was told to be fixed is being replaced again. And the telling me they didn't replace it. That they replaced something else. Cheapy Tire has replaced Portland Steeet Honda for repairs and maintenance on my Honda. I am very pleased with the service, advice, and prices that we have gotten from them. In fact, on one job, we saved over $300 over Portland Street Honda. The part we needed was obscure, and we actually found a better price on it than they did, so they let us buy the part and bring it over. There are not many car repair shops around anymore that works with you to get the best price. Kudos to them - we are lifelong customers. read more

I have a 2004 KIA that needed an MVI. Took it to the local KIA dealership and was given a laundry list of issues that they said needed to be fixed. They told me they could fix them for $2,500. Since I had bought the car used for about $2,000, I decided it might be a good idea to trade it in and get something newer. I'm the midst of searching for a car that met my expectations and budget, a friend recommended that I get a second opinion about my car's condition from Cheapy Tire, suggesting that they were more honest than most garages. I can happily say that Cheapy Tire lives up to their reputation and name! Not only did they charge me significantly less than the dealership would have ($800 including labor and a new MVI sticker), but they were exceptionally easy to deal with. 10/10 would get an MVI there again. read more

I went in for a clutch job and a small oil leak (size of a quarter in a few days) came out with exhaust leak, smoking clutch, and a oil leak that mysteriously grew to the size of a dinner plate in a few hours. All of which were not their issue or just temporary and will go away. It really aggrevates me that shops get away with this. My oil leak was there for months and never grew but the morning after i got in the car it was 20X larger. The shop says its just an oil leak that is growing. They get away with murder and just smile. I had to get a front right control arm bushing and alignment (had been told this by two other shops). Called 3 places to get quotes and all places were within $5 of each other. I chose Cheapy because it was close to where I lived, open Saturday, and had good reviews on Yelp. I made an appointment for a Saturday two weeks prior. The guy quoted $150 for control arm replacement, $79.99 for alignment, and I was told would take about 2-2.5 hrs for the bushing work, plus time after for the alignment. I called the day before to confirm my appointment. I was told on the phone that it was weird as they normally don't make appointments on Saturdays; however, the guy on the phone said they had me booked in the computer and I was good to come in the next day. Brought my car in at 7:45am for 8am appointment. There were about 5 other customers already sitting in chairs and the parking lot was completely full. The guy at the front desk was rude and treated me like I shouldn't even be there.. He said they normally don't make appointments on Saturdays and he's not sure who made mine but he shouldn't have; luckily my appointment was shown in the computer. He also began questioning me as to how I even knew I needed these things done to my car (seemed like he was trying to convince me I didn't need the work done... but I told him two shops had mentioned these as things I needed fixed). After our brief conversation, I left my key; he told me would be at least 2.5 to 3 hours, and they would call me when it was done. Around 9:15 he calls and says they don't have time to do the work and didn't do anything at all and to come get my car. He said they're only open until 1 and they don't normally make appointments on Saturdays. I inquired as to why it's 9:15 and my car has been there for an hour and a half already and they are just telling me this, and I don't see the point in him telling me they don't make appointments because regardless of this fact, the guy booked me an appointment and when I dropped my car off they were fully aware of what work needed to be done. Even if the job took 4 hours I dropped the car off at 8 and they are open until 1, and according to them I was the only booked appointment of the day. The guy on the phone was extremely unhelpful, rude, unsympathetic and interrupted me to say "come get your car" so I hung up on him. I HIGHLY do NOT recommend this shop. I don't know why good customer service is so hard to come by these days. It was fairly obvious they were busy when I dropped my car off and it looks to me like they opted to do multiple "quicker" walk in jobs probably for a better payoff then put the time into my longer job, even though I had an appointment and they are open from 8 to 1, which would have been enough time. Definitely will not be back and will be telling everyone I know about my horrible experience at this shop! I would like to add that I was able to find another local shop to do this work the same day and it only took them 2.5 hours. read more

I get it that they can be busy at times, but when asked about making an appointment for a checkup, I was met with "come back later". "When later" I asked, "Just come back later" was the answer. I didn't know much about undercoating so I had a friend give me a list of criteria about what type of undercoat to get (Krown) as well as to make sure that certain parts were covered in the undercoat such as front fenders and inside the doors. After looking at a few places I settled on Cheapy as it gave the best balance of price, quality, and with the Krown undercoat. My wife ended up taking the car in as I had to work at the time of the appointment. She mentioned to me that she had a super pleasant experience and that everyone there was extremely kind, courteous, and respectful. The place was super busy and my wife had to park on the street. When she asked if she would have to pull the car up to the garage they said that they would do it for her. They quoted her an hour for the work, and she expected them to take longer due to how busy things were. Well they didn't finish on time- they finished early. They were even helpful when my wife had to entertain and then later nurse our baby, going so far as to clear out one of their offices for her and making one of their desks available as a change table. From the sounds of it these folks really bend over backwards for the customer. We will definitely be repeat customers in the future. read more

Cheapy tire has the worst service I have seen in a while. I have went there three times to get work done on my car. The first time I showed up to get my transmission fluid change oil change and tires rotated 1030am on a Friday was cut off telling the man on the counter what work I needed done and he just told me we can do that at 2:00pm. So back I went again at 2:00pm. Upon arrival I told the counter what I needed done and was told if you need your transmission fluid change we cannot do that today it takes to long and we close at 530pm. That was fine so I booked an appointment for the next Saturday at 8:00am because he told me I would need to be in early to get that work done. So this morning I went in at 8:00am and then was told for the 3rd time that I would not be able to get that done today because there is nobody there qualified to do that work. Even with an appointment. They should change their name to cheapy service because that is all the service I seemed to get. read more

So, called on Saturday, got a quote. Called on Monday to confirm quote, and got a high price and the worker was very sort with us. Called Tuesday morning to make sure of the price, was given yet another quote but were told that this would be the price. We go in with our very young son to only be told the price would be even higher, almost $70 higher, and that they did not give out any quotes regarding our type of tires. Very unprofessional, deceptive, they need to get their act together. read more
