I DO NOT recommend due to poor Supervisor / Management and Organization skills We completed our first season with Making Waves and really enjoyed the coaches, however, we enrolled our kids in advance for a second season based on the coaches feedback from each session and our observations every week. We came to Making Waves from the Community Center and it was difficult to translate the levels. We signed our son up for Big Wave 1/2 and he was promoted from 1 to 2 on the 2nd class. He continued to perform all exercises at level 2; coaches suggesting he's doing amazing each class, so we enrolled him for Big Wave 3/4 to ensure our spot with no friction. Making Waves cancelled our child's enrolment for 3/4 last minute with the only option to repeat a level at which my child is excelling (1/2). Conveniently the space disappeared online so it feels they needed to make room for another child (Making Waves eliminated Big Wave 3/4 likely creating a ton of friction). Making Waves wants him to repeat level 2. This will not challenge my child to progress, is unfortunate and disappointing. Especially given my child is also asking for harder classes. We won't be going back and recommend parents looking for good management and continued learning growth for their child to seek an alternative school.

Shower and change rooms were very clean and they also have a nice viewing area for the parents. Instructors were really nice and friendly. They were very young but they knew what they were doing. The classes are separated by sections and class sizes are small, which is great because the kids get the attention they need. Highly recommend!

This location has a large upper gym area, a pool, and courts for different sports. They also have classes throughout the day! I guess that's still true but I was surprised at how much the monotone grey-scale of the entire place made it feel cold in here. I guess I'll continue with a couple more critiques. One is that I don't understand why they don't simply keep towel racks in the plus change-rooms as they do at every other Y I've ever been to. It's part of what you're paying for, and though you can get them at the front desk, it just seemed odd that they just won't keep them stocked in the change-room for convenience. The change-room itself was quite small and has virtually no seats which was a bit odd too. Apart from those minor things, the workout area is well stocked and they even have a couple unique things in what is sort of a mini studio in the middle of the workout area. One thing I really appreciate this place as a runner is that their track is longer than most of the other ones as it circles the gymnasium as well. It's nice having longer straightaways so you don't feel like you're turning most of the time. If you're strictly into using weights, they do have what you need here though you can probably find other places to go to for cheaper. However, Y's (including this one) are great for having additional amenities, which includes a full-sized pool, gymnasium, running track, programming for kids and other things. There's also often more a community feel at them and often a chance to make connections too.

I've been here a few times for both skating and lane swim. Staff have always been nice and really…read moremake a point of providing accessibility. They allowed me to goof off in the recreational skating area with a friend in a wheelchair when it wasn't crowded. They have skates for rent and hot chocolate for sale. In terms of swimming, showers are old but work. There is an accessible shower corner with railings, seat and shower hose. Change rooms have ample bench space and you have the choice between coin operated lockers or just leaving your stuff in the cubbyholes. The lanes are WIDE and the pace is much slower than usual. Last time I went, their fast lane was a little crowded and almost everyone was going at a medium pace. The medium lane was extremely slow but I was able to get away with drills and sprints with only two other swimmers in there.

When my first injury occurred I asked them if I could do the weight segment of their workout twice instead of the cardio and they told me they could not accommodate me. When my next injury occurred and I could not do the weights either I put my membership on hold but they put me through hoops to accomplish this. I could barely walk and they wanted doctor notes and x-ray results. It was pretty awful. A few months later they started bothering me again telling me I either had to return to the gym or cancel my membership. I asked if they would charge me to cancel the membership and they told me they would. I stated to them, if they cannot accommodate me and are forcing me to cancel my membership to clear their system I will not be paying one months membership when I cannot participate in the workouts. I went through a bunch more doctor notes to them and head office to prove my case. No, I would not recommend this gym.

To what Mayfair has responded - they are shifting blame towards the members. As this is not an isolated incident; the apparent authority of a membership services employee* and the clubs subsequent failure to take accountability for the loss of their members is extremely disappointing. Their revenues are hurting from the new upgrades and members getting fed up and leaving - it will surely only get worse until they become insolvent.

Finally the change room was re-opened after almost a year of renovation in which members had to…read moretolerate the inconvience of not having a proper change room after a fire. To my surprise, during this month of July, Mayfair was almost filled with students and swimming lessons through the day and members' right as a member are severely compromised. When I try to book a lane swimming this morning, there was almost nil openings until after 7 p.m. I think this is a serious breach of membership's rights under a contract for services with the club and someone should start a class action to seek a partial refund of the membership fees. I look forward to responses from members that will echo my grievances.
