I had to come back to finish where I started. My poor dog, Rhett Butler, hasn't being the same since 6/22/2026. I had a voucher from the Animal Service, for being a senior and retired. I was very please and happy with staff that took care of me that day. The post-op was successful, apparently. He had all his leavened up, vaccines, chip, etc, up to date, with Dr. Carter. The procedure was done on 6/12/2026. 8 days into the post/op, the dog started vomiting non-stop, which left me without a choice of bringing him back. Also I noticed that his bowel movement was coal black. I can't complaint of the second time I visited them. They prescribed the dog Trazodone 2mg and Gabapentin 200mg and gave him an intravenous of vomiting fluids. That night, Rhett didn't wake up for 11 hours straight!!!When he finally woke up, his bed was full of urine and vomit (He's trained to potty outside). He look disoriented and angry (weird behavior, since I have him since he was 5 months old, he's 14, now) I returned the next day and to my surprise, it was a different staff. They took the dog elsewhere for some tests and the gave prescribed generic Carafate (sufralcate 1mg) and a prescription of omeprazole In this visit, the dog was seen by Dr. Mike Curran? and a Technician name, John (very friendly). He informed me that he needed some extra tests done because they have found, anemia in his bloodstream?How a dog have anemia after a post-op? Aren't they supposed to do a blood work, before surgery? The total was $950.00!!! They gave me an appointment 2 days later for other tests. I left the dog 5 hours with them and picked him up around 4:45pm. When he came home, he was scared and anxious and started peeing everywhere and ever since, he doesn't want to sleep in his crate, which is humongous. Now, his favorite spot, is a dark bathroom and sleeping on the floor. The next day, I called them to explain the reason of his behavior, and put me on hold and never came back to my call. Meanwhile that night I cancelled the appt. for their negligence of not following up with me. The dog was already dehydrated and whined all night long. Yesterday, I took him to Verg ER and some of test that were supposed to be done by Coastal, had to be repeated all over again. Another $861.00!!!! To my big surprise, they found that the dog diagnose, was Dog Kidney Disease, stage 3??? How on earth a licensed Vet, would not have that diagnostic from pre up tests, before surgery? Now my dog hasn't eaten in 3 days and he's constantly lethargic and apparently in pain from somewhere. Meanwhile, I have to take him to a Specialist (Nephrologist) on Monday, and I don't have the money for these extra tests and to to cover , Coastal negligence. I've being giving him boiled chicken and rice and the ER gave me 2 pills of Cerenia for his vomit. If something happens to my only company after my husband death, I will take this the Supreme Court, if I have to. He is the only thing I have Some animal clinics, are the biggest scam when it comes to money It's a shame I had to write this long message, because I was so pleased for a few days and my it turned out to be a disappointment with some of the staff. I took my American bulldog to get spayed at this office and I was sent home with this for my dog with this red I don't know what it is be air it looked like the doctor ripped his shirt to put the cone on my dogs neck. My dog got surgery on April 23 2026 and already has an infection due to the doctor not closing her up correctly. Now I was given a prescription and wanted to charge me a 48$ wellness visit for his mistake. The doctor gave me a prescription and told me to go else where to fill it. Very rude, fowl language and do not care for animals like they say. I was told if I have to do surgery it will be expensive because I used a voucher from Pinellas animal services. After all the taxes we pay if I use a voucher so what help me as a resident from Pinellas. But they used my dog as an experiment and send her home with a cone with a red string not a belt or proper collar for the cone. That string was cutting her neck due to the cone being so heavy on her. I've taken my dogs and cats here for 3 years. My dog has gotten ACL surgery and recovered well. They often trim my dogs nails and are very friendly and accommodate my scared dog. I do see a different vet/ tech each time, so it does seem like they keep a large staff or see lots of patients. I've always felt comfortable taking my pets here. I have two puppers who didn't need emergency care but were sick. I called twelve local vets since I'm new to the area. Noone could get them in for days and all just told me to go to emergency vet. I'm not rich and the thought of the cost of two dogs at the ER was frightening. When I called Coastal and told them what was going on with my dogs, they asked the vets and were told to fit them in that day! I, unfortunately, learned my sweet pup is in kidney failure and was devastated. Dr Brooke Certa was so genuinely kind and compassionate as she delivered the news and explained the situation. Considering I came unhinged and was hysterically crying and yet she managed to calm me speak volumes about her bedside manner. My wife and I took all of our animals to Dr. Juan Molina and his staff. 10 years ago I was working out of town when my dog and to this day best friend in the whole world got gravely sick. He was coughing up blood and my wife rushed him to Dr. Juan Molina. Dr. Juan Molina struggled to keep him alive but after several hours was successful in stabilizing him. I immediately flew home that night to see him and was able to spend a few days with him before I had to make the difficult decision to let him go. Dr. Juan Molina if it wasn't for you and your staffs hard work in saving him I would have never been able to say goodbye. He was the most special friend I have ever had and I am forever grateful, I have not and will never forget what you did for him and me. The worst and most uncaring bunch of people that claim to care about animals. 14 year old Yorkie with luxating patella in both legs and cannot walk. They basically called us animal abusers for allowing her to get overweight. She flat out said she would not euthanize our dog unless we did her pain meds and wait loss. You allowed a dog that cannot walk due to fused legs and pain leave as we could not afford your bs treatment. How can you sleep at night? You could have approached this situation differently and got the results you were looking for, but I think you lack the compassion to get it. read more

Let me start off by saying if i could give this place a 0 stars i would. About a month ago my 11 year old Chihuahua was breathing horribly, wouldn't move and was very weak so we rushed him to tampa bay emergency and they informed us that he was in heart failure and had fluid in his lungs. they informed us that he would have to be on medication for the rest of his life including a diuretic which would get rid of the fluid in his lungs. after we saw the Tampa Bay hospital we took him for a follow up at coastal animal clinic where samantha mercado (a very amazing vet) told us to come in if he ever had a breathing issue and i was seriously worried. on Friday january 5th he started have extreme trouble breathing and i KNEW something was horribly wrong, so i called my mom and she got them to give us an appointment. when we got there we got him signed in and we were met with "DR. Mike" if you can even call him that. He refused to check his breaths per minute, heart rate, temperature or breathing. He pretty much talked to me like i was stupid and crazy for bringing him in, he told me that "he was in NO pain" "was fine" and told me not to bring him in until he hadn't eaten for 3-5 day in a row and was passing out and his gums were bright blue. HE DIDNT EVEN CHECK HIS GUMS TO START WITH! Later that night at about 11 my dog was seriously in trouble i stayed up with him all night long were he was coughing, couldn't catch his breath and was using his whole body to try to breathe, the best way i can describe it was that he was drowning, he was refusing to take his medicine. He wouldn't eat anything that we gave him and he wouldn't drink water. On saturday January 6th i rushed him to Tampa Bay Emergency where they did minimal bloodwork and an x-ray and they saw that his lungs were completely filled with fluid. His bronchial tubes on one side were completely collapsed, and the other side was collapsing. He was in extreme heart failure, and he had to be placed in an oxygen tent because he would have passed out if he wasn't. our vet at Tampa Bay emergency gave us the choice to put him down or to keep him in the hospital for the rest of his life to see if we could possibly get him out of heart failure. we chose to help him move onto heaven. Where he's no longer in pain and is in peace. This is disgusting. I knew there was something wrong and I told Dr. Mike and Dr. Mike DID NOT listen. If you're ever truly worried about your animal, and are met with this type of uncaring behavior, take your animal to another vet, because if we would've taken my dog to another vet to start with, he might still be here. Recently, my 3-year-old cat Milo had some issues, and I had to take him to a vet for a checkup. I had a follow-up appointment but he needed to be seen sooner as his condition was worsening. They couldn't get him in any sooner and suggested I contact Coastal to see if they could get him in. This was after Helene and 2 days before Milton so life was a little chaotic for everyone. I called Coastal and they could see him right away. They were short-staffed due to the hurricanes and people were calling to get their pets seen before the storm. Even though they were short-staffed and the impending storm was heading toward us, Dr. Rametta spent 2.5 hours with me and Milo running tests, discussing options, and so forth. She and all the staff never tried to rush us out; they took the time to keep assessing his symptoms and looking for solutions, even if it was temporarily to get us through evacuating and returning. Dr. Rametta kept me informed every step of the way and kept costs in mind when suggesting tests or treatment options. I am very impressed with the level of care from ALL the staff who treated Milo. If they had not had me bring him in that morning, I'm certain my cat would not have made it more than a few days. I'm happy to have found a vet practice for Milo, especially since I haven't had much luck getting appointments in a reasonable timeframe since his previous vet retired. read more

I have been going to Coastal Animal Clinic for almost 30 years. The doctors are all the most caring, helpful, knowledgeable, and listen well to what is going on with your precious fur baby. The rest of the office staff are the same. Every single time I call for my Kitties or pups, they fit them in quickly and are most helpful. I have to say for those of you who want to know, they are very reasonable too, they have never overcharged me on anything, and I know this by talking with friends that take their babies to other vets and the prices their vets charge for same procedures. This is the best vet office I have ever been to! They're so good with my kitty, Magic. I found out today he has advanced periodontal disease and was an absolute wreck all day worrying about him. They called me with updates on how he was doing throughout the day and explained the entire procedure to me before hand. They even let me see the extracted teeth which was pretty cool! Magic has been so sick that we've been in twice in two weeks and they take amazing care of him! He may only have 7 teeth now but I won't trust anyone else with his care now. They're so kind in through in everything that they do and I love how they take extra time to explain all the details. I feel so much better knowing he's in such good hands! read more

Bought a puppy from Blue Sky Puppies. They sent us to Coastal for the first puppy visit for warranty compliance. We trusted that they would inform us of any health issues. They did nothing but sale us meds. Nine months later when the puppy had x-rays at an ER, we were informed that the puppy had severe hip dysplasia and would need a full hip replacement. I contacted the Puppy store that requested the puppy be seen by their vet Coastal Animal Clinic per Florida Statue 828.29 to comply with the warranty. Dr. Brooke Certa did the paperwork which included the hip issues. After going through the paperwork I can see on these things listed on the health certificate (hips are in a code that a normal person would not understand). When I called the clinic today and asked why they did not tell me about these issues at the first visit I was told it is not their responsibility bc it was on the health certificate that they created. Could that be because they sign you up for an insurance plan to pay for the first visit and know that they dog has pre-existing issues? They also tried to sell me pain meds after me telling them that the dog is not in pain and her vet suggested to wait on the invasive surgery. This company is definitely covering up for the puppy mill store. BEWARE! I have made a complaint with Dept. of Business Regulations against this establishment and the USDA and Humane Society on the pet store and Cynthia Davies, registered agent of Blue Sky Puppies. read more

Brought in my cat who was sneezing and had running eyes and running nose. Vet examined him and gave the cat fluids and we left with medication. The next morning the cat was in distress and was having issues breathing and sounded extremely congested and was lasargic and not eating. Called the office and tried to bring him in asap and was told the owner of the clinic (vet) was on duty and they would give him the message and he would call me back. After not receiving a call back I contacted the office (during regular business hours) and their voicemail was on. Left a message and again requested a return call and said I hope your not blowing us off. Needless to say we did not receive a call back and ended up taking the cat to the emergency CARE clinic. We were advised that the amount of fluids the cat received from Costal Animal Clinic the day before was excessive and caused the cat to go into congestive heart failure. The cat spent the next several days being treated for the excessive fluid which compromised his heart and lungs and we spent several thousand dollars for the treatment cost. 1) Extremely disappointed that Coastal's mistreatment of our animal almost killed him and cost us thousands of dollars. The cat is still on medication due to their giving the cat excessive fluid. 2) Extremely disappointed that they didn't care enough about a cat in distress to get us in that day or to even call us back during regular business hours. 3) Extremely disappointed that they didn't even call on the next business day for blowing us off and not seeing the cat or calling. We've started going to this clinic when it was Andes and stayed with it when it became Coastal. We have always had great care for our dogs and cats. When we've had to let them go, The people that work here have always shown great compassion. I don't think they are any more expensive than any other vet around and yes sometimes it cost more than what was originally told but they have always given us the choice on whether we wanted that extra service or not. Even though they may recommend the extras, we have never felt pressured into accepting them if we felt it wasn't necessary at this time or we could not afford it. I have had no issues with this vet until today. While waiting in the lobby with my 8 year old nephew for our pup to be seen, a family comes in with their dog to be euthanized because he was old and in pain that could no longer be managed. We were taken into a room right by the front door with a giant window to the outside. We watched the family mourn and leave. As we were waiting to pay we see an employee walk out to make sure the family's car is gone and then another technician proceeded with the dog in a garbage bag through the WAITING ROOM on a stretcher to the dump. NO ONES PETS SHOULD BE TREATED LIKE THIS. My 8 year old nephew was HYSTERICALLY crying in the car. This was the location in Largo off of HIGHLAND AVE. Animal services is involved. read more

Typically I have great experiences here. Except recently. Normally I was able to pick up my cats food at the clinic making it very easy, but they stopped ordering the food. They gave me my cats prescription which does no good as the food they prescribed they don't hold in stores, why prescribe a medicated food that you or local shops don't hold? Maybe don't advertise in your front area "super easy delivery to your house" if you don't offer it. They told me they could order it but couldn't tell me when it would be there, as "the company is not reliable"Then they told me I could order it online at chewy.com but to basically figure it out myself. I had asked for an alternative brand just to get by until the order gets to my place, the male receptionist (who is always bothered to be working btw) told me he would call me back and let me know. They called me 5 hours later to tell me they could print her prescription to pick up to food somewhere... ‍so unhelpful. read more

This office is amazing. I've visited several vets and this place is by far my favorite! The staff is SO NICE. The Drs are down to earth and wear their hearts on their sleeves. We've brought 9 animals to this vet for various reasons and each time they treated us and our animals with genuine concern. They've assisted us with a cremation and an adoption as well. They've squeezed us in for appts when they could. There is a groomer there that we've used. I am thankful for their care. Ive been here 4 times on the referral of a friend (she frequented this clinic when it was previously owned). Every time I come in I wait 30+ minutes, I am charged MORE than what I was originally told and even when Im told one price upon checking out, another person comes up and says its more money. My first visit was with a sick elderly dog who had a UTI, they made him wait days before finally approving the antibiotics. Yes we had an appointment bc he was having issues w peeing. When I called I kept getting told the medicine would be called in. After 2 days of this I asked for a manager and I was told by Opal, there was nothing that could be done and I had to wait until the office manager is back in the office. What!?! So my 12 year old dog had to deal w a uti for days until it was resolved. Poor thing was in so much pain. I was livid but Vicki the office manager said that was a fluke and never happens. So I scheduled a litter of puppies to be seen and vaccinated. I asked for an estimate to be emailed to me, never received it. And this visit also ended up being more than I was told over the phone but never given the emailed estimate like I asked. When I brought the pups in for checkup and vaccines, i was required to leave the puppies there from 9am to about 2 or 3pm. When I picked them up I was not allowed to see the vet but had to pay over $500. Not explained the issues they had but was told two had worms, then told I had to wait 3 to 4 weeks before bringing them back after worms. What!?! Ive never heard such a thing. I brought them to my regular vet 3 days later and had a negative fecal exam.They did issue a health cert after the other vet provided the fecal results as clear. (Ill give credit when credit is due). And they did have the doctor call me back since I was not allowed to see them when picking the pups up. When we picked the puppies up they were covered in eachothers pee and fecal matter, likely why we were given the 2 tubs of puppies and told we couldnt see the doctor. We had to ride home w the windows down because it was so over powering. Today I have to go in for the final shots and guess what... was charged more this time too. The lady at the front desk gave me a price, I went to bring my pup to the car and came back in to another woman who then charged me more than I was just told. They also did not perform the rabies vaccine even though I called and said I didnt want to schedule this appointment unless I could do all together and was told yes over the phone. I did not realize they did not do the rabies vaccine until my drive home. I called and spoke w Stephanie (the new office manager) who told me I was misinformed but would have to pay for another office visit to have the rabies vaccines done. I corrected her and said I was lied to, not misinformed, and thats when she became condescending and calling me pet names. (I work in customer service, when you have someone who is unhappy w services or worse, was told something different by your staff, you dont talk down to them or laugh at them when the unhappy customer is speaking or even worse, telling me to deal with it). I asked her to please be respectful and refrain from calling me hun, honey, sweetie. Etc. She continued and I asked if she could have Vickie call me back bc thats who Ive spoken to before. She told me shes the office manager and I can talk to her or no one at all. I explained she is not helping the situation and is being quite rude and Id like someone more professional. At which point she told me I was nasty and hung up on me. Not once did I yell, not once did I call her a name, not once did I do anything other than express my issue. Seems like its alllllll about the money. Oh and reviews... they ask for reviews and have QR codes and fliers posted all around the office, asking for reviews. When I said I would be leaving a review letting others know about the issues Ive had and condition of my pups and of the price differences Trevor asked me not to multiple times. Shows they care more about their reputation than the animals. Clearly the actual wellbeing of the dog means didly, found that out w my older dog. Will not be returning and sorry I ever went to this establishment. If I get the call back from vickie I requested, Ill update on the outcome. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Dr Certa and his team!! We just relocated to the area and were referred to Dr Certa by an emergency clinic (and a colleague!) for our dog's dental issues. They were fantastic and got us in the next day! They were so kind and patient with our senior dog; the diagnosis was quick and they got him in the same day for the extractions. The entire process was explained to us every step of the way! The entire team blew us away with how much they care for their patients. The price was very reasonable too! Very good experience. Took our dog here yesterday and the staff was professional and considerate. The doctor and technician spent an ample amount of time diagnosing Maddie's issues and offered to run some in-house tests. Around 30 minutes later, Maddie's problems were diagnosed and they seem to have found a solution to correct her issues. They administered meds on-site. Love taking my three cats here! Incredibly friendly and attentive staff, and I never have to worry about anything in regards to updated medication as they are quick to call and even text! Medication for my hyperthyroid granny cat is pretty affordable which makes me stress less about taking care of her medical needs, and the staff are wonderfully informative about any kinds of treatments available too. It's somewhat small office, but it's nice and cozy and not too loud or disruptive when having to bring any of my felines in. Would highly recommend anyone to give this vet a try! read more

The staff at Coastal Animal Clinic is extremely friendly, caring and knowledgeable. They saved the life of my rescued Maltese by removing her extremely infected uterus and caring for her skin condition caused by an allergic reaction to multiple flea bites. I have returned twice without appointments with questions about her skin and/or medications. Both times I was greeted with a smile, never felt rushed and was not charged. I left feeling confident with the answers I received and my dog has improved greatly under their care. I plan on trying the grooming services soon now that her hair is growing back. From what I understand the owner of this clinic works to help rescue groups which says a lot to me. read more
