So disappointing. To say I'm disappointed seems like a understatement. At first looked like a job well done but a couple of weeks after fence was installed the post next to the door started shift. It was damaging the door. We contacted Randy multiple times and nothing. Had to keep calling and finally someone came out. They did a temporary fix because he said he was not equipped to fix it that day. And did they come back? NO. and now the post is shifting even more so getting hard to open the door again. My husband has tried over and over again to get ahold of someone to fix this to no avail. For the price it cost not worth it. I will go with someone else next time. Do a good job and fix your mistakes not doing so is not a way to run a successful business. read more

Very frustrating and very unprofessional. We hired this company to install a 2-rail ranch style fence back in 2008. Their price was fair and the work seemed good at the time. Since then, they've had to come back out twice to replace several fence posts that rotted due to the concrete not coming up high enough to prevent water from pooling around the base of the posts. Fast forward to June 2024 and we have several more posts that need replacement. I'm not kidding when I say we've left FOUR messages but no return call. I requested a quote and took the afternoon off from work for a video meeting with an estimator to show him my fence. After a few days, I reached out to him. He still did not send a quote. I messaged the office and told them I was still waiting for a quote. Here it is a week later. I have no quote and no calls. I guess they don't need my small job. In the meantime, I have reached out to a different fence company that came out personally and gave me a quote about 45 minutes later. read more

This is by far the most frustrating company I've dealt with. Once they do their work, they don't want to do the final walk through with you. The demand payments and bully their customers. Their lack of availability to collect payments or schedule a final walkthrough is completely unacceptable. Customers can't just take time off work to pay you and meet you at your convivence, i.e. Mon-Friday 10-2pm. I have the message they sent. If you can't meet them at their convenience, then, they change their face completely and threaten to charge interest and hand to collection service. Horrible!!! Be very careful what you're getting yourself into. They're very fake and irresponsible. I contracted Coastal Lumber to replace a fence a few years ago. Since then, I've had 3 fence posts break. I called them to repair the posts since I am still under warranty and they agreed to send a field agent to inspect the fence to assess the repairs. The problem is that once they figure out that you are calling to claim a warranty repair, they stop answering the phone, they don't return calls, or call back hours later just before the office closes so you have to leave a voice message that will never be returned. The Field Operations Manager, Field Reps, and the Office Reception gal are all terrible at customer service when it comes to warranty work. Getting a bid for new work I imagine is red carpet treatment until you need a repair. After talking to neighbors to get other referrals for repairs, I started to compare quality of the work of my neighbors fences to the fence Coastal Lumber installed on my property and I have come to realize the quality of their work is just garbage. The Coastal Lumber craftsmanship is just sub par to all the other fences my neighbors had installed and they paid less than I did. I feel ripped off. I would NEVER refer anyone to this company for any fencing need. With so many other quality fencing companies out there, save yourself the money and the grief of having to work with Coastal Lumber. If you do, you may regret it when it comes to warranty services. They just plain suck at that too. read more

With the windy and rainy early part of the year, our fence got knocked down. I spent a good amount of time looking at different companies, seeing photos of completed projects, reading reviews, but in the end, I couldn't decide, so got quotes from a few different companies. What set Coastal Lumber apart was really just one thing: The estimator who came out reviewed the fence, the good parts and the bad parts, and worked to find solutions that were less expensive. In fact, even when I didn't balk at certain materials, he was quick to point out that what I was thinking was overkill. Later, when the neighbor we shared the fence with asked about CC vs. CH wood, she leaned towards the more expensive CH (something I would have done too, had I thought of it), but Coastal Lumber pointed out that if we wanted it, he'd be happy to oblige, but the current fence we are replacing had plenty of CC wood that was still more than fine, despite it being 20 years old. So while we could get better quality wood, it wouldn't make the fence last any longer. None of the other fence companies I spoke with had the same critical eye towards the construction and materials. The other companies simply said "yeah, sure, we can do that" without any consultative push back to prevent my neighbor and I from wasting money. For some parts, Coastal could have easily gotten my neighbor and I to agree to more expensive materials, and could have suggested construction that would have taken more hours and cost us more. But in each case, Coastal focused on right-sizing the project instead of padding here and there. That. That right there. That's why we chose Coastal. And the finished product? I don't know much about fences, but it looks pretty damn good, feels solid, and I'm confident that the higher concrete crowns will help prevent the base of the support posts rotting. The salesperson initially gave me a competitive pricing to beat my other bid. However, upon closer inspection of the quote, I realized it quoted Doug Fir. When I called the salesperson and asked him to quote me for redwood instead, he claimed that Doug Fir is better than redwood. After researching, I found that redwood is superior to Doug Fir. I insisted on getting a quote for redwood, and the salesperson provided another quote. Unfortunately, after reviewing the new quote in detail, it only included redwood posts. Contacted Coastal via email and right away was called to set up a quote from Oscar, we set the date and he came out on time and measured (explained city regulations and provided suggestions) and provided the quote (the quote was very fair and within the price range among the others) within a few days. Jorge and Jose were out the 1st day (we chatted on what I was expecting and what needed to be done) and got to work clearing the area and putting in the post and boards. Hunter was GREAT! It's rare to find someone this dedicated to working with customers, and explaining in detail what was going to happen. We were looking for 100 feet of 6' Con Heart redwood Fencing on the back side of our corner lot house, along with a new Redwood Entry on the sidestreet. We also wanted 127-foot, four-foot-tall Wrought Iron fencing in front of house, to replace rotton split rail existing fence. He made four or five trips to zero in on what we wanted., and put together a very professional looking quote. Unfortunatly, He wasn't able to get the wrought iron fencing and we ha to go with another high quality firm to get that, (for more $$$ of course). We felt bad about it as Hunter worked so hard, but That's why I'm doing this review as he really earned it! We completed a 70ft long rear fence replacement project with Coastal Lumber in Feb. It took less than 10 days from the first call to the completion of the project. This was one of the best customer service experiences I have had in a long time, quick response, follow-ups, competitive pricing, fast scheduling, and quality work. Randy was the central point of this experience and he did a great job of managing the whole process without missing a beat! Also, the fact they have their own lumber yard gave them the advantage in the pricing and more importantly the supply assurance during COVID. We had a very small project. A gate and a little bit of fencing. Randy had a crew out mid June. There is a 2 inch gap between the gate and the fence, The middle board of the gate is bent back and the gate is crooked from the top to the bottom. We called Randy many times to have him come look at it. He came out about 3 weeks ago and blamed my husband for not getting paint on it right away. My husband is a paraplegic. Nearly 4 months we've waited. He is not going to make this right. We had such a bad experience with this company. Be careful using Coastal Lumber. read more

The fence came out looking great, but rather disappointed with the following: - The pickets they used was supposedly from a new vendor (who cuts the wood?) and these pieces were HEAVILY infested with termites. Meaning, visualize hundreds of flying bugs the moment they installed these pieces. Was told they would 'seal' the wood but it didn't make sense since we were painting the fence. I wish when the installers noted the infestation that they would have not installed these pieces. - They broke TWO water lines. One we noticed right away and the other we noticed when the ground began to deteriorate. Randy was our sales person. Fine guy, who said while pitching the project 'the guys are careful about water lines' then when we pointed out the issue used the assumptive 'I'm sure you read the contract and saw we are not liable for the lines'. Anyhow, they replaced one area that they broke that we had noticed before paying them. We handled the second larger issue that we just discovered weeks after install as the ground literally fell away. Overall I give them a 3.5 stars. I think the project came out great but would have preferred to not have to have dealt with the two issues mentioned above. The installers could have easily 1.) not installed termite infested wood, and 2.) alerted us immediately when they broke the water lines. read more
