I went in to Coastal on Saturday morning looking to purchase an electric mower. I was looking around for a few minutes and no one approached me to help. After a couple more minutes, I asked a lady working close by for help, and she said she would get someone. I then waited several more minutes, and no one ever came over to help me. I then just walked out, clearly feeling that the employees could care less if they got a sale or not. I then drove to Botello and checked on a Toro electric mower. The man there, was very helpful, but I wanted to check out Ace in mashpee. I am so glad I did! The young man that helped was very knowledgeable about these mowers. I wish I could give no stars. We brought a mower in and the person was rude telling us to just buy a new one. It was only 3 years old And we purchased it there. When it was returned it was so hard to pull the cord that the mower was difficult to start. Since they took so long to service it and because they were so rude, we did want to go back. What a great store. These guys have it all with very competitive pricing. Pretty much anything you need for any size project, during any phase, is right here. I was told the only items they don't rent are toilet snakes (can you blame them for not wanting to clean them after being used!) and pole chainsaws (the reason for that is safety. They don't want someone dropping a saw on themselves. Imagine THAT cleanup.) This location also sells equipment and has a comprehensive parts department. If it is not in stock they can order it for you as well. They also offer service on just about any piece of equipment or tool that might need some fixin' or maybe just a tune-up. I have had to deal with Coastal Equip. for landscape equip. Their customer service department is awful. Buy there, service elsewhere. Those are my recommendations. Recently went back to coastal looking for a snowblower. Stood around for awhile watching two employees shoot the breeze with some regular. That's ok. I was looking for an Ariens blower. They had maybe two on display, the rest being Husky's . I know, after doing my research that both use the same engines which are now made in China. So as a test, I ask the guy sitting behind the desk where are the engines made. He says "I don't know". Really? I took a brochure and left. Got the same ( and it is the same) Ariens model at Lowes. Free delivery, and cheaper than Coastal. Don't go here. read more

I went on Yelp to get the phone number of Coastal Equipment Rentals to reserve a chain saw. The negative reviews make me very suspect. I have purchased several pieces of lawn equipment and have rented many pieces of equipment from Coastal. Always professional and always very helpful weather it be Bill Johnson or any of the staff, even get GREAT advice from many of the other trades that shop at Coastal Equipment. I do not understand the negative reviews If you want professional equipment or need to rent equipment please consider this retailer. Coastal Equipment Rentals stand behind their products and the staff are always ready to give good and positive advice. I have been a customer for 5yrs and make this place the 1st place to go. Awful customer service...bet you've never heard that about this place before. Dropped off a battery powered Stihl trimmer for sharpening. Tested it before we dropped it off to make sure battery was fully charged and it was. Picked it up a few days later, went to use it & it wouldn't work. Made a brief click sound when I pulled the power trigger, then nothing. Called CER & told them the issue. They had us drop it off so they could check on it. 2 weeks & a few phone inquiries from us go by & they call back to tell us they don't work on Stihl equipment & we should take it to Bothelos. (good info to have after 2 weeks go by) I asked what they planned to do about the issue & the equipment manager said their sharpener guy didn't touch the engine so it must be broke. I responded to asking if it may be that the cutting bars are misaligned from the sharpening & his immediate response was "not possible". There was some additional back & forth between us over how that conclusion was arrived at & it went nowhere We picked it up, brought it to Bothelos & they identified the problem & fixed it right away...cutting bars were misaligned & catching on each other because they were not properly aligned after sharpening....what an epic revelation!! To wrap this review up, CER lost a town account basically over laziness, stubbornness & apathy. I don't recommend CER for anything because everything starts with customer service, which is the main thing this company is lacking. The person who worked on our home rented a piece of equipment from Coastal Rentals and it leaked hydraulic fluid in many places on our driveway. To his credit, the person we hired let Coastal know immediately they needed to pick up the equipment and get rid of the stains it left. After a few hours, a guy came and made a slight, ineffective effort to remedy the damage to our driveway. Were not impressed by his seemingly nonchalant attitude. He did not apologize until he was asked for an apology. He said something like, "Are you looking for something particular from us?" Yes, dumbass, an apology! If you need to buy supplies for your equipment, they are a fine store to purchase from. But do not expect them to service or care about your tractor, mower, power equipment whatsoever! Their service dept and management department just want your money. They do not care about satisfying their customers needs, nor "doing the right thing". Do yourself a favor and buy from a trusted, reputable company. These guys cant be trusted! read more

STAY AWAY! Where to begin. In April of 2017, I bought a 42" Husqvarna lawn tractor here. Almost immediately, the gears started getting stuck, finally resulting in a complete transmission failure, which caused me to nearly roll backward over a stone wall. They picked it up, 4 - 6 weeks, they told me, which seemed like a very long time, and eventually told me it was grass stuck in a difficult place in the back. Weird, huh? Grass getting stuck in a lawn mower? Put it away for the winter when I got it back in late November. Problem began immediately, again, when I took it out last spring. Turns out, this mower was sold to me with a defective transmission, which Husqvarna admitted to. CER picked the mower up in June, again with the 4 - 6 weeks wait, as if people don't need their mowers in June and July (hire some mechanics!). Husqvarna sent the new transmission, but it was only after calling the attorney general's office that Husqvarna agreed to extend the warranty for the new transmission, despite admitting to the mower being sold with a faulty transmission. I asked ECR to change the oil, check the belts, that kind of thing, while they had it. Figured it would be @ $100, which I thought was steep but everything is expensive. No. Wrong, it was $300!!!!! They gave me some malarkey about how it took them an hour and a half (so billed for two hours). Hogwash. How can it take two hours to sharpen a blade, change the oil, spark plug and tighten belts?? He told me they sharpened "both blades". I told him there is only one blade. I was told I was wrong. I told him I had changed the blade myself at least two times. I was still wrong. After getting it back, on the last mow I hit a rock, so I checked under the deck to see if I had damaged the blade. There were two blades! They had put a whole different deck back on my mower! I called Tom, he again told me I was "mistaken" when I said that I had had only one blade, which is always fun, being told you're crazy and can't distinguish between one and two blades when changing them! Then he told me that all 42" mowers have two blades, that the 36" models have one. I said, "So, what you're telling me is that you charged me for a 42" model, sold me a 36" model with a defective transmission, AND charged me $300 to change the oil." CLEARLY this mower was unloaded on me. I told Tom that I had tried to be patient and to work with both them and Husqvarna but that I had only been beaten up and ripped off by both of them, treated very poorly, and that I was done with ECR (and Husqvarna). A lot of companies will actually compensate you for their mistakes, but not ECR! They expressed absolutely NO contrition for the relentlessly poor treatment, service, even charging me for a 42" while selling me a 36", $300 for an oil change...nothing. When I made it clear I was disgusted that they had offered absolutely NO restitution and had made this situation a lot uglier than it had to be, he said he'd speak to his boss and call me later that day. That was three days ago. They could care less. They got their money, and that is all they care about. I do not understand why it is so impossible for so many businesses to just admit they were wrong and take responsibly for it, but not only can so many not do that, those are the ones who make the customer feel like THEY'VE done something wrong! Stay way from this unethical company which thinks nothing of ripping people off while holding their mowers and snowblowers, etc., for two months for repairs during the season they are needed. Total joke of an outfit. And Husqvarna was awful as well. read more

I signed the rental agreement assuming the fuel tank was full. I returned it with more fuel than it came with. They charged me forty dollars more for fuel. Very rude response from customer service. Basically calling me a liar and ripping me off. Won't step one foot in the place again. read more

So I chose this business to rent a thatcher for a half day. I showed up at 12 noon, when I was supposed to. The customer who rented it during the morning (half day rental) hadn't returned the unit yet. I waited an hour and a half for the customer to return the thatcher, that this business inevitably charged a full day rental fee, for being so late. They then turned and attempted to charge me a full half day rental, when I only had an hours time to get it home, use it and then return it before the business closed (half day rental entitles you to 3 hours). I argued the point and was able to rent it for $20 (a half day rental fee is $45) I promptly returned the unit by 2:30, less than an hour after I left with it. I received a phone call this morning, three days later, explaining that I still had their equipment and I would be charged for all of these days usage. I explained, as politely as I possibly could that if my card were charged, I would sue. That I returned it Saturday afternoon, one of their employees helped me unload it!!! I spoke with a manager who calmed the situation down, and understood that I had indeed returned the equipment and my card would not be charged. I briefly explained to this helpful manager that I chose to rent from this company because they seemed to have the best deals, but after this experience, I will never be back, he then explained to me that they, by far, are not the best deal on cape, in fact, he admitted they're a RIP OFF!!! I can't explain in words how rude his employees were on Saturday and again today, words won't do it justice.
