And I opened the account simply for convenience as the branches are spaced across the South Shore where I frequent. The best thing I have experienced here is the customer service. Friendly, professional people help you out with whatever services you may need. No one turns their head, pretending to not see you! This makes it easy to get in & get out, particularly during the pandemic. At my local branch, the interior is still locked with the lobby ATM open. Twice now, while paused in what I was doing, bank personnel have opened the door to see if I needed assistance (i did). Just opened the door without me banging on it! Like - I was a customer who needed help! The ATM gives $10 bills, the employees are helpful & courteous and they give a decent rate of interest. My short wish list is checked off at CHB!

However due to recent issues with the credit union I like many consumers now a days threatened to close my checking and savings accounts. Now I know there must be people out there who have banked here for years longer than me but I recieved no sympathy from the teller closing my accounts. He did not try to save my account or apologize for the constant issues. It makes me sad to write this review since I was such a fan of this bank prior to the issues. However I have to say this credit union has changed and is no longer the bank down the road with friendly helpful faces. No it has now become a chain with low customer service standards like many other banks.

The one & only positive thing that I can say (also why I gave 2 stars rather than 1) is that he responded to our initial inquiry quickly. Unfortunately, after that he showed nothing but rudeness and arrogance. When I pointed out a rather serious error that he had made on our mortgage application, he became argumentative. Furthermore, neither he, nor his processor sent any of the documents that we needed to complete for approval. When I reached out to him about that matter, he was once again rude and dismissive, telling me that I was wrong. While I cannot speak on other branches, I do not recommend contacting this location.

When I attempted to transfer monies from my existing financial to Bluestone I found out that it electronically takes 1 week. One day after the allotted time had passed, I tried to log-in to my account to no avail. I contacted the main office, and after a brief time on hold, the rep came back and said that my account has been closed due to a zero balance! Are you kidding me?? This was the worst banking experience I have ever been a part of in my 70+ years and if I could have rated it less than 1, I would have done so!

Jack McMullen Some Thoughts on the way Citizens Bank Handled…read morea Recent Branch Incident in December 2022 I banked with Citizens (and its predecessor banks) in Burlington, Vermont and Cambridge, Massachusetts, the former for 27 years and the latter for over 40 years. For all of that time I had cordial relations at both locations and with the managers and tellers resident in the two branches I used in each city. Burlington branch is terrific. Central Square Cambridge has become another story. For most of my 40 years of patronage the branch served me well. I was a satisfied customer. Then late in 2022 the management and many of the tellers in that branch were changed over wholesale. They do not know their customer and apparently don't care to. They changed long standing practices which led to a heated dustup with one of the new tellers transferred from elsewhere (my fault for losing my temper with her and her fault for total inflexibility in insisting on rejecting a deposit containing a check deposited the old way for more than a decade). Ironically, after I left the branch I walked to the Portland Street branch nearby and deposited the rejected check (so resisted by that new teller) without incident. Then instead of asking for a meeting about the incident, the bank simply sent a pre-emptive letter closing my seven accounts, corporate and personal, blowing up my ability to operate and receive direct deposits (SSN check and other links). The letter said the decision was final, do not contact the bank. The letter gave 30 days grace but was sent to my Vermont office so only 10 days remained when I returned there from Cambridge. Needless to say when an action like this is taken the bank knows full well the disruptive effect it will have and doubtless intended that. It has taken hours upon hours to restore my ability to operate my business and personal accounts. Despite over four decades of fairly good experience with Citizens (and its predecessor banks) I cannot recommend a bank that acts in such a summarial manner and potential customers reading this report should not take the risk of banking there either.
