They separate dogs by temperament, so that high energy dogs like ours get to hang out with like-minded dogs instead of overwhelming the more laid-back ones - benefiting both the quieter pups and our very enthusiastic, very friendly buddy dog. The facility -scratch that- the resort looks amazing, inside and out - it honestly looks like anything a dog could want out of a doggy hotel, and honestly it looks better than a lot of human hotels, too! The first time I left my dog for boarding, I thought she'd be happy to see me, but she almost turned around and went back inside, lol Chani doesn't require a lot of grooming, so I can't speak personally on that account, but I usually get her nails trimmed there, and she always comes out looking her best. The people there are always positive and upbeat when I've gone, and you can tell they love their jobs and care about the pets they're entrusted with. They're my go-to when we go traveling, and the basic package is very reasonable and has everything you need to take care of your dog. They also have tons of fun add-ons (which can stack up when you're not looking, hehe) that let you make the experience that much better for your pup while you're away. Chani has boarded twice for several days each, and has gone typically about once or twice a month for socializing, grooming, nail trimming, fun, etc. I will continue to use their services for as long as I'm in the area, and I'd recommend them to anyone who wants to have peace of mind when it comes to making sure their furry friends are taken care of.

Check in was efficient after an employee took them back I never got any updates while I was away. It would seem to be an easy text to assure me that they were safe and doing well. A picture or two would have been welcomed. When I asked how they did the person taking my money said "fine". That s didn't settle for me. The price charged was a lot and I couldn't afford all the extras like play time with the other dogs for $20+ per day per dog so I could see them play on a camera. I thought that would be part of boarding. Not here. It is a beautiful building and location but I won't be bringing them to this place again unless they offer more services with boarding. And I had to pay a holiday bonus charge for 5 of the days for each dog.

Though expensive, we have had nothing but good experiences keeping our dogs with them until most recently. One of our dogs, a very social and well behaved West Highland terrier, was banned from spending any time with other dogs on the 2nd day of a 7-day stay after bitting another dog. He spent 6 out of the 7 days of our trip either in the kennel or, for some reason, the hallway outside the kennel while our other dog was in the kennel--a very strange decision given that he's great with our other dog. Why not have them in the same space? Though my Westie has never shown signs of violence or aggressiveness before, I realize the need for them to be careful and protect the other dogs, but no one at American Pet Resort contacted us to tell us what had occurred. We learned after looking at the online cameras. There we saw our Westie confined to his kennel while all the other dogs, including our second dog, were playing outside. Why didn't someone from the kennel call us to let us know? That kind of proactive communication is something I expect. I was none too pleased to find out what happened only after having to make a call to find out why our Westie was left alone in his kennel during outside time. While away, I made a call suggesting the staff place my Westie and my second dog in a separate outdoor space with one another. The staff member I spoke to said they would do so, but they only did so once. Our Westie spent the next 5 days out of our 7 day trip in either in his kennel or the hallway (?) just outside of the kennel, and has been banned from outdoor play with other dogs during future visits. We will make sure that there will be no future visits.

Mainly for safety and cross contamination risks. Kennel cough can spread like wildfire and I don't want to risk my dog's health. And as much as my little dog may think he can run with the "big" dogs, he could easily get himself hurt in a group play setting. Dog's attitudes can change at the drop of a hat (especially in an environment that is not familiar) and god forbid my dog or any other goes Cujo out of fear or any other stress response. I know my dog is safe there and gets plenty of one on one love.

Valor Dobermans really aligned with my values and standards for the breed. The team has been incredible to work with- I ask sooo many questions. I picked up my little guy yesterday and I was so impressed with the information, care kit (even including a blanket with mom's & litter mates' scent on it). Ray really took to the time to address my concerns and questions, and continues to do so after taking home! I was also given some merchandise, which was a nice surprise. My puppy was clean and calm & was wonderful with our long car ride home- no messes! I am so excited for our new family member and appreciate the continued support from the breeders. My wishes to stay off of social media were also respected, so all around a wonderful experience- I highly recommend! We started with the puppy lessons where Lindsey introduced him to things he'd learn in more depth with her at the retreat. We worked on those things until he was a bit older and then he spent a month with Lindsey getting LOTS of training every day and taking fun field trips to parks, stores, and downtown. While I'm sure Rio felt like it was hard work at times, it was truly a retreat that he loved. We're pretty sure he was disappointed to have to come home haha. She patiently worked through his quirks to help him become a better dog. Lindsey is Rio's favorite person. I'm sure he loves her more than his own family! They have an amazing bond. If he ever runs away, we will probably find him at Proper Pup. In addition to the basics, he can now handle his energy, stay out of a room when asked, walk off-leash, PLAY, have fun swimming, etc.! Being a Portuguese Water Dog, we wanted to make sure he learned to like our pool. One lesson with Lindsey and he was having a great time! The kids now have a dog that loves to play with them in the pool. She even kept him for some bonus days to make sure he was ready. Lindsey spent a month focusing so much energy on forming Rio into an amazing dog. This is something we'd never be able to pull off with our schedules but we can now maintain it. Totally worth the investment in improving the next 15 years of our lives.
