I'm a long time customer. I have also been in the customer service industry for 40yrs. Great customer service starts when a person comes in, shops and then checks out. I'm very surprised that management allows the cashier's to wear headphones. By letting this be part of your customer service values, show that you you don't care about the end of your customer service. By letting cashiers wear headphones, nevermind big bulky headphones signals to your customers that music is more important than paying attention to customer service. As far as the workers on the floor they are always willing to help. read more

Liquor store about the size of a supermarket. They have everything alcoholic, non-alcohol even like kind tonic & sparkling water & what not. During covid you could place an order online, have it delivered, as well as pull up and get curbside.. they ended up keeping that since it was extremely successful. Everybody super sweet & I was so excited to see they had the new fireball with green apple. It was so good! I highly recommend ed. They have people that work there that know a lot about whine and someone else who knows a lot about hard liquors like what brand is better etc. So it's not like some kid just applying for a job and gets it. read more

One of my favorite liquor stores is just a second away from me, and I love it not only for its convenience but also because it's enormous and has just about everything you could think of. I truly appreciate that they have a fridge stocked with cold wine, Prosecco, and Champagne, which are usually my go-to drinks--it's so convenient to grab one and have it ready to enjoy. However, I've noticed that the customer service can be a bit hit or miss. Sometimes they warmly greet you and ask if you've found everything okay, while other times you may feel a bit ignored. How can a package store be 5 stars, this one can just because of the excellent customer service they provide, without condescension, and without a sales push either, just right in their wine department. The store is large and have a great selection, however the wine service is what sets them apart. Many years ago they recommended what is now one of my favorite white Pinot Grigio, and today as I entered looking for a specific wine I knew that A I would find it there and B the gentleman on the floor would help me, and this was exactly what happened. If I lived nearby it would be my go to. I've visited another store closer to my home that is touted and wins awards for their wine selection and it doesn't compare to this store at all, also they have a chain store beat on their customer service hands down. read more

Super nice and large store. They have a wide variety of basically everything alcohol related here that you would ever need or want. Stopped in here last week on the way home from dinner, just to browse. Too bad we missed a tasting by a half an hour. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. They used to carry cheeses near the wine section, but I think they did away with that. I heard any liquor store isn't allowed to sell food related items (that can potentially mask the smell of alcohol)... I'd say this is probably the best package store for miles. read more

Good selection of wine, that is why I keep returning. Older blond woman who is at the register is absolutely rude. I buy several bottles of wine at a time and she always grabs a bag to put them in. Mind you a small bag. When I ask for a box or retrieve one for myself she is always extremely annoyed. That is why they save all of the boxes at the front of the store. 5 stars for letting me use their bathroom after sitting in traffic on 95! I truly came here because they had just got a shipment of Kent Fall's Shower Beer & I was passing through from NYC on my way to RI but I've been here before & love the selection. They had at least 3 tastings going on that day. The brewer from Charter Oak was pouring samples so I tried some but passed on the wine & booze. Large selection of craft beer & a helpful staff. Not overwhelming but lots to look at. I'm sure it wouldn't disappoint anyone looking for craft beer hence the 5 starts! read more

This is a mixed review. After reading some reviews I decided to ask the staff at the central aisle, not the register, whether they offered case discounts. I got a through explanation about how the state controls prices and that depending on what I bought they might be able to give me a discount. The staff at the center area were a 10. The girl at the register was about a 2. I understand she's young but service is not her forte. Oh well, good store and good selection. Service depends on who you talk to. read more

I have shopped forever through many different managers and staff. Today was awful, I stopped by to pick up 2 boxes to pack some thigs for the Va. With people at the counter a girls yelled over you can't take more than one. I said the gentleman there told me I could take to and she said no. Depending on what you get the prices here can be pretty decent. However, cheap wine is cheap, expensive wine is still expensive. Where they stand out is in their inventory. They have a large selection of wines and it's laid out by country and region. They put a lot of effort in posting notes about wines and the staff picks are helpful if you're looking for opinions. We really enjoy their beer selections. We come home with a lot of different beers each time we go there. They have a lot of foreign selections that can be hard to find (Chimay, Duvel, Corsendonk, Dellerium). Stil, not Fat Tire though, darn it. They sell singles too which is great when you're sampling. They have a fairly large selection of non-alcoholic too. I never knew there were so many (i never touch the stuff myself....) Two other bonuses that seperates them from the other BIG alcohol market in town - the staff here is friendly and very helpful. Never in your face but always available. Lastly they have a no hassle bottle return. just make sure they are clean and they take everything. read more

This should pretty much sum it up. I LOVE this place. As stated on other reviews HUGE beer selection. As a total beer freak I have no limits to how far I'll go for beer. As in jumping on a dam plane to get some. Not kidding. Took 2 trips to Mexico just to drink local tequilas. I have asked at Coastal if they could get me a couple diff hard to find fresh beers. I know when the breweries brew it and release it. Highly hopped beers are best drank as fresh as you can get them and preferably on tap. I went back the next week to find Gandhi BOT from NEB as well as 668 Neighbor of the Beast that I requested. They also carry LOTS of beers as in quantities of a particular beer. Case in point Sierra Nevada Estate. Might be my favorite beer at this time. Then again Sierra's Tumbler was my fav every time it comes out. So much so I buy 2 extra cases to sit in my garage to use for my fish fries. Any old who. I was buying 3 to 6 22oz green waxed dipped bottles of Estate every week when I go visit my mom who lives close by. I think it's 10.88 a bottle. I know it's limited and only produced once a year. When it runs out it's gone. I see it missing from a couple other stores and asked if they could get me more. Couple calls to the distributors and it's very clear the supply is history. Just for shits and giggles I asked at Coastal if the last 2 bottles on the shelf were all they had. Gentleman comes out from the back with their last case. I said any breaks if I take it all. Cuts me a deal on the spot for 8.88 a bottle. I took the case from him and asked him to grab the last 2 bottles as well and followed me to the cashier. If I was gay I would have tongue kissed him. I also had 2 wines and a couple high end Saki's I needed as well. Really clueless when it comes to either. Just know my sushi chef Simone at WAFU in Southport only has good Saki and took pictures of the bottles I was draining there. Well they didn't have my favorite cranberry wine from Truro on the Cape that rocks with goat cheese since it doesn't come to CT. But they did have the other wine and well as both bottles of Saki I wanted. This store has everything. A MUST STOP. Also don't know of any other stores that even come close in that area. read more

Very nice store - a lot of selection, nicely laid out and organized. My review also is for their great wine and scotch tastings. They have a nice room in the back that seats around 30 people, with the rep from the company we're tasting from standing in the front explaining the history of that particular product. They are usually very personable and knowledgeable, but sometimes it's hard to concentrate when they're giving you almost half glass pours each time. They also provide cheese and crackers, which helps, especially since you're drinking on an empty stomach. The only thing I wish they would do is put little buckets where you can pour the extra wine you don't want around the room. The store is a bit far for me to go there on a normal basis, but if I'm ever in the area, I'm always stopping. read more

I know nothing about wine or spirits, so I cannot comment on that but to me it looked as impressive as the beer selection did. Pretty easy to get to as well, not far off i-95. They have EVERYTHING. And if you're THAT guy that wants..no..NEEDS that random obscure beer that no one has ever heard of, they'll get it for you. Their wine selection is enormous, their beer aisles go on for days...And to top it all off, the staff is extremely helpful! I really can't think of one thing to complain about...they don't have 21st Amendment beer but that's a CT thing, so there's nothing they can really do about it! Coastal is a very large store with a huge selection that you would never see anywhere else matched with pretty fair pricing. I love the wide aisles and easy to read signs as it is so easy to navigate through the store. I was incredibly happy to finally find Triple 8 Blueberry Vodka (which I can never find anywhere but Nantucket). We went here yesterday and were greeted by many displays offering free tastings. But, the best thing about Coastal has to be their friendly and considerate employees. They are incredibly helpful and go above and beyond to point you in the right direction or five you any help you might seek. read more

I have to agree with the reviews that said that customer service is poor. They now say that it is their new "system" is the reason that they no longer give case discounts. That, and their very high prices, are the reason that I now go elsewhere for my "spirits". Their "upgrades" have backfired as far as I am concerned. Coastal has an ad in the Shoreline Times that says: "Bogle 750ML (All Types) $9.99". I called the store to order a case of Bogle Phantom. I was transferred twice and the third person said "you're not getting it" and "that's not included". When I pointed out that the ad said all types he said "I don't have time for this" and hung up. I can't even believe I'm reviewing a liquor store, but I genuinely love this place. It's massive, they have an insane selection of everything (including hard to find beers), and a wicked helpful staff. If you're looking for something that they don't carry (rare), they'll order it for you no questions asked. They constantly have tastings in this store which I definitely appreciate, and the staff always had great suggestions on wine and beers. I don't see much of a difference in prices vs other liquor stores in the area, but this is my go-to store so I guess I just don't really notice it. This used to basically be in my backyard so I spent an embarrassing amount of time here..I've since moved, but still drive the 10-15 minutes to this liquor store even though I have ten liquor stores in a three mile radius of my new place haha. read more

Biggest selection I've seen on the shoreline. Plenty of beer options, even West Coast breweries. Wine varieties are plentiful. Cashiers are friendly and so are the floor helpers with their vast product knowledge. I drive past more than a couple of liquor stores to go here. Prices are a little high though. For example, a six pack of Sea Hag is $2 more here than anywhere else. read more

They have a great selection of wine which is the reason I have made it a point to stop here when I am in Branford. Spent over 20 minutes in there today and not a single person asked if I needed help. I decided to do a case because I found so many bottles I normally don't get at a brick and mortar. Went to check out and asked if there is a case discount, I assumed there was. She said she didn't know but it would come off automatically if there was. It did not and she asked another women who said if it didn't come off they didn't do one. I haven't ever bought 12 bottles and not received a case discount... that is the reason I bought 12. The girl who checked me out was friendly if inexperienced but the other women was rude. If you only care about selection you'll be fine. When I spend $200 on wine I expect at least a little customer service. If your looking for any sort of repertoire at the place you buy your wine don't go here. Sadly I will not be going back. read more
