    The Great escape

Wings were very tasty! I got the great escape as my drink & could've drank several more it was perfect! The server was super friendly with our big group & answered any questions we had about the menu

    Good craft beer selection

Great service, nice environment. Little bit pricey but the taste and size of each plate was good. I am a wing snob and thought the smoked wings with the Alabama white sauce was fantastic! Enjoyed a soft pretzel appetizer as well. Really good selection of craft beer- a lot of them local, and cocktails. Their service was excellent. Sat at bar and bartender came every moment to ask if there were anything else to bring. Would return!

Wedge Salad My daughter raved about this - she couldn't finish it and it was all she ordered.

It has become a tradition for us to visit Coastal when we visit the beach. We tried them their first year open (2019) and loved our experience- specifically the turkey leg (no longer available), the Western BBQ bacon burger, and the sweet tea. Their tots and fried pickles were also delicious. The pulled pork nachos appetizer was also a winner at the time. The last two times we've visited, the food was not as good (cold pulled pork and cheese on nachos, etc.) and the service was poor. It takes 45 minutes to an hour to get food, so be prepared and don't go hungry. Surf City location: This time (2024), we were seated immediately in a bustling and busy atmosphere. Vinny took excellent care of our table, but definitely seemed overworked/stressed. It seemed like they were short staffed. Fortunately, our food this time was very good (marked improvement from our last two visits). Everyone enjoyed their food. A few notes to be aware of: Extra charges for sauces whereas they used to come with/be free if asked for The amount of meat seemed small for the "meat plates" Ribs seemed less meaty than they should be for the price Both my friend and I ordered our burgers cooked medium and they came to us over medium well. The flavor was still good, but for the price, I expect accuracy. If I were to return without the nostalgia of the group visiting for memories, I would stick to appetizers and drinks rather than having a meal. I just don't know if the food you get plus the service you receive is worth the money they're asking. Note that there is a new location of this restaurant in Sneads Ferry. We tried to go there first a different day this week and the young man at the host stand warned us that he could seat us, but no food was coming out of the kitchen. We looked around and realized almost no one in the restaurant had food. The restaurant was full of people. We left and went to a different restaurant that night. We really want to support this business- we have good memories and enjoy our time together when we come. We like the menu! I hope they figure out how to staff and serve well consistently. Please bring back the turkey leg and consider being more full service for the prices you're asking.

Came here for dinner on Saturday evening around 7pm. There was about a 45 minute wait for a table of 3. Most of the workers were friendly but our waitress didn't seem the friendliest. My friends and I split the pickle chips. They were delicious and there were so many of them! Loved the sauce that came with it! So crispy! Yum! I ordered the brisket sandwich with tots. It was also delicious! There was a lot of meat and the sauce was good. Left very full! We had a nice meal! The atmosphere is nice and relaxed inside. Clean! Prices were very fair ~$20 for 1/3 of pickles and my sandwich. Good meal!

Smoked dry rub wings are definitely worth making a trip to Costal Wing & Spirits. I'm not even a big wine fan, but these wings were good! Plenty of meat on the wings with a dry rub that had a nice mix of savory with a hint of sweetness. I also ordered the tuna tacos which were packed full of tuna. I didn't care for the bacon bits on the tuna, the dressing on the tuna brightened the dish and added nice flavor. My son who loves spicy food ordered the Nashville Hot chicken sandwich a gave it a thumbs up. Tater tots tasty too. Food came quickly.

Dinner with my niece and nephew, he chose Coastal and we had a great time. It's a bit casual and not terribly expensive spot which is nice since I picked up the check! I had the boneless wings. A nice big pile that were fresh and hot, tossed in their Buffalo sauce. They weren't very spicy and that's something they need to work on. But the request for all celery was nice and the blue cheese had actual chunks of blue cheese in it. The restaurant was a little drafty with the air conditioning blowing pretty hard on the table. Other than that, it was a great spot and we had fun. [Review 18882 overall - 3367 in North Carolina - 2405 of 2022.]

I visited this place on a Saturday night, and even though they seemed a bit busy, we were able to get a table with very little wait. The place has a rustic/beachy/sports bar feel. It was pretty loud inside, between all the people, music and TV's, but we tend to go towards these type of places since we also have loud kids with us. The waitress came to take our drink order and told us right away of the items that they were out of. I ordered the blood orange cider to drink and I must say it was the best cider I've ever had! While there we were informed they had run out of bitters for the old fashioned that someone in our party was having, so one of the employees ran out to the store to get more. As an appetizer we shared the fried pickles. The portion was large enough for four people, and it tasted pretty good! As an entree I had the Nashville Hot Chicken Mac and Cheese bowl with ranch. It was extra cheesy and the chicken came in big sized nuggets, that were actually hot! (Spicy) My kid had the "seasonal fruit cup" which definitely looks like it's just their bar condiments, but he took the tater tots from someone else at our table and was happy with that.

I tried the Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich. The flavor was good but the sandwich is a mess. Get plenty of napkins.

Outdoor seating (no…read moreindoors) and weathered wood lends authenticity to the Surf City vibe, but then one also needs to contend with the birds and heat (minus the ocean breeze). We drove here with friends from Jacksonville (NC) and experienced the food and service and, afterwards said we'd definitely return here. Why? Tacos. We ordered four - Tuna, Shrimp, Chicken, and Veggie- all on a soft corn tortilla. Each one packed a mouthful of flavor combinations that were distinct and memorable. My blackened and seared tuna took a different turn with the bacon, yet it melded well with the cabbage and the spicy mayo. My favorite - the blackened and grilled Shrimp taco - included Asian slaw and sweet chili sauce that complimented the char. Our friends ordered the seafood nachos which frankly looked liked the shrimp and other seafood were overwhelming the chips! If I had been hungrier, I would have ordered this monster! Soft drinks (Coke products), adult beverages, and "Sweet Treats" are also available. The bathrooms are inside the surf shop. Paid parking is right next to the store. (If a song could be adapted for this review, it would start, "Shaka, Shaka, Shaka, Shaka Tacos)

No issue with the wait and the servers and staff were working hard and kind. That said, the prices were high for what you got and not having cups for water increased the dissatisfaction. We did enjoy the chips and the red salsa was good however our meals outside that were fairly flavorless. Pretty sure the only thing that was raved about was the Sangria Slush. I'm a fan of doing something and doing it well but not so sure outside the slush or the shrimp taco what the signature dish is here but it wasn't the specials, the seafood nachos, the beef, ahi tuna tacos.

This restaurant by far has been…read morethe most consistent in the quality of the food, which is the best of all the restaurants in the topsail area. It is not fine dining and has the sports bar vibe. It is a relatively small place and I recommend going on non peak hours in season. If you are into oysters, they have a great selection of both local and regional on the half shell. If you prefer cooked, chargrilled or steamed is a good choice. While the menu has a great selection of seafood, the chalkboard specials features extremely fresh local catches which change daily. While there are several restaurants in and around the topsail area this is the only one where I have never been disappointed. If you go at peak hours during the vacation season expect to wait but it is worth it. You can't miss with any of the steamed shellfish offerings and if you prefer fried there batter is light and not overpowering. As a sports bar, they have a large selection of tap and bottled beers and a good mixology of liquor options which is only outdone in my opinion by Rick's in Sneads Ferry

I could've asked the price upfront (and usually do) but what the heck... we're on vacation. The server suggested we get a "double" and share it. OK. Sounds good. It came out quick. There was a TON of food for two of us. Shrimp, sausage, potatoes, corn. It didn't have a lot of seasoning also on it, but - no problem - there was a rack with every hot sauce you'd ever need, plus salt, pepper and old bay. We both ate our fill and even left a few potatoes. The bill comes and it's less than $40. It might be the cheapest great meal I've had in a long time. Or maybe it's the "greatest cheap meal" I've had in a long time... I don't know. Bar ambiance, but pleasant enough for families. Mostly high tables. It all seemed very nice.
