I have been a member at Coast Hills since 2004. It seems like it keeps going downhill as time goes on. The online banking is outdated and more an inconvenience than anything. I recently called to make a payment on my Coast Hills credit card and they charged me $15 to do it over the phone. I can understand $3 but $15 is crazy. The only reason I gave two stars is because my of most recent experience. A girl named Mikey helped me and was seriously so helpful and cheery it was like a breath of fresh air after my last few experiences. Worst bank ever. If I could pick zero stars, I would. My husband and I went in together when we opened our accounts. They gave him the designation of primary account holder. Whenever I need to speak with them on the phone, I am grilled with questions before I can even get information because I am not the primary account holder. I recently set up a direct deposit into my bank account. They put the money into my husband's bank account and blamed the sender. I have changed my direct deposit into my account at Union Bank where I have never had a problem. The people in our local bank are very nice and helpful; but the main branch in Lompoc is where the policies are made. If you're tempted to move your accounts there, look around before you go to the trouble. read more

I went to cash my pay check (teller says she need a manger to approve it) manager comes over to verify. Instead of calling the employer name an phone number on the check they call their "friends" and tell them how much my check is and all my information to some random person. One day I'm out and about and this random person ask me about my pay check. come to find out his buddy is the manager that verified my pay check. I have been with Coast Hills for 40 years. I have my checking, mortgage, car loans....basically everything because I want to give my business to local enterprises when at all possible. This week for some unknown and never experienced reason, my EDD unemployment money which always comes in by Tuesday or Wednesday did not arrive. The credit union charged me $32 x 2 because my automatic bills for water/trash and another utility came in causing my account to have two items overdue. I called and explained to them what happened and with this pandemic we are all struggling so $64 dollars means a lot to me. I was told that back in 2017 they reversed one overdue amount so they expect me to be aware of what happens when there isn't enough money in an account to pay a bill. Finally after asking to speak to a manager the person I was dialoguing with put me on hold and returned to state they would reverse one $32 charge. With what's going on in today's world, this is pretty heartless to me. Even the big banks...Wells Fargo, BofA, Capitol one seem to work with individuals better than this. They looked into my problem and resolved in my favor this time. I wish I had not had to raise a stink over $64 in charges that were not my fault. I guess my saying that this wasn't very good in terms of customer service and made me want to shut down the account finally got to them. I am still not a big fan because they charge $7 per month if you don't use the debit card enough times. It's stressful and has made our account dip below 0 at least once. In essence, they charge $84 per year on accounts which never make it and then paying only a very small dividend if they do. How is this better than sewing your money into a mattress? read more

CoastHills Credit Union is the type of organization I would love to give a four or five star rating, but I can't. I have been with the credit union for many years, and during those years I have been consistently disappointed. It started when I brought my business checking accounts to CoastHills. I was enticed with an offer of free, no minimum balance checking. Eventually, they changed their polices and online banking system for business accounts. What initially worked well for my business didn't work as well and suddenly required a high minimum balance or monthly fees. The same has happened with my personal checking. Originally, CoastHills offered free checking. Now you have to maintain a minimum balance of $1,000 to avoid service fees. Otherwise, you have to pay fees that include useless cell phone protection which won't cover the replacement cost of most smart phones. Over the years CoastHills has become more and more bank-like, but offers less customer service, branches, and convenience than regular banks. While the staff is friendly, the lines in the branches are typically very long. Likewise, hold times for telephone customer service can be unbelievably lengthy, especially if you need to talk to someone about your credit card. When you combine these problems with the low interest rates paid, the constant problems with credit card and debit card fraud, checks cashed against incorrect accounts, etc., it is hard to recommend this credit union. About the only thing CoastHills has going for it is extremely competitive rates on auto loans. While I am not so unhappy with CoastHills that I plan to completely leave, I have closed all but one personal checking and savings account, and moved the bulk of my money elsewhere. If CoastHills returned to its roots and started offering truly free checking accounts again, they might earn back more of my business. In the meantime, if I have to maintain a high balance or pay service charges, I will do the majority of my banking elsewhere, where the convenience of nationwide branches offsets the cost. read more

What customer service? I used an ATM at a shared branch to deposit a large amount of cash. The ATM encountered a problem and was unable to return the money I put in. This should not have been a big deal. I immediately called Coast Hills to let them know about the situation. The first girl that I got on the phone kept telling me that I needed to call back with the exact amount of all the transactions that I made ( I made 3 because the ATM could only take 30 bills at a time... The first two were successful ). I told her the amount of the lost money repeatedly but she still insisted I call back with the total amount. It seemed like she just didn't want to deal with it. I totaled up the money and called back. The second person was not even concerned about the other transactions... Just the amount of the lost money.. Go figure! His name was Ricky and he was very nice, however even though he checked with a supervisor on how to handle the situation, I was still given the wrong information. I was told to file a foreign ATM dispute and the longest it would take to be resolved would be a week. A week is a long time to wait for over $500 but I was OK with that. Then I called back today to find out the status(it will be one week tomorrow) just to find out that they have not even submitted my dispute! Meaning the other bank has not even been notified by anyone other than me that they even have my money!! Not only that but the girl who answered the phone today was the original girl I spoke with and she started arguing with me! I asked for her supervisor who was anything but apologetic and just repeatedly told me it was a "process" and there is nothing she can do about it. I wonder how she would feel if I was holding her money and refusing to do anything about it? Like another reviewer said, I would have been better off putting my money in my mattress. This is based on Coast hills Visa credit card. I do not have a checking/auto/home loan through them but their credit card has to be the best overall credit card I have. I have several others but they have the best APR at 7.99%. They're also the only credit card that I've seen that has no APR fees for international travel since they have alot of military customers. I have very good credit so if you have anything over 700 credit score you should definitely apply for credit card through them. In order to do so you need at least a checking or savings with Coast Hills. All I did was open a savings account with $5 and that qualifies. I Bank with Union Bank for checking. read more

Not impressed. From the very start of my loan, dealing with Coast Hills has been an ordeal. Their website is a joke. They have the nerve to tell me that unless I use their inconsistent website, they will send paper statements and of course, charge another fee! Happily, loan is almost paid off. Have always had a nice experience when going into the Lompoc branch, and phone support has been wonderful. Very seldom wait longer than 5 minutes to get to the tellers. I love banking at Coast Hills Federal Credit Union and hope to continue banking with them for years to come. read more

I had no problems with this bank but I only went inside 1 or 2 times. I even have my car loan through them. I had hoped to stay on even after I move out of Lompoc but with this ridiculous 5.95 monthly fee for them to essentially hold my money.. NO WAY! Only way to avoid is is to keep a 1000.00 average daily amount in the bank, when you have kids and a family to provide for that is not easy so as much as I like Coast Hills.. This is second to the worse banking institutions you can imagine. Customer service here is hit a miss. They put holds on your normal pay checks holding funds in your account then paying checks you sent out charging a "Courtesy Fee" when you have the money in your account all along. Don't be fouled by the "Bank among friends" Champaign. It is a bunch of bull. I don't know anyone that treats their enemies the way this place treats friends. Do your self a favor and stay clear of this place. Turns up they leave it up to the discretion of the teller to do what they want with your money. I was really enjoying my checking account with Coast Hills. Until I took out $100 and drove off without it, not thinking it would be a major issue. Seemed like a once in awhile problem for some people, considering they shoot your card back out before cash. I went in the next day to resolve the issue, Oscar or Hector I cannot remember explained the banks get balanced weekly to see any off balancing I should see it back into my account some time before 14 days. 3 weeks later no refund. I go in to see what the hell was going on, teller had no idea what i was talking about. No record until maybe 15 minutes later she found it and told me to wait a couple days. She took my number to call me back on update. NO CALL. Go back IN, told me to wait a couple days again. Get a letter in the mail stating no off balancing with the money. WHAT?! So my money just disappered?! Does anybody else find this weird that your money guys didn't see my $100 that was sucked back in! I go in AGAIN, supervisor was not available, took my number.. guess what NO CALL. I go in again to demand a supervisor explaining please check camera footage this has been over a month issue. Teller walked back, came out with no supervisor and advised me Vicky will look into getting the camera footage, took my number, told me to give it not tomorrow but the next day. Ongoing trend guess what, NO CALL. I specifically call and ask for Vicky and she had no idea why her teller would tell me she would look into the camera footage when she has no access, then conitnued to say I will call you back in just a minute. After 2 hours I realized I was jipped out of $100 and nobody cared. For a young working single mom $100 is vital to me. I was VERY VERY disappointed. I got my $100 + $200 by signing up w/ Chase for direct deposit. Today I went in to cancel my checking account w/ CH and surprise surprise she cancelled it and told me have a great day, Never asked me why I was not satisfied because by the look of her face she knew her company and had jipped me $100. If you want your money stolen from you go to Coast Hills Credit Union, they love to charge fees!!! The only reason I have an account with them is because they forced me to be a member to be part of a family account. I live no where near a branch so I have no use for the account. First off the branch in Paso Robles is a joke, they screwed up so many times and misinformed or didn't tell us on numerous occasions. They lost important legal paper work, didn't tell us we would incur fees for not having online banking and inactivity. I literally only have $100 in my account because that's what's needed to be a member. After they first set up my account they started charging me statement fees and under $100 balance fees because the branch rep didn't tell me I needed an online account setup to waive the fees. So we had to go all the way to Paso Robles to do that, my Mom lives 45 minutes away and I live close to Disneyland (250 miles away) so a royal pain to get there!!! I don't use the account so I don't check my eStatements so now they're charging me dormancy/inactivity fees, never heard of that??? So now I'm down to $10 and now they're telling me I'm going to get fees for being under $100, what a joke!!! They won't refund me the fees since I never logged in since they send me eStatements only every 3 months (looking back at my emails from them) and a ton of junk emails, so I ignored most emails from them because they were trying to sell me some type of service and I didn't use the account! I don't even remember getting info for logging in online??? I've never heard of such a thing and they never informed me of inactivity/dormancy fees when I opened the account! So if you like getting fees join this credit union, they love to take your money!!! Now my poor Mom has to drive all the way to Paso Robles to fix this again since they can't do it over the phone!
