A serpentine belt on my alternator snapped while I was on the highway. I called AAA and they sent these guys. They towed my car and said they had to take an alternate route to the location I wanted it towed (probably to charge more on the milage of the tow). I was told by AAA that my plan said any extra miles beyond my limit would be $11 per mile, so I specifically chose a location within my range to be dropped off (with the alternate route included). Either way I stayed within my limit and one of the drivers, Tony, said because they took an alternate route they needed to add a few miles to the charge because of some "standard procedure from taking an alternate route". I stayed within my mile range and when I called Tony out on it he tried to make me believe I didn't know what I was talking about and said I could call his boss and sort it out. He handed me his phone and I berated his boss for trying to add additional charges that did not exist. He gave a weak explanation about why he added miles to the meter. He said because they took an alternate route they needed to add miles to account for that. I responded that the meter should've been recording those miles already and that they should go with what was on there. And instead of trying to argue with me he said to hand the phone back to Tony. I handed it back and at the last minute Tony and his boss went in private to talk, where I assumed the boss said to just be fair. Tony got off the call and condescendingly said "I was trying to save you a few bucks, but you got what you wanted I guess". Then after all that he said the charge was $12 per extra mile. In frustration I payed it because I didn't want my car to remain a hostage on their flatbed truck. Overall it was a bad experience, Tony in particular tried to butter me up with conversation during the ride, probably so I wouldn't notice the scam he was trying to pull on me. I believe later the boss berated Tony for lying about the mileage and trying to scam me, and they refunded me the money because "the mileage was incorrect". Although I'm glad I got out of this situation without having to pay, it was extremely stressful in the moment. I also did not like that I had to be confrontational like that in order for me to get anything back. I hope to never have my car breakdown in this area again, because these vultures will try to bleed you out of every penny you have. And they use the stress of your car breaking down in hopes that you don't notice. This all happened July 16-17, 2025, and I'm writing this a few hours after it happened. read more

David was amazing ! My daughter got a flat on her Honda Civic as soon as we got off the freeway. Honda quoted us almost $700 to replace 2 tires. When David saw the estimate he asked if he could call a few tire shops in town to see if they could help us. After 2 calls he found a shop that had her tires in stock and they quoted us $250 out the door. They actually ended up charging us $100. My son's car was at Toyota and they were going to charge us $1450 for 4 tires. I quickly requested that they not do the tires. Calderon Tires at 333 S. He was so patient with her and explained things for her so she could understand them. He gave her a jump start and tested the battery and alternator. Turns out she left her lights on and it killed the battery. He was very respectful and knew that she must have had a long day if she was at the cancer center. They did a great job helping me when I needed it the most. In the middle of working on a boat trailer wheel/hub, I hurt my lower back and could not physically finish the job. The trailer was parked on the street in front of my house, and the city put signs up they were going to resurface the street and all vehicles would be towed at owner's expense the NEXT day. I called SM Towing, explained the situation and dispatcher was open to taking on the job. The tow truck driver showed up, put the wheel on the trailer hub, and kindly towed it on to my property 10 feet away. No fuss, no muss. Quick, efficient. Very reasonable price. My car broke down this Labor Day weekend and we were stranded on the side of the road somewhere in Santa Maria. It was 100 degrees and my wife was exhausted and overheated from the humidity. Hook up and hold hostage. Rich, the owner of this company is the reason tow truck companies have a hostage reputation. I called AAA to tow my car from Santa Maria to Arroyo Grande. I have AAA premier. My husband was out of town planning a family members funeral and I was at work. We used our daughter as a "stand in" which is allowed by AAA. The driver got to our residence and the owner Rich would not take our AAA membership card. He forced my daughter to pay him $140 in order not to impound the car. I spoke with him on the phone. He was a real jerk. He has no customer service skills whatsoever. He said he would call me back. Crickets. I called him and asked him about some AAA policies. He wasn't familiar with them but he's towing for AAA. Thank goodness AAA is returning my money! read more

Their drivers drive around town recklessly. One tow truck driver raced down Broadway at 60+, while tailgating other cars. Called their office and when I informed them what I saw they flippantly replied that "the truck was going to a baby locked in a car", TOTAL BS story.... Cuz just 20 minutes later he comes same truck with a car on the tow truck bed. Total BS story made up to cover for their drivers. For three year's i have been paying for AAA roadside service which i never used. On 02/03/23 i was left on the side of the road because the contractor tow truck from Santa Maria towing did not want to do it. Driver saying that his boss complained that AAA ONLY pays $50 per car. The dispatch said; ill charge you $12 per mile to pull you out. Wow i could not believe what i heard! After hours left in the boonies between santa maria santa barbara cold, hungry and miserable i found a tow company R16 transport that rescued me. To this date and after many complaints i never herd from AAA roadside. Ultimately it is your decision to pay for a service that when in need will never provide. The only reason I am giving them a star is because there was only one worker that was very kind to my family and I and guided us to the office. Upon walking into the office we were approached by the Manager who was Ill-mannered. He definitely didn't look too pleased to be attending us. We went the next day to pay and and pick up the vehicle. DO NOT BOOK WITH THEM!! If you have triple A they will add additional charges. I was quoted $10 a mile, which is insanely high, from Triple A and when I called the told me there would be additional mileage and it was actually $12 a mile. This is highway robbery. I was stuck on the side of the road on the FREEWAY!! I thought something was wrong with my drive train but apparently I was out of gas .. yes... out of gas! (I know lame) Santa Maria towing was there in under 15 mins. Adolfo cane and was SOOO helpful! I felt very safe. Once he put the gas in he told me to start my car.
