Incredibly thankful that we got to come here a second year. This year we only got two trees, but the one was twice as high! It was beautiful and smells beautiful and I'm so thankful they are open during the week for folks like us who don't always have time on the weekends. The shop had so many amazing ornaments which we live to get so we can save the tree tags! They bail and shakeum really well! We came here to get a Christmas tree. This was our first experience going to a Christmas Tree farm to get our own tree, and it was really fun. Everyone was wearing masks, and socially distanced. Our dog was allowed, and we got some cute pictures of her. We picked a tree and borrowed a knee pad (do yourself a favor and borrow two, get all comfy on the ground!) and a saw. It was a little bit of work to saw down a tree (who knew? lumber jacks make it look so easy!) but my husband got it done, and got a little muddy in the process. Another thing I liked is that after you pay for your tree and wrap it up, they can hold it there while you go get your car and then help you load it! A little tip is certainly nice. There's even a Santa for photos during certain hours and a little playground for kids. Things we learned, that may be helpful for other visitors or for us next year: other families wore cute matching outfits and took pictures (good idea!). You might want to consider something to put on the ground where you'll be kneeling, it's the Pacific Northwest, all that rain makes the ground muddy! And some people brought some kind of electric trimmers or cutters. Good idea, but the sawing only took a few minutes. read more

This place is nicely organized and has pretty much everything you need at a one stop shop. The Santa was so sweet and he was there to take pics with your own camera. They provide hot chocolate and apple cider. They have wagons and saws and will wrap up your Christmas trees for you. One star removed because they do offer free wagon rides and when I asked if they were still doing them, the lady I asked said "do you see them out there?" And kind of left me hanging so she could refill the hot chocolate. I think the answer who have been "yes we offer wagon rides from 10-5" or simply "I'm not sure, let me ask someone who knows" but they kind of just stared at me like I asked a bizarre question. With that said, some of the staff is super friendly and some seem like they dislike their jobs which is a big bummer if you encounter some of the grumpier folks because this is a place families go to to make special memories. Very handy to have carts available, we had to wait for one but only about three minutes. The staff were all wearing masks and helped us load up the tree into the back of my car. They were also helping other customers tie the trees to the top. I've been to other tree farms in the past that say they help with loading, but don't. All of their staff were very friendly and helpful! Also not too muddy despite the weather. We were able to bring our toddler and baby and were in and out in less than 30 minutes. I've been going to U-cut tree farms for 30 years and this was the worst experience I've ever had. It would have been frustrating if they turned us away, but that would have been better than what we experienced. They just kept letting people come in and were significantly over capacity. Once you turn in, you're trapped. We were there for 3.5 hours and about 3 hours of it was waiting in line. We had to wait for parking. We had to wait to drop of tree. We had to wait to pay for the tree. The paying machine broke. Then we had to wait to get to the loading zone in our car. Then we had to wait to pick up the tree. They eventually shut everything down and started shouting out numbers for peoples trees because there were so many trees they couldn't find peoples trees as they arrived to pick up the tree. They said they'd help tie up the tree, that was a lie. I had to figure that out. The people working there were stressed and exhausted, I felt bad for them. It was pure chaos. This is where my family went this past Christmas season to get our tree. It was our first time at a U-cut farm and I'm so happy this is where we decided to go. On a map, it looks like it's in the middle of nowhere but there were still so many other people there also! It was nice that they had all the gear (wagon, saw, knee pads) needed since we didn't bring anything since it was our first time. If you first head inside, you can see examples of each tree so you know which one you wanna get. Then you can locate on the map what section of the farm your tree of choice is. Head over, cut it down, and head back! They then have someone recut the bottom to make sure it's straight, wiggle out any loose needles, and then wrap it up for easy transportation. They even had a guy help us tie it to the roof of our car! We don't have a rack on our roof so we were a bit wary but this guy tied it down so well, it didn't move at all during the drive back home, even without a rack! Super impressed! Inside is where you pay and where you can also visit the little shop. While in there, you can also get free hot cocoa and apple cider! What a cool Xmas tree farm! We were here for family holiday pictures, they let photographers come do their thing which I thought was cool. So honestly I only experienced walking around the tree farm and didn't make any purchases. Easy to find, just a little off Hwy 18 and into rural Auburn, it's a pretty drive and kinda fun. The entrance can come up fast so pay attention to your gps. Friendly attendants, big parking lot and nice large area to walk around in. What a great place to cut your down Christmas tree. When you arrive you are given a map which lays out where everything is, including where to find each type of tree. Coates also provides handsaws, knee padding and wagons free of charge to make chopping down your tree as easy as possible. We were able to find an 8 foot Douglas Fir which was only $29. Since moving to Washington and finding out that we could cut our own Christmas tree, I decided to Yelp a few establishments. There were a few locations I wanted to visit but Coates won us over because of their pet-friendly policy. So long as dogs are on-leash, they are welcomed. Coates was fairly easy to find. They have a great selection of trees with great prices. It isn't as cheap as those that are sold outside of the farms but I think you are paying for the experience. Price for trees differ depending on the type of tree you get. We purchased a Douglas Fir for around 29$ + tax. What's great is that they do not charge additional fees for larger sizes of the same tree type. They also provide handsaws, knee padding and wagons free of charge. Wagons were limited and we were told that they could be found next to the handsaws. Make sure to start a line near the man with the chainsaw if no wagon is available. This is where all customers with wagons go to after they chop down their tree. They also have a station for shaking trees and for packaging. Workers in that area will give you a ticket which determines what type of tree you got. You then will need to give the cashier (in the barn area) this ticket and pay for the tree. You will not miss this building because there will be a line or large groups of people drinking hot cocoa or hot apple cider which by the way is FREE. Yes, you read that right. Free hot drinks! As mentioned, they are pet friendly. We brought our pug with us but we ended up leaving him in the car because it was just way too muddy for him. Please keep that in mind. It was definitely a great first experience and we will definitely come back next year. read more

This place is the best Christmas tree farm we have ever been to! The trees were exceptional and very aesthetically pleasing (even, full, and uniform). It is a U-Cut, but for those like us, who lack the patience and the muscle for that, there is a worker who walks around with a chainsaw! :) The workers were extremely helpful and very quick to get our tree shaken and wrapped-- and for free! Best full service Christmas tree farm around. We showed up at 9:00 a.m. the day after thanksgiving. We were surprised by how many employees they had to help with all aspects of getting a tree. Everything is provided for you except the rope. We brought a saw but didn't need to, they had them waiting for us. They have a nice set up for small children to run around take pictures. They have a Santa shop. Its a perfect family U-Cut. Perhaps the best part is they recut the three for you to make sure it is straight and then throw it through a machine and net it for easy transportation. We got our christmas tree here last year and overall it was good. The folks that worked there were friendly and the pricing was decent. The only downside was the saws that were provided for us to cut our own tree with, it was extremely dull and made cutting down the tree a very laborious task. A very friendly family business. We actually were headed out to another business to cut down a tree when we stumbled upon this gem after making a wrong turn. The trees on this farm are very uniform - clearly trimmed and kept up very well. My sons commented that it looked like they had been laid out after coming off an assembly line. The farm is new - only their 2nd season - so many of the trees are young - didn't see one over 10'. But at $27.50 for a Douglas and $39.50 for a Noble at any size, a n 8' Noble at $5/foot is a steal. They offer the typical U-cut Christmas tree farm amenities - free hot drinks, free use of a saw, free baling, they even helped load the tree onto my car and tied it down for me. The carts to tow in the tree once we found it were a nice touch. Definitely worth the drive out there. read more

Awesome place to get a Christmas tree! We were able to bring our pups along with us which was a plus! Parking. Was small but they had a good flow of things where people were constantly leaving. They provided everything to cut and carry the trees. There were so many trees to choose from. Staff were friendly and were really there to help us with trimming our tree to the exact size we wanted. So here I am in early August leaving a review for a Christmas tree farm because I fell down a rabbit hole here on yelp and saw the reviews for other farms. Wow! I'm so shocked at how many tree lots have such awful reviews! We have never, ever had a bad experience at Coates farm. Not one! We've been buying our trees here for years and the employees have always been wonderful and professional. One year they accidentally gave our tree to a different family after wrapping it up. They were very apologetic and were quick to remedy the situation. We still came home with a gorgeous tree and didn't have to wait long to have it shaken and wrapped. Horrible experience!!! Carts were way too small. Couldn't get anyone to willingly help us get our large tree loaded. Finally got it up to process and they tried to give our tree away to someone else because their processing system sucks! Got tree home and realized it was covered in hydraulic fluid(probably from tree wrapping machine). Charged $50 for a 4ft tree that was $25 last year. Will definitely not be back! Do yourself a favor and find a tree out in the wilderness. The bears might be more helpful. read more

Wow. Am so mad I didn't find this place sooner! We have been going elsewhere for the past 3 years. Had no idea what we were missing. They are quite busy but have so many people helping and so many perfect trees. A lot of variety and half the price of our other place. We have used this farm for several years without issue. Sunday before last it was a madhou. (You cannot blame the farm for being popular.)That said, we took along a measuring tape and cut down a tree that was over nine feet tall. (108 inches) They took off six inches. When we got home, we had a tree that about 78 inches. Someone gave us the wrong tree!! With tax, we paid about eighty dollars$$$$. What he have sitting in our living room is a joke. My sons were crushed. My oldest said we should go to Lowes next year. Worse yet, when I went back to the website, they were closed. So, we are stuck with this ugly short fat tree and I have nearly two dozen people coming for Christmas. It was not worth the drive or the money this year! read more

This farm will be our new go-to place for our Christmas trees. A great selection of nice looking trees, and reasonable prices, will bring us back. Niceties include that they supply knee pads to keep you (mostly) out of the mud and carts to haul your find back to the car. Their band of merry elves quickly trim the trunk, shake the needles off (on a very entertaining machine), bundle the tree up in twine and load it on the car. We discovered that the bundled tree was also easier to haul into the house and place in the stand than an unfurled tree. We'll be back next year!! read more

We've been to most of the local tree farms. Coates is really the tops. The trees are beautifully trimmed. Despite record rains the drainage is good enough the place isn't a mudhole while you're traipsing around. The pricing is clear - one price regardless of the size depending on the tree variety. They have plenty of saws, carts, UMBRELLAS AND KNEEPADS! to loan out. After you've picked that perfect tree they'll trim up the branches on the bottom, shake it, and bale it.....for FREE. Super nice people, complimentary hot chocolate and cider, saw people walking leashed dogs, this is easily the bestest, most awesomest tree farm in the area. read more

Great spot! Lots of gorgeous trees, and a great variety of Nobles, Frasers, Douglas and Grands. Some nice pines too! Santa handing out candy canes to the little ones, and a giant, Rudolph pulled "sleigh" that they can "fly" in. All of the trees are truly incredible! Tough to choose because there are so many great ones. Only negative, and barely one at that, is the incoming and exiting traffic. You can find yourself unexpectedly crossing through the entrance lanes (thus traffic pulling in) while hunting for your tree, so keep your little ones close. Also, the exit cuts right through the check out line (again of concern for small children who are gleefully running around). Hoping that they might consider redesigning that in the future. Just keep close tabs on your kids and all will be well. Truly a great farm, with phenomenal prices (32.50-49.50 this year). Not overly commercialized and crowded like other farms out towards Orting. This will definitely be a family tradition! read more
