Walked in, just to see if they where open. No wait time on a Friday after work. Immediately got seated into a chair and started talking about men's haircuts as applied to me. My hair is very hard to fade or rather, takes more patience and care. I'm a bit critical of my cuts and now beard, and it's hard to find the right stylist. After a lengthy talk about my hair, she got to work. She was very passionate about hair, and seemed to enjoy I took my appearance with the utmost care. Half way through I decide on a brow wax and a beard trim, added in at the end, masterfully crafted just like the high fade and hard part. I was a 5 yr client of the salon and its predecessor Market Street barbers. When my long-time barber who had transitioned to Cobalt departed I switched to the new OWNER/stylist Lisa. Unfortunately, that's where things went downhill. I was on a schedule of getting a haircut every two weeks. I repeatedly had issues getting on Lisa's schedule so I asked the receptionist to have her call me so we could figure something out. Lisa never called me back! A bit of a red flag, but hey sometimes people get busy. I finally had to call back and after a lot of back-and-forth I got a series of appointments spread three weeks apart. Don't get me wrong, Lisa is a talented stylist, unfortunately her customer service policy is "there is no customer service". More on that in a minute. I had to cancel an appointment pending a Covid test. After negative results I called back to reschedule. In the meantime I noticed my last appointment with Lisa was December 3 which meant I would go into the Christmas/New Year's holiday without an appointment for a haircut. When I spoke to the receptionist "Brett" and explained my predicament he told me he could get me in at 5 PM that upcoming Friday. I asked about some thing before the end of the year and was told Lisa had nothing! He seemed genuinely unmoved that I would have no appointment before the holidays. Sensing that I wasn't getting anywhere with Brett I asked him to have Lisa call me back. I left that request on Saturday afternoon. The following Tuesday I got a call from Stephanie, explaining that Brett had double booked Lisa and my Friday appointment was canceled. No offer of an alternative to reschedule!! I then asked if Lisa had figured out anything between December 3 and the end of the year and was told nothing was available. Stephanie then suggested that perhaps I could solve the problem by reaching out to another stylist at another salon! Frustrated, I began to tell Stephanie that in all the years I had been going to salons/barbershops I had never had these kinds of issues scheduling appointments! She decided to deal with my frustrations by hanging upon me! WTF? During Covid, all businesses are struggling which is why I try very hard to not only patronize local businesses but local businesses operating downtown! With that said, businesses that don't value their customers probably won't be in business for long. Choose wisely. read more

Audrey is not only super talented and attentive to your requests, but also a super cool girl to talk to as you're getting your cut. It's been about three weeks since my cut and I was nervous making an appointment here because I normally go to well established salons for biweekly clean ups in tier one cites (NY, SF, CHI). She called out areas where my last stylist botched and corrected them, even gave me advice for how to properly grow it out over time to achieve the style. Every appointment starts with a thorough consultation of what's working/what's not with your hair. She listens and gives great feedback. All the other stylists are really friendly and also do great work. Stephanie, the salon manager, is also so helpful and friendly. I buy all the products she uses in my hair because they really work for me, but I don't feel pressured to. The services are reasonably priced for the level of expertise and execution. Lisa is an award winning stylist and travels the country to educate other stylists. I get a compliment on my cut or color at least 4x a week. I'm not kidding. This was a terrible experience. I came in for balayage, my stylist agreed partial highlights would be better for what I wanted and was even cheaper. My original stylist couldn't finish my hair because she was so booked.. So another stylist blow dried my hair so I had no opportunity to talk face to face with my original stylist in telling her there was no difference color wise. I went to the counter to be over charged over $70 when I was told partial highlights would be cheaper. The add ons I was not told about equaled the amount I was planning to spend on the highlights. NOW- I came back so my original stylist could fix this.. We messaged about it on fb, set a time and was good to go with my ORIGINAL highlights plans. Got in and was told the owners are making me pay for services and time. Not only did I waste my time, I wasted my money and am so unhappy with my hair. For the price- you will not get what you want unless it's a short hair cut.. this salon is not worth it, just based off the fact that if you're not happy- they will in fact lie and say they will fix it but when you get there.. you have to pay. So unprofessional. To end this rant, their prices online didn't match. I HAD TO SHOW THE OWNER FOR HER TO BELIEVE ME. I had a 5 alarm hair emergency while traveling on business. After carefully reviewing and considering my options online, I decided to stop in at Cobalt. Now, I don't normally give myself such big pats on the back but my decision to go here was on point! I know NOTHING about hair. I just knew mine was a disaster and I get nervous about articulating what I want. After a thorough consultation with Rachel and Lisa, Rachel went to work on my color and cut. She is super! Once she was done, I was a little nervous with how "dark" my hair looked (I had gone from brassy summer highlights to a warmer fall tone). Lisa said "give yourself 2 days and you'll love it." It honestly took me about 3 but she was absolutely right. Amazing work and staff. If you are a beer fan like me, there is a store next door you can check out and enjoy your purchase on the adjoining patio out back while your hair processes. Review is for me this time - I have had my hair cut and colored by Aubrey, and cut again by her a second time. She is MAGNIFICENT, go to her. I am VERY particular about my hair, and she took the time to discuss what I wanted and also provide some insight as to color techniques and the best cut options for my thick wavy hair. The day I had my balayage done, she first did a test color before doing all of my hair - and she took the time to blow dry and style after, making sure it was what I wanted. She wanted to make sure I felt good about it even a few days later and said to stop by or call if I wanted to change anything after. She spent hours on my hair and I didn't feel rushed at all - in fact it felt like a spa experience with the eucalyptus essential oil hot towel and scalp massage during the shampoo.
