Cobra is located right next to the Christmas Village Amsterdam and the Museumplein so we stopped for a snack before heading over to the Christmas Village. It's very crowded, being as it's so close to the museums. I had some wild mushroom croquettes and my companion had Dutch pea soup (enormous bowl). We split an order of fries. It took a while to get the servers attention, both to order and to pay, though everyone was friendly, just very busy with bar orders, hot chocolates, gluhwein, etc. There is a charge for the bathroom, although the server can provide you with a ticket for it.

We stopped at Cobra for a break and a quick bite to eat between museums. It's near the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, and MOCO museum. There were a few food trucks outside these museums, but on a rainy, cold day, I just wanted to sit indoors, relax, warm up, and decompress for a bit. I tried the hot chocolate, which was warm, delicious, and less sweet than American hot chocolate, and my husband had a latte. We brought in what was left of a soda from the food truck, and the server told him he wasn't allowed to bring in outside food or beverages (even though we both ordered inside the restaurant). We shared an order of poffertjes, which are mini pancakes with powdered sugar and butter, and they hit the spot. You can find Dutch foods here as well, so it's a good chance to check those items off your list if you're in Amsterdam for a short time. This isn't a must-stop, but it was the right place at the right time in the Museum District.

I want 1/2 stars , as this restaurant wasn't quite 4 stars, but not is it a flat 3; going with 3.5 's. The staff is courteous & welcoming. You can pick inside patio, side patio, today the inside was completely reserved. For snacks we had the chicken & avocado sammie with truffle mayonnaise & Parmesan cheese, an order of chicken nuggets & an order of fries. When the nuggets arrived, I thought it was a child's dish, but overall they nuggets were tasty. Hubby had the chicken & avocado sammie, which came with truffle mayonnaise. There was a pint of beer & a soft drink. The meal was okay. People watching from this venue lends itself well. Great spot to catch a bite when you're coming out of the museum.

Right in the middle of the museum district. Great stop for a good beer and fries! It's a cute little Café enclosed in glass with a nice center bar. Service was good and quick!

Near the Van Gogh Museum. We enjoyed after lunch coffee before it's time to visit the Van Gogh Museum with our timed tickets. Decent Flat White: Nothing special but hits the spot. Service was fast, friendly and efficient!

We ate here for lunch between tours of the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum. Food was good, and so was service, although I had to ask for more water a second time. And the thin bottles of Pepsi Maxes kept adding up by meal's end. A Tuna Salad Sandwich for me, with mayonnaise, capers, celery, apple, Red Onions, tomatoes, and Mesclun Lettuce on Brown Bread was filled with moist tuna, and soft French Fries seemed fresh but were not very flavorful. Diane selected a Grilled Cheese Sandwich with Extra Cheese. She pronounced it tasty enough, but it did not look like it was brimming with cheese. Also, initially she did not have a napkin, and a small piece of crud was on her provided fork. Pureed Cauliflower Soup, the soup of the day that I ordered as an afterthought, was extremely smooth, hot, and excellent. 3-1/2 stars overall!

Located in the Museum Platt, this place has nowhere to go but to turn and burn visitors with quick, simple and ample F&B. They've even covered the market on the WC crisis. Charging €1 for use of the downstairs loo. Quickly seating you inside or outside, you scan the 1 page menu and order up. We ordered Soup du Jour which was a frickin tureen of scalding delicious Cauliflower-Carrot Potage with brown bread €7. Awesome paper thin Beef Carpaccio on arugula, on a Ciabatta sandwich roll €9, and the Beef Burger with caramelized onions and Frites €14. Service was incredibly polite, efficient and friendly. I witnessed plenty of pensioners hobbling in and they took care of them immediately. Lest they start the 100th Annual Grumble-Fest. I saw lots of damp, cold cranky, hangry folks looking for a knife fight, since they probably walked for 5 miles of being elbowed through crowded museum aisles of uninteresting billion $ artworks and sculptures. All leaving with smiles from smirks, drained bladders and fueled stomachs for the next marathon shuffling trying to see the grains of sand in a 150 year old Van Gogh seascape.

MUST. TRY. POFFERTJES!!! If anyone tells you that Amsterdam isn't known for any of their food, then don't listen to them because you don't know what life is until you've had poffertjes! Cobra Café is located right next to the "I am Amsterdam" sign next to the Rijksmuseum so if you're looking for a bite to eat, this is definitely a good place to start because it's so close to everything any tourist would want to visit. Cobra Café has a plethora of options to choose from but since I was freezing in 50° weather I opted for the soup of the day and a plate of delicious pancakes while my boyfriend got the burger and fries. And for drinks? Heineken, of course! The food was great and the service was decent. The only downside is that there's a charge for the bathroom which is part of the bill. Overall, would highly recommend coming here and definitely plan to do so when I return. (92/100 -- 2018)

Perfect place to wrap up our day at the Rijksmuseum! Stopped in for drinks and snacks when the museum closed. Great atmosphere, large glass windows with sunshine pouring into small bistro and cafe style tables in addition to bar seating. We ordered fries, served in a cone --nice fries not greasy in the least. Also -- Bitterballen which was delicious! Perfectly fried exterior & delicious beef gravy filling. Such good flavor! The favorite at our table though--was the Reypenaer which was a generous wedge of Dutch aged cheese , fig jam and slices of fresh bread. Delicious snacks --we would absolutely visit again!

Mediocre food - I got a sandwich- bread was good, rest was meh at best. Horrible service, even by European standards.

So good I stopped by twice on a 3 day trip to the city…read more I stopped by on my first visit craving a big, hearty sandwich for a late lunch and thought this might be a good find. Happy to report I was very right. I grabbed one of the many outside seats, took a look at the menu that was entirely in Dutch and waited for the wonderful waitress to quickly translate nearly every item for me. I landed on the chicken club and it hit the spot. I arrived hungry but could still only manage to finish half. Chicken was grilled perfectly into thin slices, soft boiled egg was a new touch that I loved, avocado, lettuce and probably a few other things I am forgetting. Oh, and a handful of crisps on the side. On my next visit, it was my last night in Amsterdam and I still haven't tried the infamous fries. I stopped in around 9:30 for a late night snack and a hot ginger tea. The fries were the perfect fries! Thin, crispy, salty. I loved. I also can get behind the mayo thing they do here, even though I really am a ketchup loyalist. Anyway, lunch or dinner or late night snack, this is a good spot. You'll like the foot and you'll love sitting outside people watching, reading your book, whatever.
