I understand that this is a credit union and not a bank. So, I am fine with the Benson branch closed on the weekend. I take exception with ASCU's policies regarding freezing accounts without notification. I have been stuck in Nevada, traveling by car on the WEEKEND, only to find that my account was frozen. Why? Well, they weren't sure if it was me traveling. So, they froze my card and I did not have enough cash to get home. Yes, I did have a credit card but I hadn't used it in years. This has happened a few times since, but I am now prepared. And so, once again, I have an issue with them. I was two days late paying a loan. I thought that I paid it with the app earlier this week. Apparently, when you are late paying a loan, they freeze your account. This includes the ability to pay said loan. Yes, this is mostly my fault this time. But, I sit there looking at the $$$ in my account, that I cannot touch, and it is so, so, frustrating. I have tried to change banks, but they filed some sort of claim against me...overdraft when my dad died..... and because of this I cannot open another account for 5 years.

Chase Bank in general is a good institution. But the local branch in Safford cannot seem to keep…read moretheir ATMs working. Every month I have to deposit a couple of small checks, but end up going inside and having to stand in line because their ATMS in the drive thru, the one out front and the one inside the bank are inoperative. Not everyone wants to use their cell phone to deposit checks or trust that process. Apparently this small town branch of a big bank is not important to their corporate folks. Our other choices are a credit union, a bank too small to handle our needs or the remaining corpse of Washington Federal, so we are stuck with a poorly supported Chase Bank branch.

Branch closures have made it inconvenient to get to the single branch left in Tucson. An hour round trip now. The app and website are down way too much and phone calls for technical support after hours? A robot that can only offer to change your password. And despite having direct deposit for over 25 years...they told us a couple months ago that we didn't qualify for online check deposits on the app because we didn't do enough business through the account. This despite having paid off three car loans with them. One as recently as last year. It was really nice to walk into a branch and be recognized and called by name and to reach a human being when a phone call was necessary. We are looking at ending our longstanding relationship with what we see as a much changed business.
