I had a 2:30 appointment wasn't taken until 3:05. Went through the initial exam with a new technician. Nice enough but inexperienced. Then I'm left in the exam room to wait for the doctor for another 25 minutes. They have a 10 minute late rule for patients but give nothing back when a 1/2 appointment turns into 2 hours. Check the true cost of your glasses before paying. While I have liked Cochise Eye and Laser before, a recent billing mistake leaves me with a so-so review. Purchased glasses in Jan 2025, agreed to the price the salesperson quoted me in writing and paid what the front desk requested. After wearing the glasses for over a month I received a bill for an additional $10. When asked, it was explained that human mistake was made in the original billing and I, as the customer, needs to pay for it or receive notice of failure to pay. Competence is just one of the important factors in selecting a doctor. Equally important is showing that they care about their patients and aren't simply one more quick task to rush through. I think the staff here, including the doctor, has been working too long in their fields and have become jaded. Even though the Wilcox street location was crowed, my first eye appointment went well. Was told I needed Cataract surgery on both eyes, which I expected. I had my first eye done one week ago. No problems and what a difference! I am HIGHLY impressed with how organized they are with instructions before and after the surgery. It was a breeze! I have never been asked for money upfront. I'm sure it has to do with what insurance plan you have. It's up to you to check on that before you proceed. I feel very comfortable that this is a very good place to have this done. read more

My V.A. doctors told me I had eye cataracts coming that would hinder my night vision; that I should have laser surgery , so I made an appointment with Cochise Eye & Laser , Went in & got the 1st eye done. A few weeks went by & they had un-bandaged the 1st eye & got the 2nd eye done. Things were hazy & not right but I didn't know exactly what. 2 weeks later at my post-op at another Cochise office, I figured it out. I told the technician ??? I was seeing double with my right eye and had a blank spot in my left ; 'see that doorknob, I look directly at it with only my left & its gone" . He said I'll be right back' 35 minutes later I left the little room & office & haven't been back. ABSOLUTELY STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE !!! I am between cataract surgeries. I had a cataract evaluation in Tucson, but the drive kills me and after the evaluation, they wanted to schedule the surgery THREE months out. So I got an appointment with the OD at Cochise Eye & Laser. Dr Lee, their OD, quickly decided that I was in great need of cataract surgery, especially in my right eye. There was of course a wait, but it was over two months sooner than if I had gotten it done in Tucson. Dr Lee & staff were on the ball, every polite & efficient. Over at the surgery center, the staff was likewise polite and extremely efficient. The surgery seemed to go smoothly enough and it was a lot less of a big deal than most folks on the interweb make it out to be. My follow-up with Claudia was a breeze. Both Dr Lee & Claudia must have gone to the same school of ultra-high efficiency & grace. They were impressive. There is a two-week pause between first eye surgery and second eye surgery, but my remaining eye isn't too bad so I expect the outcome to be a good one. Dr Aviles is quiet and efficient and my neighbor likewise loves him. The surgery center staff were also efficient and super friendly. (Yeah, Tucson is VERY overrated. Save yourself, stick to Sierra Vista!) read more

My dear friend, Dr. Rodcay started this business. After It grew in more doctors came in and he left. I started seeing the decline of the care at Cochise eye laser. I went in there last week. Told the doctor that I was having cataract surgery in Tucson because it was a specialty cataract surgery because my eyes had been damaged. I told him that I had my eyes dilated last week and I was having my right eye done, but I still needed a contact for my left eye that was still fine. He refused to give me an eye exam told me he wouldn't take care of me and I left and went to a place in Tucson the next day where they were so nice gave me an eye exam handed me my prescription gave me a pair to wear until I ordered my contacts just like you would expect ,to be taken care of by an eye doctor. Also, their contacts take 2 to 3 weeks to come in and their eyeglasses just as much .they're super expensive. I'd stay away from this place if I were you. read more

Very bad customer service, cowardly liars for support staff. CE&L canceled an appointment, never telling me. When I showed up, they gave a lie about how they left a voice mail. When I called out the lie and left, the office manager then left a voice mail saying the lie of "someone" answered the voice mail, and I should be mad at myself. I called her back to tell her off and the brave young lady let her voice mail take the heat. In will let my cat treat my family's eyes before I use them again. read more

I really support this business and I am shocked about the reviews. We go for our annual eye testing and prescriptions for the past seven years and have never had a problem. I will not be going back. I wish I had read all the reviews prior to going. I have insurance and my appointment should have been covered fully. However, I was told by their billing dept. they billed to my medical insurance instead of vision insurance. How ridiculous! The office staff was professional enough and prepared me for the 2-hour visit before I arrived, so I was ready for that. My complaint is with Dr. Aviles! He is rude and even crude for a professional; the worst 'bedside manner' I've ever experienced. He made me feel like I was wasting his precious time. I didn't sneak across the border for free services and even I had, I deserve to be treated with respect and patience. My son is a doctor and the one thing I've always taught him is to treat his patients like he would like to be treated. I would NOT recommend Dr. Aviles to anyone if you paid me to! Easy to schedule, friendly staff. The doctor took extra time to answer questions, explain conditions and procedures. On one visit my son had broken his only pair of glasses. They were able to provide a new pair THE SAME DAY! One time my wife decided to try tinted lenses. They gave her a headache, so she went back. The lenses were quickly replaced with clear ones and the bill adjusted accordingly. We do not have eye care insurance, but the staff works with us on the medical and optical exams to make it quite affordable. read more

I am surprised by the negative reviews, and want to be certain that I share my own experiences with this office, and specifically with Eric Johansen, O.D. I initially saw him for dry eye problems, and appreciated the prompt service, minimal waiting time, and Dr Johansen's diagnostic ability, as well as his 'listening carefully' to me, as I expressed my concerns. As the dry eye problem worsened, I saw him an additional time; he ruled out retinal problems and any glaucoma/macular degeneration risk. To be honest, I find his care to be 'superior' to that of 2 'ophthalmologists' I have seen in our city. I find the office staff to be courteous and efficient, and will definitely choose this office--and Dr Johansen's care-- again (I have a refraction appt next week!) read more

I visited this place last year with my MD's referral. Of course I made an appointment with an opthalmologist about my problem with one eye bloodcell busted. When I got there, the opthalmologist wasn't in and eye glass doctor came. He did examine my eyes for a lengthy time, then said he wouldn't know what happened to my eye and referred me to another doctor. I will never come to this place for anything. read more

If you're an active duty soldier, you are essentially property of the U.S government and therefore must use their facilities or get an authorization from your PCM if you want to get seen at a private practice. It's not fair to blame the business for that rule, as it's an issue of compliance with the federal government and has absolutely nothing to do with an individual business making that decision. Cochise Eye and Laser is home to the only full-time Ophthalmologist in Cochise County, so expect a sizable wait if you're looking to get in at their Wilcox drive office. Because Cochise Eye and Laser is contracted with so many different insurances, and because they provide both routine and medical services between multiple offices, they'll ALWAYS need to know what you're covered by before they can give an answer to "Do you have any openings tomorrow". Because the answer to that question will vary depending on who you're covered through and what you're being seen for. Now, with all of that said, I've trusted CE&L with the care of mine and my family's eyes for several years. I've always been satisfied with the quality of care we receive, and during times when I didn't have routine vision coverage the staff worked with me and cut me a pretty sizable discount when I was a cash-pay patient. Wait times can sometimes get pretty long if you're down at the Wilcox drive office, but from what I've seen this is almost always the result of Doctors Aviles and Felter already having a full patient load and then being unable to turn away emergencies that walk or call in (what are they supposed to tell someone with an emergency eye injury? "Sorry we're busy, go to Tucson"? I'm pretty sure they're bound by law not to do that). The staff is super helpful and always goes out of their way to answer my questions, and the optical staff is committed to customer satisfaction (they remade my father's lenses multiple times as he adjusted to no-line progressives, which I'm sure could not have been cheap - wouldn't surprise me if they took a loss on it just to make sure Dad was happy with his glasses). Cochise Eye and Laser is also THE place in the greater Cochise County area to get your cataracts removed. Dr. Aviles is their in-house ophthalmologist and surgeon, and he's extremely meticulous and great at what he does. He may not be as personable as his staff, but that's not as relevant to your experience as the masterful level of medical care he provides. In a nutshell: Great staff. Knowledgeable, trusted medical professionals. True commitment to patient satisfaction, but expect to wait if you want to get seen on the medical side unless it's an emergency. Got cataracts? My eye appt was at the beginning of Aug. The front staff and the drs were great. I ordered 2 pairs of glasses and was suppose to receive a trial pair of contacts. It's Sept 10th and I have neither. The 2 people working in the area where the glasses are located are the worst. STILL have no trial pair and today, a month and a half later, they inform me to try a different brand. ALMOST A MONTH AND A HALF LATER!! My glasses came in but the one pair had the thickest lenses I ever saw so I returned them for a refund. The other pair was not as thick but should have been a lot thinner so sent those back to the lab. The guy that works in that area told me they'd be there in on the 9th. Called 4 times on the 9th to see if they were there. Got a call back later in the afternoon saying their shipment never came. Called three times today. Finally got to talk to the woman that said they're not coming in until next Tues or weds. Absolutely lost it. A month and a half later, no glasses, no contacts and crappy customer service. Yuck! TERRIBLE customer service. I was on vacation, and called to make an appointment with an optometrist for an eye exam. BEFORE they even asked my name, they asked for my insurance number and type of insurance. I just wanted to know if they had an appointment open for the next day. They would not tell me if they had any openings until they verified my insurance. That is actually discrimination. I am contemplating reporting them to the attorney general's office. I happen to know that my insurance will cover me anywhere I travel, as I have a 'cadillac' plan. Not to mention, my husband makes over a million dollars a year, so I think we have it covered. ***TERRIBLE PLACE! GO HERE AT YOUR OWN PERIL!!!*** Service is awful. Staff are overall rude and appear incompetent when it comes to explaining their procedures and policies. They don't return phone calls and it's always 'someone else that's dealing with it'. I was referred to this company by another optometrist after having a standard eye exam for glasses (which was covered by my eye insurance), as the pressure in my eyes was reading high. Took along my referral for them to do a medical glaucoma screening. Had the test, and doctor examined my eyes with a light. I have high vision insurance, and was only required to pay about $10 copay on the day. I've since received a bill from them for $160 for an 'eye exam'. After disputing this with them for four months, back and forth - It's their fault, then it's my fault - receiving repeated invoices, and eventually just being told that the bill stands, and will have to be paid, I have finally given in and paid the bill. I did NOT receive and eye exam at this company. One member of staff has since said that the eye exam is a mandatory procedure when a new patient comes to their company. However I DID NOT receive an eye exam - I was referred to them after an eye exam, and they knew that - Which is why I was only screened for glaucoma. The additional bill for an eye exam is completely fabricated and not covered by my insurance, as they only cover 1 eye exam a year. I think they are trying to pull something! RIDICULOUS and UNSCRUPULOUS! I will never have anything to do with this company ever again, and if it weren't for their complete lack of professional communication and a fear of my credit being affected by an unpaid bill, I would have told them to go stuff it. But their stance is that the bill is owed, and must be paid. NICE! Awful company, and from reading other negative reviews on here, I don't think they'll be around for much longer in a small town like this! read more

The young ladies in the shop were friendly and very helpful when it came to helping choose sunglasses, and then later, with adjusting the sunglasses so they fit me well and were comfortable. Front office has the rudest behavior. To tell a patient they are late, and the doctor cannot see us when we were 5 minutes early to our appt. is a new one for me! Apparently you are considered late if you do not arrive 15 minutes early. Check in time is 15 minutes prior and I was told since we missed check in time,( which somehow became a 10 minute window) I would not be seen. I was 5 minutes early to my appointment time! By the end of the childish grasp at authority from the front receptionist that went on for 15 minutes and the threat we may not get seen, I chose to ignore it for the time being so my child could get the medical attention she deserves. I literally walked out furious at one point, but decided I would suck it up for the sake of my child. Never in my life would I treat our clients the way we were treated. The attempt of professionalism in policy is completely lost when there is absolutely no attempt at customer service. The doctor did see us, seemed to be no problem on his end and was able to provide treatment. We didn't put him behind schedule in any way. I was asked if we wanted to do an eye exam as my child does need new glasses, but at that point, I was not about to give this office anything more. Doctor, you were nice, but that front office caused you to miss out on money, and continued care from us. We could have been lifetime returning patients with many people in our family to see as repeat patients. In a town this small, one cannot afford to lose patients and risk the bad word of mouth. My experience with cochise eye and laser was ABSOLUTELY AWFUL. no one follows up on your glasses. they tell you one thing and do another. I was Lied to on several occasions about the status of my glasses.After over two weeks i still don't have all my glasses back.they must have part time employees as you can never talk to the same person when you call back.I now cant ever get the frames back in a timely fashion so i can get a refund and take the frames somewhere else for my lenses. Alex promised she would personally handle the problem SHE DID NOT. She said Mark, the manager would call me back the next day. HE DID NOT. I was called back from the PERSON WHO HAD NOT FOLLOWED OP ON MY GLASSES TO BEGIN WITH. and that person who i will not name said she had sent the last pair off to another company with WRONG instructions. so i asked to please just get my frames back so i could get a refund and go to another company for my lenses.. I made my living as a retailer and for the life of me, I can not imagine why they would treat any customer so POORLY.
