The run has three separate fenced areas for your dog(s) and their friends to run, play, or just check out the scents of other visitors. The fencing appears to be secure and in good condition - standard chain link - with one exception (picture included). If your dog is a jumper or a large dog that is motivated, you will want to walk the fence line for your dog's area. There are tennis balls for the dogs (lots of them) and buckets of water. There were five other dogs in the dog run while we were there, three appeared to be together and one of the three was very aggressive; they got their own area as the other dog owners steered clear. Lots of parking and a porta-potty for the humans. And it is loud at the dog run, because of the proximity to I64. And of course the dog run is located in Cherokee Park, so you can get your steps in before after your pooch gets theirs. Dogs must be licensed and members of the dog run association. No free lunch, but a welcome substitute for a large back yard if you are a resident of Louisville metro. read more

For the Louisville Dog Run dog parks, this particular location is just about in the middle. Not the best, not the worst. Pros: * Big. * Location. Cons: * Too many weeds and bushes. * The regulars tend to be a bit too casual (big dogs in the small dog section, etc.). * Doesn't seem to be as well-kept as the other parks. I don't know. It's fine. Cochran Hill Dog Run is a great dog park! Batman absolutely loves it here! Your dog does have to have a park permit to visit, but it's totally worth it. I know you can pick them up at Feeder's Supply, because that's where we got Batman's. There's also a list of rules to check out online, and it's important to do that so you know that you are following them, and to ensure your pets' safety and offer them, as well as the other pets and owners, the best experience at the park. At first I was a bit annoyed with the hassle you have to go through to use the dog park, but I think on the whole it works out well. The money seem to go to maintaining the park and sometimes upgrading it. Since you have to get your dog vaccinated and licensed to enter the park you know most of the owners are at least somewhat responsible pet owners, which is reassuring. Having a small dog side is nice, most big dogs play ruff. The people I've met are friendly as well. Plus for the socially awkward you have something in common to talk about already... your dog(s)! read more

This dog run is divided in two -- one side for big dogs and another side for small dogs. That rule isn't strictly enforced, however, as I have seen small dogs in the big dog side and vice versa. As long as you and your dog are good citizens, nobody seems to care too much. My dog loves this place. There's lots of space for her to stretch her long legs and run, chase balls, and sniff around. You can throw a ball a good, long way, and give your pup some serious exercise. There is an abundance of donated or left-behind toys to throw or play tug-of-war with. One thing that's very handy is the washing station. They have this elevated platform where you can tie your dog by his leash and hose him off. This matters because there's large areas where there's no grass. Your pup's feet will get dirty, especially on damp, muddy days. But with that station, you can hose those toes and then you just have a wet dog in your car instead of a muddy one. I've never run into mean, aggressive dogs here. Both human and canine members are good citizens. The dogs play nice. The humans pick up the dogs' messes. It's a fun place to hang out for a while. read more

This dog run is our go-to park. It's well maintained, most of the dogs are friendly and the humans are pretty nice, too. You do need a membership to get in, but that also means that the dogs are vaccinated and registered. At $40/year, you really can't beat the experience. Not to mention, you receive access to parks throughout the city. There's also tennis balls, baby pools, gazebos and plenty of space to run. If you want a lot of dog interaction, go between 5 and 7pm on the weekdays. It can get crowded and playful, but is generally under control. Pro tips: 1) Always bring a towel to wipe off your pup's feet as it can get pretty dusty in there 2) Grab waste bags when you walk in; it's the worst when your dog goes #2 in the middle of the park and you have to walk to the station and then go find it again to pick up 3) If your pup is shy, don't sit on the edge. Stand in the middle and she'll quickly learn it's ok to socialize. 4) Let the dogs play! Yes, they are going to be curious and rumble a bit, but that's the nature of dogs. Oh, the humans won't bite either! 5) Put down your phone and enjoy the time at the park with your furry pal. They've been waiting all day to have fun with you! read more

But for people visiting, traveling through KY, I couldn't get anyone to respond to my request of a visitor pass or something other than annual membership. Pups must be annually registered with LDRA and of course have vaccinations up-to-date to be a member of the dog park. With that being said, the pups (big &small) and their loving owners are ALMOST always very responsible with picking up after their dogs, being considerate of other pups who are playing rough, being too barky, or unfriendly ( though this is rarely ever the case ). Cochran hill dog run is a great place for akoya to chase her faster friends, wrestle with bigger pups, and just to stand next to the humans and look pretty. Everyone is friends here. read more

This place is so nice. There are often tons of doggos, and the other pet owners are nice to talk to while my buddy gets his running in for the day. Totally worth the price. I would invest in a waterproof seat cover for your back seat since it does get a bit muddy and then you can use their hose to wash your dog off before going home so it does not get tracked everywhere. read more

Not as great as the expansive Tom Sawyer dog park, but this is definitely the place to take your dog in Cherokee park. For those not familiar with Louisville dog runs, a membership is required (but at $30 a year, this is one of the best uses of your money if you're a dog owner!). Parks are typically divided into a small dog area and an all dog side. Plenty of benches and picnic tables to relax on while the pups play, and lots of toys and water for the dogs themselves. My only gripe (and maybe I'm just too much of a stickler for the rules), is the number of people who bring big dogs into the small dog side. There's a reason these parks are divided so that the small dogs have a comfortable area for themselves and signs indicating this are prevalent. Please don't ignore them! Other than that, this place is a great way to take my dogs to release their energy and make some new friends. read more

Pretty well kept dog park. They have water for the dogs and they even provide poop bags so you can pick up after your dogs. It's a great place to socialize your dog. Since this place is pretty open, you can keep a good eye on your dog and other people's dog to make sure that they are behaving. This is a fenced dog park. You are required to have a permit to come into this dog park. This makes sure that all the dogs that go through the door are up to date with their vaccinations, and that your dog will not get sick from other sick dogs. You are required to remove your dog at the first sign of aggression. Please do, because dogs like to gang up sometimes and it is inappropriate behavior. Overall, this place is a pretty good place to take your dog to have some exercise, without worrying that your dog will run away. read more

No surprise if you've been here during the winter months of 18'-19'... it's a muddy mess so would be nice to have some of the mud pits addressed with rubber mulch or something to allow the water to dry out. So get ready for poo-sham fer der nahgen! But the areas for big and little dogs are both very spacious for the pups to burn off some energy. Everyone we've met has either great dogs and/or are aware owners who know and pay attention to their pup especially if being a little too aggressive. You have to have a fob (purchase from Feeders) for $35 per year, requiring proof of vacs, which is nice!
