The pupusa place has recently gone through a new management change in the last 7 months and is being run by a Salvadoran family, very loving and super sweet people. I'd say that for the cheap prices and amount of food you can get this place and totally worth it. Honestly i dont recommend this place for dining in. Me and my family are regulars and have been coming here to dine for years. Its disappointing because this place used to be really good. So I went today for lunch, and first off, the drinks tasted bad. I remember there used to be a soda machine, now it's just Aguas frescas, and when I got this pineapple drink, it had a weird dirty aftertaste, and there was black stuff in the ice. Then the thing that has always bothered me when I come recently is that the pupusa area is usually always empty because the woman never makes any, even when there are customers in the building. You actually have to call her up because she's usually hiding all the way in the back of the kitchen on her phone, to tell her what pupusas you want, because she won't make any. And when my mom asked for some loroco cheese pupusas, she straight up told her she doesn't have any. She also gave me and my mom a dirty look because we chose not to tip her, when in all honesty she doesn't even try to give even the most decent customer service. as for the food, really the only good thing is the chicken soup. It's called "PupUSA" Cocina Latina is easily the best Salvadoran food in the city. It's actually among the best 3 Salvadoran restaurants I've ever eaten at. But not in terms of complexity of menu or service, not at all. We're just talking about price, here. What a f***ing steal this place is. There are other locations closer to the city, but none as perfect as this one, out on Club Creek. It's spacious and while food may take awhile to come out, it's worth it. We are talking about a city with hundreds of wonderful pupuserias all over the place, and this is the one that you should come to. I've tried dozens of the others, and none compare. Their revuelta pupusa is wonderful, and their Salvadoran style tamale wrapped in a Banana Leaf delicious and moist is second to none. In case you didn't know, Salvadorans make the very best tamales. Wrapping them in the green leaves causes them to be moist and juicy, rather than the more dried-out versions in corn husks. If you like, banana leaves are like Penthouse, whereas corn husks are like Huskler. And don't get me started on the wonderful red sauce and pickles that go with Salvadoran food. The red sauce here is probably the best I've had. It's more orange. Orange you glad I told you that. And again, don't get me started on the amazing collection of drinks. Seven or eight different fruit types, self service, all-you-can-drink, no refill charge, aguas frescas style. They have yummy Centroamerican-style Horchata. They have perfect pineapple, magnificent mango, mouthwatering melon, juicy jamaica, and many more wonderful drinks. Try a little of all of them to figure out which is your favourite. Bear in mind they're all very bad for you. Service is sometimes good and sometimes absolutely awful, but one thing you can rely on is that the prices will be bargain-basement bottom-of-the-barrel, ridiculously dirt cheap. And that your food will be sensational. For the people talking about "risking safety", yeah ok. Can Yelp get any more bougie? OMG POOR PEOPLE DID YOU BRING A GUN. Don't expect to be quick in and out because there's often a decent length wait time. Speaking of quick in and out, what are you doing for the next 15 minutes? Wait, are you from a Latin country? Lamento decir que estoy súper decepcionada. I was really looking forward to trying this place based on reviews. I'm from El Salvador so good Pupusas are very important to me. I called to place an order to go. I drove 30 min in rush hour for our family dinner. I ordered 6 chicharrón con queso, 2 cheese and 2 mixed. I got my order and drove back home (another 30 min). Just as I'm getting home, the lady calls me to tell me she forgot to add 4 Pupusas to my order. If I could come back for them (at 6pm on a Friday? Nope!) So now I have half my order. Oh well. Now the Pupusas tasted just OK. Nothing special. The cheese was kinda yellow, not the white kind they usually use in authentic Pupusas. To my surprise, the chicharrón had chicken pieces in it. See my photos. It didn't taste like true authentic grounded chicharrón. I also ordered plátanos con frijoles. Well, my plátanos were basically charred black and burned. Didn't taste right either. I'm sad to say I will not be going back. Service was lacking and food was not good. Now to find a good Pupusa place for my home cravings. read more

good prices for the buffet. they have like 5 different options. I really like the bean pork and cheese the best. Their bean and pork is a close second for me. They have a cheese one, and some others that I tried but tasted meh. The horchata is amazing, tastes exactly like my friends mom who makes it homemade. Located next to an abandoned washateria that looks like a meet up place for drug deals to go down in, cocina latina is a restaurant that proves that people will go to any environment if the food you sell is worth the fear of your safety. Thats just a long way of saying that this place is quite ghetto. I came here with my 2 other asian friends and lo and behold, we were stared at for a good 5 minutes by all the hispanic or salvadoran customers in the room (sorry if im not being PC, but they were all speaking spanish so i go with my best assumption). Although i did feel slightly uncomfortable (it felt like some of these people had never seen an Asian before), i felt confident that this place was legit because a salvadoran restaurant full of salvadorans is always a good sign. Its like if you walk into a chinese restaurant and see no chinese people eating there...then it probably sucks. Anyway, the sign outside the restaurant said the buffet was $4.99 but my friends and i were charged $7.99 each....not sure if the race card had anything to do with it, but nevertheless, they were friendly and we just paid it (like good passive asians). Onto the food. Delish. They only sell pupusas, which are basically big fluffy flour tortillas stuffed with different ingredients. Different selections: 1) only flour 2) pork with queso 3) beans and queso 4) mix of pork and beans and queso 5) chicken and queso 6) queso. So its basically queso heaven and lactose intolerant hell. They also had a chicken vegetable soup that was delicious (broth was a little too salty but that chicken meat was fall-off-the-bone tender). I drank 2 bowls of that and still craved more but was too full. The picante red sauce is sweet while the green sauce is super spicy. After you finish getting your food in the line, you take your pupusas to your table and each table is stocked with a tub filled with curitdo, which is fermented cabbage with red chilis and vinegar. Its like a more spiced up coselaw. You add that on your pupusa, add some picante sauce, and fold your pupusa like a taco and enjoy. The pork with queso and the chicken with queso was excellent. Not only was the shredded meat and cheese cooked to an unhealthy perfection, the texture balance between the soft flour tortilla and crispness of the curitdo added to the enjoyable taste. Next time i come back though, im gonna take some tortilla off bc there was way too much carbs for my liking--i got full off 2 pupusas. $7.00 for 2 pupusas and 2 chicken soups--i was actually left very satisfied. Drinks prob all involved some sugary syrup (i taste trialed each one and there was one drink you could literally see the separation of the sugar syrup and liquid...). But if the sweet stuff is how you roll then youll love it! They have horchata and jamaica (kind of like a sweet hibiscus tea). I just asked for some aqua and was very kindly serviced. Overall, you enter the parking lot feeling a little scared for your life, but you leave feeling very full and satisfied. Would highly recommend to anyone craving some salvadoran food. I hope this business continues doing well bc the workers (even if they did rip us off) were very quick, efficient, and friendly. They have maximized on their product and cooked and sold it well.
