I got invited by a friend to come see her daughter in the Black Nativity. I was super excited and…read moreinvited other friends to join me. This play was good community theater. The songs got me right into the Christmas spirit and gave me that old time black church gospel vibe. The first half was dedicated to the nativity that we're all familiar with. The Arena Players had their own special twist on the story, but the end result was the same" unto us a child is born. Jesus Christ, Savior of the world. The 2nd half takes you to church with testimonies followed by some good ole gospel music. They had you singing along, clapping your hands, and tapping your feet. They took us to church. The only reason they're not getting 5 stars is because the audio was none existent. No one was one had a mic on, and had I not been sitting in the front row it would have been extremely hard to hear them. It's a real shame because their voices were beautiful. My friends who have seen other production agreed with me, but said the plays they've seen there that they did have mics on. Perhaps they had some technical difficulties. I hope they fix that before their next production in January. They also have a Youth Theater program for ages 4.5 to 18. There's no bad view in there. We went to see Fences. Great production, actors/ actresses, and costumes. I love the convenient concession, and lavatory inside of the venue. This way, you don't have to step out of the production room. I look forward to attending many more productions here at this location in the near future.

I went to my first play at the Chesapeake Shakespeare Company last weekend. A friend and I visited…read morethe theater for a performance of Jane Austen's Persuasion. The theater is beautiful - very comfortable and intimate - not a bad seat in the house. They have a couple of bars and some seating areas, which made for an enjoyable intermission. My only (very small) complaint about the theater is that it was hard to find the bathrooms, and we waited a while, because the one women's room we found was a single stall bathroom. I think there was a larger women's room somewhere, but we didn't find it! The play was interesting - I'd never seen a theater adaptation of a Jane Austen novel, and the adaptation was interesting and some of the actors were really great. We had a great time. I was surprised to see and learn that not all of the Company's performances are of Shakespeare - later this season, they have August Wilson's Fences (part of the Baltimore August Wilson Celebration), Shakespeare's The Tempest, A Christmas Carol, and Shakespeare's The Tale of Cymbeline (performed outdoors in Ellicott City). I'll happily return for another performance!

I found a Kids Paint Workshop and even though I was unsure of what to expect, I booked it and showed up with my girl. I am beyond excited that this center exists near me! Staff informed me it's an old school that was turned into this multi use art center. There were multiple classes going on, dance, art, etc. The attended workshop was such a pleasant surprise. It was affordable and my kids really enjoyed it and completed a real piece of art to display in our home! The instructor was professional, friendly, and patient with the children. Even though my son did not meet the age requirement, she still allowed him to participate (I paid and stayed to assist him). Afterwards, we were able to walk through the 2 free Art Exhibits on display which boasted beautiful work that was also for sale. My kids were so intrigued. They were amazed with the materials that were used & interested, asking questions and commenting on the visuals. I truly appreciate this center exposing children to the arts at a level they can comprehend. Don't hesitate to book a class or check out an exhibit! You will not be disappointed!

There was an old musky smell that permeated all throughout as if the building hadn't opened in a while. Other than that it appeared clean and the seats appeared to be new. The rest rooms are located in the front of the building as soon as you enter, one on either side. There is a nice size lobby, the comedians were selling T-shirts, CD's, and odds and ends. I did not see a concession stand.

They are a non-profit organization that is more interested in teaching dance as an art form than making a buck. I've had at least one of my munchkins going here for the last 4 years (ever since we moved to this area). Between them they've taken Ballet 1, 2, 3, 4, Pre-Pointe, Pointe, Modern Dance, Tap, and Jazz...so I think we've seen quite a variety of classes. We could not be happier with KDT. It has been and continues to be a positive place for our munchkins to learn dance (and made some good friends to boot). If you're in the market for a place for your little ones (or even big ones) to learn about dance I'd definitely suggest checking them out.

It's a 1-man show, kept us enthralled with his intelligent, engrossing, thought-provoking dialogue about his relationship with those he loves, and the connection between love, God, spirituality, etc. Outstanding production at the Horowitz Center for the Arts at Howard Community College. Who would've thought that a top tier, certainly as good as anything in DC--was in the burbs, but it is--and well worth seeing. We've also seen a baroque music concert at the same Center for the Arts, and it was first-class as well. Check it out--less crowds, we found an excellent Vietnamese pho restaurant close-by, world class performances!
