I love how the East Bay/Bay holds so many large and somewhat isolated islands/communities (Mare Island, Treasure Island, Alameda Island..). Each region holds so much history and also, really cool businesses like Mare Island Brewing Co. There was a super cool weekend community event here recently organized by the local Vallejo fire department with art/food/music and more, and it was such a cool vibe. There's so much space out there for the kiddos to ride their bikes/scooters safely, and so many cool activities like learning all about the maritime culture out there, singing shantey songs aboard the C.A. Thayer, fresh brews and yummy food, and if going on a specific weekend, maybe a cool event to pop into. We were surprised by how many people were out there at the brewery ~ it was such a beautiful day with great weather and great service/atmosphere. Seems like the Mare Island Brewing staff have nailed doing events here, and all the components for a fun time out, since it's a drive for anyone coming from different directions. All in all, such a great time out. Would love to come back and try a beer flight (beer is made on-site and is so fresh and crisp), house-made cocktail, or even the burger which looked delish. AFTER I already paid and had it in hand, I'm told I'm not even allowed to drink the growler there. No heads up. No warning. Nothing. If that had been made clear upfront, I never would've ordered it in the first place. Pretty frustrating to find out after the fact. The view is honestly great -- probably the best part of the whole experience -- but it didn't make up for the lack of communication. Ended up walking down the pier and just drinking it out of the jug because at that point, what else was I supposed to do?

According the to the hours posted, they were supposed to be open but no one was there. Luckily I called 4 Seasons Party Rentals and he was able to see me right away and did a great job for our 16-person lunch that raised $125,000. DO NOT use this business for party rentals. at almost $8,000 per person raised, it's not worth taking any chances. We need these donors and these donors need tables and chairs to actually show up. They could have completely ruined this important events. If you can't trust them to show up to a meeting, how can you trust them with your special event.

We opted to order drinks from the bar instead. Later he came up to our table and asked loudly "DID YOU FILL OUT MY FORM?", when we said no he replied "I THOUGHT YOU WANTED TO GET INTO THE TASTING." It was beyond absurd. I have supported Redwood Empire for years through my local stores. I reached out to the brand via their website about this experience and never received a response. Thankfully there's no shortage of distillers in northern California with quality products and better customer service.

The woman asked what kind of party we were having and how old the birthday child was. When I told her it was a 10th birthday party, she immediately said it probably wasn't a good place to rent because they have chandeliers and mirrors that could break if kids were throwing balls. I understand wanting to protect the venue, but the way she responded came across as very dismissive and unwelcoming. There are definitely more professional ways to explain the venue's rules or limitations without making a potential customer feel like their event would be a problem. After that interaction, I told her I didn't appreciate the customer service and decided not to rent the venue. First impressions matter, and unfortunately, this one was not a good one.
