I came in for partial highlights and ended up paying more than I was looking to spend. I asked right away how much it would cost and the hairstylist and I agreed upon a price of $80. At the end of my service my hair was wet and she immediately began blow drying my hair. I thought this is normal since the temperature was -10. She asked if I wanted to curl or straighten - I said neither no its not necessary since i'm not going anywhere. So we finished up and headed to the front to pay. The final total was more than I expected. I asked for a price breakdown and the receptionist told me there is a charge of $15 for blow dry and straighten. I was very surprised since I was never told this would be a charge! The worst thing about it is I never even got my hair straightened yet had to pay for it :( This left a sour taste in my mouth. Also I want to mention even though it isn't a big deal that when she was rinsing my hair it was mostly cold water which wasn't very relaxing or comfortable. Usually the hairstylist will massage my hair for a little which is amazing but this didn't happen. Just little things like that make a difference for the customer experience. read more

The best salon I have ever been to! The friendliest staff, exclusive Aveda products and the royal treatment. I have been coming to this salon since the 90's. Yes I may have ventured off to other salons at one time or another but I always came back. Why? Because the expert, first class styling. Always what I want. Never a screw up. My favourite is the scalp massage that seems exclusive to this salon. That pretty well puts me in the most relaxed mood. (I never do feel as though I regain true consciousness after that!). Matthew, the salon owner usually does my hair but I have also had Frank cut and style but either one does a spectacular job. My hair looks natural and healthy and flows wonderfully back in style even after walking in windy conditions. Easy to restyle. Moreover the colourist - Nadia does a fabulous job at highlighting or low-lights using Aveda products (all natural ingredients) and I leave with healthy, shiny hair. She is so sweet, just a darling! You can't beat this. Although I have never purchased their Spa packages (only because I just haven't found the time) I want to. I know it would be an awesome experience. After I am done I feel and look like a million bucks and I feel so relaxed. (Sometimes I just have to go home and have a nap because of this wonderfully relaxing experience!). Lastly I would like to mention how beautiful the salon is. The decor is modern and soothing. You must check Coco Mazzi out at least once! This past weekend I made an appointment to have a "Night on the Town" package done so I could look my best for an evening with my fiancé. I was using a gift certificate which was given to me in 2009 (according to Coco Mazzi). I informed the woman whom I spoke with on the phone who I was booking my appointment with that I had a gift certificate. I know I had received the gift certificate a few years ago, so the day before I had looked it up on their website to confirm their policies, their website stated "NO Expiry" I thought that was great. There was never a thought that crossed my mind that I should ask about additional inflation costs over the years. The only reason I was using my gift certificate so many years later, is because just after I had been given it as a gift, my fiancé was diagnosed with cancer, then right after my mom was diagnosed with cancer, this took up many years of my life, never allowing me to have a night on the town until now. I was so excited to get dolled up to look my best for my fiancé, I was having such a great time getting pampered. It felt even better because I knew I could walk out paying nothing but the gratuities. Boy was I wrong. When I got to the counter and showed her my gift certificate she told me it would be $75, my jaw dropped and my heart sank, then the lady behind her said "no no that's not right" I thought oh good she must have made a mistake, she then tells me "no its $90-I almost fell over. My free day out has now cost me $90 that I didn't have. I told the cashier that wasn't right, that cant be. She told me "Sorry hun, inflation goes up, your gift certificate was purchased at a dollar amount of $75 and the package now costs $110". No where on their website or gift certificate does it state if a gift certificate purchased is not used within a certain time period-you will need to pay the difference of inflation that's accumulated over the years. I left feeling humiliated, robbed and angry. I don't have an extra $90 to spend on hair, make-up and nails right now, I'm trying to recover our finances from having a partner with cancer. I used this certificate because it was going to be FREE! My fiancé called the salon when I got home because I was so upset and stressed. The manager didn't care and had no sympathy towards my situation. I will never return to Coco Mazzi again or refer my family like I was planning. read more
