I ordered one of the signature dishes to try something new, the Khao Soi, and it was phenomenal. The curry broth was very flavorful and just spicy enough for me (though spicy sauce is available for those who want more kick), and all the toppings made for a flavor and texture explosion. It seemed there were a handful of regulars at lunch time which is always a good sign. I'm hoping to come back again soon and hopefully join the regulars club. read more

I love this new Thai restaurant! It's conveniently located, consistently good. We are blessed in Santa Cruz to have many amazing Thai restaurants. What's special about Coconut is they seem to specialize in some regional items from Northern Thailand you don't find everywhere. Khao Soi is one such dish, a homey stew of egg noodles, yellow curry, and pickled greens. I loved the tang of the pickled greens. Roti prata is another -- flaky roti served with yellow curry and fresh cucumber salad. I crave this as a breakfast dish sometimes; I've never seen it offered in any Thai restaurant in Santa Cruz. Coconut's version is perfect: the roti is thin flaky, not heavy or greasy, and the yellow curry accompaniment is on point. Also tried favorite Thai standards like pad see ew, chicken satay, red curry, Penang salmon etc and it was all fresh and delicious. The ladies who work there are super sweet. Excellence service. Might be my new favorite Thai spot in town!! We ordered takeout but the vibes in the restaurant seemed clean and lowkey when I went to pick up. As other reviews said, prices are a dollar or two higher than other spots in santa cruz. But taste is jam packed!! I had the Pad Thai with Tofu and when I brought it home to eat it was still warm! So flavorful and the noodles were a good chewy consistency. Not overcooked. My friend had Pas See Ew with Tofu and was also happily surprised with how good it was. The veggie spring rolls were fresh and crunchy. The mango sticky rice topped off an excellent meal. Ripe mango and gooey sticky rice with lots of coconut sauce. Delicious food that is beautifully plated! Ordered calamari, branzino and pad thai. Their pad thai is one of the best ones I've ever had. Very flavorful with the sweetness and saltiness perfectly balanced. The branzino is fried to perfection and the salad that came with is absolutely umami! Just a bit more salty than I prefer but I do t like too much salt in my food. Superb customer service. Nuni was so friendly, knowledgeable and happy to place our order. AMAZING! I'm sure this is new, but please show up. Food was delicious and they're so warm and welcoming with their service. Such a chill vibe. Literally everything I ordered was so flavorful. Khao poon with duck had such a flavorful coconut curry broth, topped with crispy and tender duck. Chicken satay so much flavor marinated in a yellow curry along side with the peanut dip. Even without the dip it was good! Also the beef soup was rich and super flavorful! Ask for the homemade chili sauces to pair with the soups! Dessert was mango sticky rice and fried banana with ice cream. Can't go wrong with either or! My favorite was the mango, I was in town to visit. But if I lived here I would honestly have lunch or dinner here every week! Definitely recommend checking them out if you haven't! And if you have, SPREAD THE WORD! Until I tried Coconut, I was like a lost puppy, just bouncing back and forth between Sukhothai and Star of Siam, never really getting what I fully wanted and feeling somewhat empty, but keeping a good attitude. All of the ladies there are friendly and service is swift and thoughtful. They have a great lunch special, similar to others in the area. Entree item + Rice + appetizer + Soup for under 20 bone dawgs. The apex of where flavor and value meet. On this day, I had chicken green curry w/brown rice and some chicken satay make my belly smile. The curry here has some nice depth and layers of flavor and I was scraping till there was no rice left. My buddy and I came here earlier in the week and got the Khao Soi soup w/braised beef and was consumed by a heavenly aromatic broth that I would be happy swimming in until my end of days. All of the flavors, all of the satisfaction. The movie I tried to make it through didn't have a chance after this Grandmother's hug in a bowl. Tried coconut for the first time yesterday, heard many good things about it. Nice new, clean and welcoming atmosphere. Great mural and decor. The food was very good and the service as well. The prices were a bit higher than some places, but the specials which really weren't much different than most of their dishes were priced several dollars higher just because they were on the specialist list. My biggest beef was three dollars for white rice and four dollars for brown rice. Brown rice doesn't cost anymore and rice is really pretty cheap anyway, about a buck a pound. Just add a buck or two on the price of the meal and include the rice! Not sure if I will go back. I hate getting nickeled and dimed. And! $12 for spring rolls. Total rip off. read more

My husband and I were very disappointed at the size and price of our meal. We ordered the Tom Kha soup- pot size. $19 plus an extra $6 because we ordered prawns instead of meat or tofu. With tax and tip with was over$30. What we got for that was a 3/4 filled quart size portion. My husband tried to ask about the lack of a full container when he picked it up and the lady ignored him and picked up the phone to answer it. I'm fussy about Thai food. I realize that most Thai restaurants don't have actual Thai people working there. I was hungry for something that would make me feel better while recovering from whatever bug is clogging heads around town, so took a shot at Thai as a recovery meal. Wasn't expecting to taste much (being sick) but was very happy with my meal. The Tom Ka (Gai .... I ordered with Chicken) was very tasty and generous. Filled with ingredients and had a special taste almost like the hint of butter (waitress said that it was not butter, but wouldn't share either} that provided a lingering satisfaction to each spoonful. I ordered the Duck Curry and it was delicious as well. It was prepared with a multitude of ingredients that provided a concert of flavor for this dish. Yum. The restaurant is in a nicely decorated spot in the Claire street Strip mall....what a find. It is a bit more expensive that most, but it is clearly an investment in the depth of each dish. I'll be back as soon as I am back in the area, even if not with a stuffed head that needed clearing. read more

This is my favorite Thai restaurants in Santa Cruz County. I've been about six times now, and every visit has been fantastic. They offer a great lunch special at an excellent price--you get soup, an appetizer, and a main dish for around $20. My go to is the Yellow Curry. I tried the Fishcakes app for the first time today and I loved them. Also the coconut sou- Tom Kha was so flavorful. The restaurant is super clean, modern, and clearly cared for. You can tell a lot of thought and love goes into everything here. First time ordering Saturday night through Door Dash. I noticed higher than normal prices but decided to go for it anyway with the positive reviews. We ordered Fresh Spring Rolls - a okay, nothing spectactular but not bad. Ordered Tom Yum - and was good, red curry which was good but WAY TOO MANY BAMBOO SHOOTS and not enough chicken. The biggest complaint was the Pad See-Ew which appeared to have a cooking error with a big DUMP of hot red chili flakes all grouped into one spot, stuck in a clump of noodles. I was able to get a partial refund but felt I shouldn't have been charged for this error, practically making the dish inedible. Dinner for 2 with these entrees truly should not be $103.22 but that was the total. Because the food had some redeeming flavor, I may opt to try again but only in dining. We were super disappointed. It was delicious. Pad see ew was very good and had so much veggies. Yum! The only thing that could be improved was the pad Thai. So excited to find an authentic Thai restaurant in Capitola. I find it rare for a Thai restaurant to use Thai Basil in their dishes as opposed to regular Italian sweet basil. Spring Rolls and accpmpanying sauces were excellent bu should have been served as an appetizer, but after a VERY LONG were brought with our meals. Pad Thai noodles were delicious, except barely warm ! The add-on chicken in my dish was very tough and tasteless. Not to mentionhow very little of it was there! Extra charge for said chicken. The worst Thai Food we have had. I ordered a pot of Tum Kai soup that was so sour it was inedible. I told the hostess and she added more coconut milk which did not help. The price was crazy. My soup, an egg roll, small bowl of curry, and two drinks came to $77.51 BEORE tip. With 18% tip it came to $91.46. FOR LUNCH! Unacceptable. read more

The weakest dish was the yellow chicken curry. The chicken was bland, although the potatoes in it were pretty good. Definitely not their strongest dish. We wanted to try out the newly opened Coconut Thai restaurant in Capitola with our teenage kids. We had heard the food was good. We ordered our usual (papaya salad, roti bread, tom Kai soup with chicken, Thai fried rice with chicken, yellow curry with chicken, sweet sticky rice & mango, Thai ice tea, lychee ice tea, and Singha beer. Normally we also order Pad Thai when we go out to eat Thai, but we already had plenty. We'll definitely order it next time because all of the food and drinks were AMAZING!!! The service was equally great. We met Kai the co-owner with the chef. Turned out both used to be part of another Thai restaurant in town before opening their own. They have vested interest in ensuring quality food, service, cleanliness of their restaurant. We felt they accomplished quality control for sure. So we placed an order online for 1 green curry, 1 red curry, and 1 pad thai. requested mild spice. It was mentioned on the menu that the green curry included eggplant, and since a couple people in our group dislike it we requested that they not include it. Of course we needed some rice to go with the curry dishes so we ordered 2 sides of brown rice. The rice was more like a serving for one person-- so small and chincy. They included eggplant in the curry despite the request to leave out. Overall it the food tasted pretty good but I was unhappy with how stingy they were with something like rice. Also the eggplant screw up gave additional reason to not go back again. read more

OMG. We stopped there for soup last week and it was delicious so we ordered take out last night to enjoy while watching the Knicks game. I don't know what happened between last week and this week but the food we got was awful. Inedible. We ordered combination fried rice that looked and tasted like it had been cooked last week. It was basically just rice. We found no meat or vegetables in it. We also had a garlic sauce & vegetables. The vegetables had no crisp and there was no garlic sauce. The pad Thai was slightly better tasting but the noodles were stuck together as though they'd been sitting for a while. What a disappointment. I was expecting a delicious dinner.
